One of the challenges that probation and parole officers face is the negative portrayal of their jobs. Community supervision sentences are often seen as light or easy on the offender, and many communities hold pessimistic attitudes towards rehabilitation.  Further, often times, parole and probation officers are faulted/blamed when offenders reoffend, especially those high risk offenders. For this assignment, find a newspaper article or news video clip that shows the negative attitudes shown towards community corrections, probation, and parole. Compose a 2-3 paragraph essay (minimum 500 words) describing your source and explaining how community corrections is portrayed negatively. In the essay you will discuss the impact of this portrayal on community corrections agencies and/or officers (i.e. stress, addiction, suicide). Post your news article or video to BlackBoard for Week 10 Discussion and sum up your essay.  Include what things can professionals do to help combat this negative image as well as help improve self-care of probation/parole officers.
