Dental Technology student Year 3
Question 1
Using the case study on the following page, classify the case using Kennedy’s Classification system. Then, provide a drawing/diagram of the design. Finally, in a written discussion, justify your design and choice of components explaining the rationale behind your decisions linking to recognised theory; consider the patient’s concerns wherever possible within the design.
• Assume the remaining natural teeth are stable and there is no unusual alveolar ridge resorption.
•Use the pictures of the arches for drawing and designing the cases.
• You have been provided with an additional document/file containing the picture of the arches for this case.
• You may print the picture of the arches for this case, draw on them and then take a photo to upload with your submission.
• Alternatively draw directly on to the digital file of the arches using software such as paint, adobe photoshop, etc. and then submit this annotated file.
• If you prefer you could use www.sharplingrpddesign.com to create the designs.
• Your designs can be uploaded separately with your submission, or the file/ picture of your designs can be embedded in the document with your design justification.
The patient is a healthy 60 –year–old male who is currently wearing an acrylic denture with no clasps. He has been missing the upper 15–23 for six years. The existing acrylic partial denture has suffered repeated fracture in recent years. He dislikes the fact that he has full palatal coverage as it can sometimes affect his taste and speech. He is conscious about metal showing in his smile line. Classify the case using Kennedy’s classification system, then propose a suitable framework design justifying your choice of design and components.

Question 2
Discuss the variations in how to set denture teeth for complete/complete dentures in a Class 1, Class 2 and Class 3 jaw relationship. Focus should be made to the how this achieves a balanced occlusal scheme and why this is important.
Question 3
Evaluate the different methods for processing acrylic dentures. Focussing on conventional packing techniques, microwavable, injection moulding and pourable techniques
