Prepare short reports that will be due before the next class. Answer the following question: where is the next center of the art market and why?

The next global centre of art

Students prepare short reports (between 3,000 and 4,000 characters, excluding spaces, i.e. roughly 1 page) that will be due before the next class. This assignment deals with the historical development of the art market. In detail, students are asked to answer the following question: where is the next center of the art market and why?

Grades are based on;

  • (1) formal aspects,
  • (2) contextual aspects, and
  • (3) the structure of the work.

Identify at least four sources for information about your topic. These can include primary sources, secondary sources, or tertiary sources; you must include at least two secondary sources.

Writing Assignment. Annotated Bibiliography

Identify at least four sources for information about your topic. These can include primary sources (Links to an external site.), secondary sources (Links to an external site.), or tertiary sources (Links to an external site.); you must include at least two secondary sources.

You can use either online or hard copies for all those types, but you must be able to find the author, the publisher, and the date which the source was published.

Write at least two paragraphs on each source. Though there are various ways of going about creating an annotated bibliography, for every source, you should include a summary of the contents, the main theses of the source, and what the information will contribute to your research.

In addition to that information, for each source you should evaluate the authority or background of the author, comment on the intended audience, and compare or contrast it with another you included in the bibliography.

Identify the work with culture or artist, title, and date. Describe what the work looks like. Discuss/describe the style of the work. Discuss the context of the work, explaining and describing the culture at time the work was made.

Discussion board on context

For this Discussion, select a work of art or architecture of your choice. This can be from any period, any culture, any medium.

There are two parts to this Discussion:

Part I–Provide the following about the work:

Identify the work with culture or artist, title, and date.

Describe what the work looks like.

Discuss/describe the style of the work.

Discuss the context of the work, explaining and describing the culture at time the work was made.

The above aspects will necessitate research. For the research in the bullet points above, you must use academic sources–which means you will need proper citations (remember, proper citations include end notes and bibliography). You should have at least 300 words for this part.

Part II–Meaning/Message, and Assessment

Identify what you think is the original message or meaning of the work.

Analyze and assess the work within the context of the information you researched. This part does not require research–you need to do this part on your own. (You won’t be graded on how “correct” you are, just how well you articulate your argument) Answer the following questions:

Where in the work, specifically, can you see the message and meaning? (analysis)

How do you think the work relates to the context of the time ? (analysis)

Is the work successful in communicating the message? (assessment)

Create a fractal art image using knowledge gained from the course content. When developing a fractal image, students may create any type of fractal art, including Mandelbrot Sets, Julia Sets, fractal landscapes, or nature pictures made of self-replicating fractals.

Fractal Art

For Project 2, students will create a fractal art image using knowledge gained from the course content. When developing a fractal image, students may create any type of fractal art, including Mandelbrot Sets, Julia Sets, fractal landscapes, or nature pictures made of self-replicating fractals.

When developing your fractal image, you may create any type of fractal art, including Mandelbrot Sets, Julia Sets, fractal landscapes, or nature pictures made of self-replicating fractals. The option is yours. Be creative! Be sure to include the following elements in your submission:
1) An explanation of the mathematical algorithms, values, and software utilized to generate the fractal
2) Saint Leo color scheme, logos, or landscape

In addition, any comments or recommendations on this project for future students are greatly appreciated.

You will post this project to the Project 2 Discussion Board Since you are creating this image, you will own the copyright for the image you create. Digital watermarks on the image are acceptable (this allows evaluation versions of several programs to avoid purchase). Be sure to review the rubric for this project before submission. Once submitted, please vote for your favorite fractal using the discussion tool.

Discuss the format era §cro how it is viewed, and the skills needed by the artist. How do these characteristics of scroll paintings differ from other kinds of painting you have studied?

”Rain off and on”  assignment

Use this time to reflect on the weekly studies and connect to them in a deeper way. I’m interested in what you think, not what someone with a fancy degree thinks. It’s great to seek out sources, just make sure they’re cited and you’re summarizing in your own words (copy + paste = plagiarism). Yes, even if a few adjectives or nouns were altered.
Install the free version of Grammarly for help with writing skills and editing.

This assignment section is worth 25% of the final grade. This assignment becomes the text you post for the Discussion Response thread. Answer fully using 200-500 words (include word count). The available questions change based on our studies for the week.

Read sections 1.3.1 Historic Development of the Idea of Art and 1.8 Key Concepts from Unit 1 and reference these when describing images. In your paper, briefly describe each of the five definitions of art from Unit 1,

“Defining Art – Past and Present”

This assignment reinforces the concepts from Discussion #1 to build on a more comprehensive approach to understanding the definitions of art. This is an important activity that enables you to research a written concept (the definitions of art), visualize this concept (find an artwork), and then present your findings in a professional manner (written paper).

Task:
1. Read sections 1.3.1 Historic Development of the Idea of Art and 1.8 Key Concepts from Unit 1 and reference these when describing images.
2. Draft a paper in MLA format with a minimum of 500 words and 5 inserted images.
3. In your paper, briefly describe each of the five definitions of art from Unit 1 (Mimesis, Communication, Significant Form, Artworld/Institutional, Mind into the World). Indicate a strength and a weakness of each definition.
4. Using the Definitions of Art: Definitions and Examples page as a starting point, research other artists and artworks to use for your visual examples. You may use artists from the page suggested, but don’t use the specific artworks mentioned as your examples.
5. Give a brief biography of each artist and a description (title, date, medium) of the artwork you present, as well as an explanation of how the artwork meets the criteria for each definition of art.
6. Cite your sources and include a Works Cited/Bibliography page in MLA format.
7. Save your paper as a PDF and submit it to the assignment folder by the deadline.
Use the Purdue Owl site and this Sample MLA paper to assist you with formatting. Also reference this link for guidance in how to insert images in MLA formatting.

Wikipedia, Dictionaries, and Encyclopedias are considered open source or collective edited sources and should NOT be used in your paper. Use signed sources from named authors. Proofread your paper carefully at least twice before you submit, correcting any errors in spelling, grammar or syntax and revising where your writing is unclear or needs further explanation.
For best results, leave enough time to submit your paper to the “Free Tutoring” link for feedback before the deadline.
File submissions: Submit your file as a PDF file.

Criteria on which you will be graded for both options:
• Your photo essay or paper is original, clearly written, and covers the elements listed above. Plagiarism will not be tolerated.
• Your accurate use of Key Terms and definitions from the text.
• The depth of your research and your sources listed (no Wikipedia, encyclopedias, or dictionaries – museums will have good information and many artists will have their own websites).
• Your thoughtful/insightful analysis of either the images you photographed or the artworks you used as definition examples.
• Your photo essay or paper meets the minimum slide/word/image count and any MLA format requirements.

This activity may use a different grading rubric than what was used in past activities. Be sure to check the grading rubric before starting.
