Explore what Lorenzo was doing when he was commissioning art, where did Lorenzo display the art and what role the those works of art play.

The essay question is “with reference to one specific family member and a work/works commissioned by them, discuss the importance of the Medici family as renaissance patrons.”
The chosen member is Lorenzo the magnificent. The essay can have some sort of an introduction which refers to the question itself. Then it can have a short 200 word paragraph on who the Medici family were, why they’re famous and a bit on what was Lorenzo’s place within the family.
The main bit of the essay can focus on two works of art that Lorenzo commissioned and why did he commission them? Did he want to show the prominence of Florence, show his own status or promote an idea?
The essay can also explore what Lorenzo was doing when he was commissioning art, where did Lorenzo display the art and what role the those works of art play.
All of this should lead to certain conclusions and the essay should have a good number of references and should include illustrations where possible either among the text or after it but before the bibliography. Illustrations should be properly numbered and captioned a. Artists name; b. Title of work; c. The medium; d. The date if known; e. It’s present location; f. Source of the image

Place the Pompeii statue Venus in a Bikini in functional, cultural, historical, ideological, context.

A couple of pages in which you place the Pompeii statue Venus in a Bikini in functional, cultural, historical, ideological, context. Identify a conceptual theme important for understanding both objects

Each image is attached. Please compare pic1 and pic2, pic3 and pic4, pic5 and pic6, pic7 and pic8, respectively

For each pair of objects, write a short essay in which you
• identify a conceptual theme important for understanding both objects
• compare and contrast how the objects engage with that theme
• support your claims by using formal analysis, ideas from course
lectures, and specific readings when applicable
• use appropriate art-historical terms and concepts whenever possible
• move back and forth between the objects rather than describing each
separately.
Consider the images with as artistic statements. Probably it would start with a list of formal qualities, then discuss what kind of meaning those formal qualities are producing given the context. So if you started talking about softness in the context of the older image, what intention could the artist have had or what meaning does the softness create for the viewer? Start there and then introduce more elements to elaborate on the meaning of the work as you make your comparison.
Each comparison should be independent. In other words, write four separate essay.
There is no need to separate paragraphs. Introduction and conclusion are not important. It is preferable that one comparison is about 200 words.

How did the gallery adapt the exhibition for the pandemic (if applicable)?

Art Review/Art in the time of COVID-19
**NOTE: I have picked the exhibit entitled “Ministry of Truth: 1984/2020” and the artwork entitled “The End Hate Doors” by V.L. Cox. This work can be located in this URL: https://artatatimelikethis.com/ministry-of-truth-1984/2020

Your assignment is to visit an exhibition of contemporary art online OR in-person and to write a review of that exhibition. A review has two important functions: 1) it allows readers to become more familiar with the exhibition in question and 2) it provides a critical evaluation of the exhibition.

As I discussed in a forum post last week, the contemporary art scene has been forced to adapt its programming in the wake of the pandemic — either by reopening with different protocol, or by pivoting to online programming. You will consider how successfully the gallery you visit (in person OR online) has adapted their programming to meet their audience’s needs (that’s you!) during the pandemic.

For more background, read the excerpt provided from Sylvan Barnet’s A Short Guide to Writing About Art. You’ll find it posted to Moodle.

Select one of the galleries or online exhibitions listed on Moodle (or another gallery, if you prefer), and pick ONE exhibition at that gallery to review. The exhibition MUST focus on contemporary art. Some galleries (such as Esker Foundation or the SAAG) will have multiple exhibitions on at once. This assignment will be much more manageable if you pick ONE exhibition to focus on.

Try to spend a considerable amount of time with the exhibition – you want to have a good grasp of the exhibition, its overall theme, and the artist’s chosen materials and methods before you leave the gallery. Be sure to locate any brochures or pamphlets about the exhibition to take with you before you leave. The same applies to online viewing rooms.

Draft your review as a word document and then upload it to Moodle.

If you consult, quote, or paraphrase any external sources for this assignment, you must cite them in a recognized academic format (MLA, Chicago, etc).

Your review should contain the following:

1. Introduction & background. (1 paragraph) Assume that your reader has not seen the exhibition that you are reviewing and provide some useful context.

a. What exhibition are you reviewing? Who is the artist? Who is the curator?

b. What gallery are you visiting (in person or online)?

c. Your introduction should also provide readers a sense of your overall thesis or argument regarding the exhibition.

2. Description. Basically you need to answer the question: What are you looking at? Begin with a basic overview and then move on to more detail. (2-3 paragraphs)

a. What is the exhibition about? What is its overall theme?

b. What materials and methods does the artist use? Painting? Sculpture? Textile?

3. Analysis & Evaluation. (3-4 paragraphs) Analyze how the exhibition comes together, and evaluate if it was successful or not.

a. What were the exhibition’s strengths, if any? What were its weaknesses, if any? To address this big question, you may wish to consider the following:

i. Was the exhibition’s theme successfully communicated? Why or why not? What works? What falls through the cracks?

ii. How do the artist’s chosen materials and methods impact how you read the work?

b. How did the gallery adapt the exhibition for the pandemic (if applicable)? If you are visiting an online exhibition, does it translate successfully to an online format?

4. Conclusion. (1 paragraph) Summarize what you have written above – revisit your thesis from your 1st paragraph.

Using the internet, explore how modern science has been used to make or understand one of your favorite artworks.

-Using the internet, explore how modern science has been used to make or understand one of your favorite artworks. You may want to consider architectural practices utilizing green technology: restoration of artworks or the use of technology to comprehend an artist’s working methods.
-include pictures the art works you chose to write about; about 2 artworks
-can be written in first person

Why did you choose this image?  Is it memorable or unremarkable?

Your fourth essay will be a 2-4-page image analysis.  Choose an image that you’ve seen in a magazine, in a newspaper, on a website, or elsewhere.  What is this image saying to you?  Along with summarizing it and its background, you may want to focus on some of the following: Why did you choose this image?  Is it memorable or unremarkable?  Does it facilitate learning or foster misconceptions?  Is it trying to get you, as the viewer, to take some sort of action?  What does the image say about our society?  You may review the tips on the handout as well as ideas in the Literary Analyses chapter for further ideas.

For this essay, you will need to attach a photocopy of the image to your paper, and you must cite both the image and any other research you may do.  As always, please double-space your work and type it in 12-point font, and include your name, the date, the assignment, the class name and time, and your title at the top of the essay.

Conduct in-depth research and present a pre-recorded or live audio-visual presentation on the Armenian.

This assignment is consist of two parts. PART: A, Power Point PRESENTATION about 200-400 words length and PART: B, Power Point PRESENTATION SCRIPT of 1500 word/ length count.his assessment is aimed at developing your independent research skills across a range of different source types, and at developing a more geo-politically grounded exploration of genocide. As such it moves forward (while still drawing insights) from the foundational conceptual/theoretical issues focused to explore a geo-politically grounded case study in-depth.
Student will conduct in-depth research and present a pre-recorded or live audio-visual presentation on the Armenian. You will need to research and understand the social and political conditions that led to this genocide, and present an argument about the causes, consequences, and implications of this genocide. What is important to understand about it? Are there causes and consequences that have not been fully understood? What can we learn from this example about prevention?
Student must choose a focus/angle to their case study. This is to ensure depth and analysis rather than breadth and description. For example, you may wish to focus on how current definitions of genocide have not been able to fully account for aspects of this genocide that are significant for understanding and addressing it, or on questions of justice or community cohesion following the genocide and how it both reflects and reinforces the politics of genocide. This focus should crystallise into a key thesis/argument about the genocide case study, which the student will be presented as part of the presentation.
• Make sure you have a focus and argument that is based on research (i.e. first do the research and then decide what to focus on and your argument)
