Devise and develop a 10-minute recorded, narrated presentation on your design idea. Based upon your pitch, prepare a written justification of the design concept.

Design for hospitality and tourism

Overview

You are required to prepare a narrated presentation (with your narration written in the notes) and report on a design concept of your choice. The concept should be on a hospitality or tourism sectoral element.

The following list of sectoral elements is indicative not prescriptive:

●       Hotel Bedroom and Bathroom

●       Hotel Lobby and Reception

●       Restaurant / Dining Space

●       Bar

●       Visitor Attraction (of your choice)

●       Event Space / Venue

As part of your pitch and report you must prepare a mood board that includes samples and elements of your design choice. You should include a 2 dimensional plan of your design which should outline where the various elements of your design are placed.  You are not expected to fully cost your design; however, you will work towards a theoretical spend that is justified by the business type and target customer (for example, star rating, niche sector or average spend).

Assessment Component 1 – The recorded, narrated presentation

Devise and develop a 10-minute recorded, narrated presentation on your design idea. Your presentation should include the following:

  • An electronic 2-dimensional plan of the proposed design
  • A digital mood board that demonstrates the design elements and should cover the following
  • outline of the business – including customer type and spend
  • explanation of the concept
  • justification of the design elements
  • justification of the indicative spend based upon the business type and customer spend

Assessment Component 2 – The Report

Based upon your pitch, you will prepare a written justification of the design concept. The report will contain academic theory that you have used to justify your approach and further detail on the expenditure with detailed reference made to the costs and the envisaged spend.

The report has a 2000 word limit (not including Executive Summary, contents page or reference list).  As with all assignments, the report will be fully referenced.

The report should follow a standard report format and should include two appendices, being:

  • appendix 1 – Design Plan
  • appendix 2 – Mood Board (in electronic form)

Originality of the Work

The work presented in this assignment must be original and NOT have been submitted for previously assessed work. This is an individual assignment and, as such, syndicated work is NOT acceptable. In the context of this assignment, syndicated work refers to two or more students submitting work which is so alike in ideas, content, wording and/or structure that it goes beyond what might have been a coincidence.

An actionable recommendation and the justification for the selected course of action

Assume the role of a marketing consultant and write your case analysis in memorandum format. Assume the reader is familiar with the case, and present case information only when it is needed to support a line of reasoning you are developing. The analysis is expected to reflect course concepts. Case paper should be no more than 4 pages typed, double spaced, plus any optional appendices. Exhibits should back up your conclusions and the key points about them should be articulated within the memorandum.

2. Evaluate Hunley’s competitive advantages and market position. Which market segment(s) should it prioritize? How and why?
3a. Should Hunley make and sell the Grand Bassarra (GB) Titaluk River fly rod? Why? Why not?

3b. Outline a high-level marketing plan. Address the following points: Is $800 the appropriate retail price for the GB? What type of marketing communications will be required? Should Hunley move its media to different publications, as suggested in the case? What should Hunley spend for the different categories of advertising? Why? Should it develop different sets of ads for these new products if it introduces them? What support should be given to retailers? Should fly shops have an exclusive?

4a. Should Hunley make and sell a fly rod to Walmart? Why? Why not? If Hunley sells to Walmart, what high-level marketing plan would you recommend?

5. What other options might Hunley pursue for sales and profit growth?

6. Might a new entrant be more successful with this technology? Why?

Use the Case Paper Template attached to write the paper.

Evaluate techniques from other fields of research such as human resource management. Create a certain framework that can deal with quantifying human aspects and introducing them into theoretical project management problems.

Quantifying human aspects of Project Management

The main focus will be on how to quantify the less-quantifiable human aspects of Project Management. To do this you will need to evaluate techniques from other fields of research such as human resource management. The final goal would be to create a certain framework that can deal with quantifying human aspects and introducing them into theoretical project management problems.
The objective would be to make a sort of framework or something similar that could help convert real-life case studies into numbers. Currently, this is quite difficult because for a case study about multi-skilled project management there is information about activity details and the number of resources available. However, there is almost never data available of, among other things, what skills each resource can perform (categorical skills) and also how proficient they are at each skill (hierarchical skills). In the field of human resource management there are some standardised techniques available that can quantify aspects that deal with people.

In summary, the goal is to research the human resource management literature for existing techniques that might already quantify this kind of info. And otherwise, develop an own quantifying system.

Explain the main purposes of your study and list out the key objectives that you want to achieve with your study, e.g., serious reflection on your career journey, attempt to theorise about your managerial experiences, explore possible solutions to key managerial issue(s) that you are facing. State which model(s) your paper will anchor on and explain why it is relevant and useful to support your study. List out a few journal papers, books, website materials that you will review and cite in your paper in APA referencing format.

Research Paper Proposal

Title –Impact of Work-From-Home Human Resource Practices on the Performance of academic staff in online teaching: case study of a higher education institution in UK during COVID-19

Research Paper Structural Guide

  1. Area of interest – it is about the scope of your study, especially the area that your study will be focusing on, e.g., level of management (top, senior, middle, frontline or organisation-wide), level of strategy (corporate, business/competitive, or functional/departmental strategy), individual or group.
  2. Objectives – explain the main purposes of your study and list out the key objectives that you want to achieve with your study, e.g., serious reflection on your career journey, attempt to theorise about your managerial experiences, explore possible solutions to key managerial issue(s) that you are facing.
  3. Research questions – your questions should be developed to address your study objectives. These questions should guide your study. For example, reflection on your career journey is one of your study objectives, you may reflect on the process and outcomes of a mega project that you had experienced or observed; why the project was failed or succeeded and what key lessons you can draw on from your reflection. Keep yourself to be open-minded and remain objective. Refrain from falling into self-fulling prophecy trap – setting research questions to confirm your belief.
  4. Significance of the issues to be explored in the paper – argue why the issues of your paper are worth researching, highlight possible contributions of your study to managerial practice and management theory advancement.
  5. Key words – state the key subject terms that you will use it for online library search for relevant literature and if other want to locate your paper they can find it with your assigned key subject words. For example, motivation, transformation leadership, organisation culture, business model, core competence, etc.
  6. Background – describe the context within which your case is situated. It may involve the organisation you involved, its business(s) & industry, key protagonists/characters, project(s) engaged, incident(s), etc. – any facts related to your study.  You as a direct observer or actor might have a clear picture about the whole scenario, you need to describe it to the extent that the readers can have a common understanding about the scenario as a starting point.
  7. Case body – having drawn a clear overview of your case with the background section, with the same purpose – creating a common understanding about the insider story for your readers. If your study is to theorise with 3-H framework, you need to briefly describe the Heart, Head and Hand issues. Both background and case body should be factual rather than analytical based. You only do your analysis in discussion section.
  8. Theory/Model – state which model(s) your paper will anchor on and explain why it is relevant and useful to support your study. List out a few journal papers, books, website materials that you will review and cite in your paper in APA referencing format.
  9. Methodology – given the time constraint, it’s unlikely that you will conduct survey to collect data for your study. Often, students will adopt case research coupled with some interviews, if appropriate.
  10. Expected deliverables – what will be the outcome or ‘product’ of your study? For professional doctoral studies, the deliverables must be having a high level of academic rigour and sound practical value.
