Evaluate potential challenges (current and predicted) faced by Debenhams and recommend actions that Debenhams could implement to secure its survival.

According to Katherine Bahamonde Monasebian, chief digital and technology officer
at Barneys, “It’s easy to say Amazon killed department stores, millennials killed
department stores, but it’s actually a confluence of a lot of things.” (BOF – April
2019). “For way too long, bricks-and-mortar retailers have allowed their stores to be
warehouses full of product with a till at the door and poor service,” says Sergio
Bucher, ex chief executive of Debenhams (Drapers Sept 2018).
Debenhams is a UK department store who has seen turbulent times in recent years.
The restrictions imposed by the UK government amid the Covid-19 outbreak pushed
Debenhams to file a notice to appoint a “light touch” administration and furlough
most of their 22,000 employees. Once the restrictions were lifted, Debenhams
resumed trading in around 90 stores in England on 15 June, with a remaining 30 UK
stores planned to open at a later date. Drapers 28th May 2020. “In the context of a
retail industry undergoing profound change, the management team is working on the
future shape of the group, with a view to seeking an exit from administration as a
going concern. With a leaner and more flexible operating model, Debenhams will
have the ability to adapt to what are likely to be fundamental shifts in the future
trading environment.”
The 3,000-word report should outline your research findings and recommend
strategic actions that Debenhams should have taken in the past and could take in
the future to secure business success and their survival. Drawing on lessons learnt
in completing the simulated game and on your knowledge of Debenhams strategy
past and present, evaluate actions taken by Debenhams in an attempt to survive as
a business. Draw comparison from competing department stores (both physical and
digital) and analyse the actions they have taken to secure their future. In appraising
Debenhams strategy, review the department store model and evaluate the future of
this fashion retail business model.

Critically analyse the utility and potential negative consequences of socialisation and behaviour modification techniques.

Assignment question Leadership for Transformational Change
Critically analyse the utility and potential negative consequences of socialisation and behaviour modification techniques. How ethical is it for the transformational manager to utilise these techniques?
The following pointers will help you develop and complete your assignment:
A high-level of critical analysis i.e. a greater depth of understanding of the subject, is required for MBA than at undergraduate level.
It is expected that you will draw on the wider academic literature and apply this via examples to your own organisation.
The question asks you to differentiate between socialisation and behaviour modification therefore, for example, you might examine:
– at what stage(s) when employing staff you would utilise these techniques
– who you would apply them to
– what the key differences between these two techniques are
– what the aims/goals of using them are
– how, in detail, you would apply them
– how you would provide evidence for success
– the potential downsides of using these along with any evidence
– whether the use of these techniques is ethical.
All sources should be referenced as per instruction in the Introduction to this module.
The key to a good assignment is planning – if you plan your assignment appropriately, the execution becomes relatively straightforward.
The first stage of planning is deciding what the question is actually asking you to do. The accompanying notes should enable you to understand exactly what is required, making sure that you answer all parts of the question.
Once you have planned out the different elements of the assignment, review the relevant academic literature – simply rehashing the course material or Buchanan and Huczynski is not enough at this level.
The essay should have a strong narrative thread with clear exposition of the academic literature, with clear examples to illustrate your points.
You are strongly advised to read the MBA Standard Rubric that refers to these key points:
Understanding, theory and practice
Content/theory/models/frameworks
Reading, scholarship
Evaluation and analysis
Critical thought and complexity
Conclusions and originality
Written expression
Structure and presentation
Referencing
Length (4,000 words).
Ensure all of these elements are covered in your assignment

Identify the challenges inherent in determining who should be promoted within an organization.

In the United States, assessment processes are often used to determine which individuals have the capability to grow into new, more challenging leadership positions. Based on this week’s readings, discuss the challenge of leadership succession management. Then, referencing your Scott and Reynolds (2010) textbook, required readings, and at least one additional academic sources, outline an approach for ensuring that succession planning makes appropriate use of assessment. In a paper of at least 1750 – 2100 words (or 5 -7 pages) in length  (excluding title, abstract and reference pages), address the following:
Identify the challenges inherent in determining who should be promoted within an organization. What factors need to be considered in identifying potential candidates for leadership positions? Discuss the six fundamentals of using assessment for growth-focused succession planning, as outlined by Paese (2010), identifying the critical aspects of each fundamental. Support your discussion with references to additional academic sources. Identify the different types of assessments that may be appropriate for use in succession planning and briefly describe their purpose. Propose a set of “best practices” for using assessment for succession planning, including quality considerations for assessment processes.

Compare and contrast the positive and negative aspects of employing a MAC, DAC, and RBAC.

Imagine that you are the Information Systems Security Specialist for a medium-sized federal government contractor. The Chief Security Officer (CSO) is worried that the organization’s current methods of access control are no longer sufficient. In order to evaluate the different methods of access control, the CSO requested that you research: mandatory access control (MAC), discretionary access control (DAC), and role-based access control (RBAC). Then, prepare a report addressing positive and negative aspects of each access control method. This information will be presented to the Board of Directors at their next meeting. Further, the CSO would like your help in determining the best access control method for the organization.

Explain in your own words the elements of the following methods of access control:
Mandatory access control (MAC)
Discretionary access control (DAC)
Role-based access control (RBAC)
Compare and contrast the positive and negative aspects of employing a MAC, DAC, and RBAC.
Suggest methods to mitigate the negative aspects for MAC, DAC, and RBAC.
Evaluate the use of MAC, DAC, and RBAC methods in the organization and recommend the best method for the organization. Provide a rationale for your response.
Speculate on the foreseen challenge(s) when the organization applies the method you chose. Suggest a strategy to address such challenge(s).
Use at least three quality resources in this assignment. Note: Wikipedia and similar Websites do not qualify as quality resources.
