Create a letter to a colleague asking that the individual act as a reference. Research the Internet for how to develop a short but effective letter.

Project 1: Create a formal resume that you can use when applying for positions upon completion of the degree program. This resume should reflect your educational and job experiences (estimate your graduation date), hobbies, and personal interests, awards, publications, association affiliations, and interests. Choose (or create) a format that you believe will be viewed as professional, and indicates some of your personality. In the content section, you will find a number of resources you can access that lead you to information regarding resume types and formats, and many of the do’s and don’t’s of resume writing. As one of the learning tasks for this project is for you to hone and showcase your skills at creating a word document of your own design, do not use any of the preformatted resumes provided in Word.

Project 2: Create a letter of introduction, or cover letter, to accompany the resume. This letter will profess an interest in a specific job for which you are interested in being considered for. Use a position to which you feel you may be qualified for and aspire to upon completion of the degree you are in the process of completing. This letter acts as a formal introduction and reflection of your writing skills and, as such, should be created in a formal letter format utilizing Microsoft Word styles. Make sure you access the resources provided in the Contents section that will provide insight into how to create a cover letter or letter of introduction. As with all of the projects you will create in this section, it is important to realize that each document is a reflection of your experience as a professional and your ability to author a professional communication.requesting a reference

Project 3: Create a letter to a colleague asking that the individual act as a reference. Students should research the Internet for how to develop a short but effective letter. This letter should be created in a formal letter format utilizing Microsoft Word styles and include an address, formal body, and salutation at the end.

Project 4: Create a letter thanking the interviewer for being considered for the job upon completion of the interview. This document should highlight the candidate’s interest in the position, primary areas of fit with the responsibilities of the job, and a request for further consideration as a candidate for the job. Utilize Microsoft Word to create a formal letter with an address or letterhead, formal body, and salutation at the end.

Project 5: Create a short (one to two page) instructional document that highlights your skills with using Microsoft Word. Choose two of the following subjects as your focus for this training document (or pick two of your own choosing):

  • (a) how to insert hyperlinks to videos or web pages,
  • (b) how to create tables,
  • (c) how to insert charts,
  • (d) how to insert photos and clip art, or
  • (e) how to insert both a bulleted and a numbered list.

The document should be designed and created in Microsoft word, be self-explanatory to the reader, and have one example for each of the 2 subjects you choose for your instructional document. The instructor should be able to follow your instructions and complete each of the examples you give in your document.

Was there a bias or opinion in the reporting or was it strictly factual? Explain and give specific examples. Were there obvious questions a viewer might have about a story that went unanswered?

Part one

Post your answers (450 an up words)

This week as you are reading in your text about the news, watch a 1/2 hour local newscast, a 1/2 hour national newscast, and a 1/2 hour of cable news. That’s a total of 90 min of news.

Give the name of each newscast, channel, time and date you watched.

Then proceed to answer each of the following questions about each newscast.

  1. Was there a bias or opinion in the reporting or was it strictly factual? Explain and give specific examples.
  2. Were there obvious questions a viewer might have about a story that went unanswered?
  3. Were any stories sensationalized (media hype)?
  4. Did you see any examples of fear tactics being used to entice viewership or scare the viewer unnecessarily? Meaning, the information is not necessarily factual. Think back to the article you read titled “The Media Scares Us and We Like It.”
  5. What newscast did you enjoy most (local, national, or cable)?

Just in case you need help knowing the difference between local/national/cable news: local news is something like NBC 7 San Diego. National news is like CBS World News Tonight. Cable news would include FOX News, MSNBC, CNN etc…

Why is writing as well as reading all the details so important in Leadership and Management? How does this endless task of writing help to improve your skills in research as well as proposal writing, writing memos, disciplinary, and writing reports in accordance with Chapter 12 of your course book? Explain.

Leadership and Management

Create an appropriate communication strategy and plan based on a thorough analysis of project communication needs. Integrate best practices, tools and techniques to identify and mitigate communication barriers.

Contact Center Case Study

Overview and Rationale

In order to demonstrate proficiency with the content in this course and allow you to implement relevant practices in a real-world setting, you are asked to create appropriate status reports based on data about a project. This assignment is a continuation of the Contact Center Case Study.

Program and Course Outcomes

The following learning objectives are addressed through these assignments

LO5: Create an appropriate communication strategy and plan based on a thorough analysis of project communication needs.

LO6: Integrate best practices, tools and techniques to identify and mitigate communication barriers.

LO7 Create a status report evidencing an ability to communicate via various mediums to technical and non-technical audiences.

LO8: Interpret the value of communicating accurate, appropriate, and relevant information to various stakeholder groups.

Essential Components

In this assignment you will review technical information from the Contact Center Case Study and develop two different Status Reports based on the communication plan you developed in Week 3 and 4. Based on the technical data provided (see below), create two different Phase 1 Status Reports to provide to the stakeholders identified and included within your communication plan as:

  • High Power/Low Interest (quadrant 3 – Keep Satisfied)
  • Low Power/High Interest (quadrant 2 – Keep Informed)

There are no guidelines on length, information to include, format etc. for the status reports. Instead, your status reports should demonstrate that you have an understanding of how to take raw technical data, translate it, and then communicate it effectively.

Items to consider when creating your status reports will be an update on the project’s goals, stakeholder expectations on action items, your recommendations, etc.

As part of the case study, we were going to conduct a Phase 1 pilot with the following goals:

  • Conduct a pilot in a specific district for 60 days
  • Categorize all calls as 1st or 2nd level support
  • Analyze call data to determine feasibility of the entire scope of the project
  • Complete pilot by March

Assume Phase 1 is complete and you are provided the technical data in an Excel document that contains the following 3 tabs of technical data:

  • Weekly Call Summary: This shows the overall call volume from each of the support groups, contact center, and emergency support across the four weeks (28 days) the pilot was conducted.
  • Contact Center Calls – Raw Data: This has the raw data from each of the 818 calls received by the contact center
  • CC Calls – Pivot Tables: Theses provide a few of the basic data summaries in a pivot table for those that may not be comfortable using Excel. If you are familiar with creating pivot tables and pivot charts, you are encouraged to look at the raw data in others ways to provide the stakeholders the information you feel they need.

Of the 460 people surveyed, almost 80 percent were female and more than 93 percent were white. How do you think this affected the findings of the study? What are some other limitations you notice?

Answer two of the three questions based on the pdf? About 200 words per question

In 2020, people around the world began wearing face coverings in order to prevent the spread of COVID-19. While evidence shows that face coverings can reduce particle spread and limit virus transmission (Asadi et al. 2020), there is little research on how face coverings affect communication, especially for individuals with hearing loss. Saunders, Jackson and Visram (2021) assess the impact of face coverings on hearing and communication, which in turn can be used to improve the design of face coverings to make them more communication-friendly, and to educate the public on better communication tactics while wearing face coverings.

Study authors recruited 460 adults in the United Kingdom using snowball sampling, primarily through social media channels such as Twitter and Facebook, or through emails. They targeted Facebook groups for hearing loss support in order to oversample adults with hearing loss. Each participant completed a survey about communicating with someone wearing a face covering, or communicating while the participant is wearing a face covering. Participants were asked about a variety of settings and their experiences – how connected they felt to the other person in the conversation, how well they can hear and understand the other person, and how engaged they felt.

The results of the study showed that 60 percent of participants who had worn a face covering when communicating said it caused them to “communicate differently” than if they were not wearing a covering. The study confirmed that face coverings have a bigger impact on communication amongst individuals with hearing loss than those without. Communication issues may cause individuals with hearing loss to experience a myriad of negative emotions, such as “anxiety, isolation, feeling stupid, and losing confidence (Saunders, Jackson and Visram, 2021). Saunders, Jackson and Visram call on “acousticians and industrial designers” to create improved face coverings, and healthcare providers and the general public to utilize important communication strategies when wearing a face covering.

Questions:

  1. The study surveyed 460 members of the general public in the United Kingdom using snowball sampling. The researchers note that “people with hearing loss were intentionally oversampled.” Is including a larger proportion of individuals with hearing loss in this study beneficial to the accuracy of the results, or detrimental?
  2. Of the 460 people surveyed, almost 80 percent were female and more than 93 percent were white. How do you think this affected the findings of the study? What are some other limitations you notice?
  3. Authors of the study note that one of the most difficult settings for individuals with hearing loss to communicate through face coverings is a medical situation. How can medical professionals wearing face coverings use findings from the study to address communication gaps when working with people with hearing loss?

Chapter write-ups: 4-6

To help students review and become familiar with the material, chapter write-ups will be due each week. This assignment has two parts:

  1. The first portion will be a concept that you feel was the most relevant in each chapter.
  2. Explain why you believe that it’s relevant, and then explain how you can/will apply this now to your life or job. The write-up should be a little over a page in content.

Analyze the implications associated with sharing, or not sharing, a vision with constituents in a criminal justice organization context. Explain how communication skills impact communication of a vision in a criminal justice application based context.

Visions for an organization

Kouzes and Posner state that leadership visions for an organization are inadequate if they are not shared with constituents. Communication is a key point of focus in this regard. Decisions pertaining to communication, on many levels, can have significant implications. That pertains, in part, to the manner in which the communication takes place, those receiving the communication, the nature and extent of the communication and the potential impact of the communication.

  1. Interpret what Kouzes and Posner were referring to regarding leadership visions for organizations being inadequate if not shared with constituents.
  2. Analyze the implications associated with sharing, or not sharing, a vision with constituents in a criminal justice organization context.
  3. Explain how communication skills impact communication of a vision in a criminal justice application based context.

3. After reading and thinking about the article “CEOs Using Twitter,” select at least two results from the study that are worthy of discussion. Why did you find the resulting interesting? From your experience, can you confirm or challenge the results?

What are the advantages and disadvantages of the different sources of power supply to the agricultural animal industry? What are the long- and short-term environmental impacts of the different sources of power supply to the animal industry?

Animal Agricultural Power Supply

Agriculture has evolved from an activity accomplished with purely human labor, to a combination of human and animal power, to now an industry reliant on mechanical power.

In your opinion, what has been the cause and effect of this evolution?

What are the advantages and disadvantages of the different sources of power supply to the agricultural animal industry?

What are the long- and short-term environmental impacts of the different sources of power supply to the animal industry?

What are the long- and short-term economic impacts of the different sources of power supply to the animal industry?

When you think about the power needs of today’s agricultural industry, what role do you see for the use of renewable energy?

Can renewable energy provide the quantity and reliability of energy for commercial animal agriculture? (thought prompt: Dairies that use robot milking and rotating parlors, beef feedlots that rely of mechanical means for feeding of animals, etc.)

Imagine you are a doctor and have just diagnosed one of your patients with a terminal illness. How would you present the news to a German American, a Mexican immigrant, and someone from China?

Communication

What is meant by the phrase “communication is rule governed”? Compare some of the different “rules” that govern your communication in the following contexts:

  • (a) A meeting with your professor to discuss grades and a meeting at a social event.
  • (b) Giving your professional opinion to the company president and to a co-worker.
  • (c) Discussing a medical concern with a doctor and with a close friend.

In almost any context, first-time meetings will involve initial conversational talk. The rules governing what are appropriate or inappropriate topics for these interactions vary across cultures. Work with other classmates to compile a list of what would be correct and Editorial review has deemed that any suppressed content does not materially affect the overall learning experience. Cengage Learning reserves the right to remove additional content at any time if subsequent rights restrictions require it, incorrect topics among Euro-Americans (or another culture you are interested in).

In the globalized marketplace, contemporary business leaders must manage a variety of cultural expectations and adapt them to the workplace. What cultural differences of values and behaviors are most important for a manager to be aware of? How could a business manager best handle cultural conflicts?

What are some of the ways that a culture’s attitude toward education can become manifest in the classroom? In the workplace? Identify some of the outcomes of a culture’s overemphasis and underemphasis on education.

Examine you own beliefs about the causes and prevention of disease. Which healthcare perspective do you most identify with? Why? Do you engage in health practices that would be considered a part of one of the other traditions? If so, why?
