If you have observed dysfunctional communication that has negatively impacted the organization’s culture, explain why you think the dysfunctional communication has occurred and make recommendations about how it could be improved. If the communication is largely functional, explain why the communication seems to be effective and suggest how the organization can help ensure that the effective communication continues.

Recognizing dysfunctional communications

The study by Parsons and Urbanski, examined a media company’s communication using two theoretical approaches: structuration theory (Giddens) and grounded theory (Strauss). The researchers used a survey, examined the use of communication technologies, and hosted a focus group. They sought to determine what strategies can be used to reduce dysfunctional communication and sustain a positive organizational culture. The researchers presented their findings and made recommendations about how the media company could improve its communication. At the end of the article, in the Appendices, the researchers shared the questions they asked employees in the survey.

A. Think about a past or present organization you are involved with. This organization could be a workplace or some other kind of organization. Drawing from the insights of the article, describe the communication patterns you have observed. Think about the downward, upward and horizontal communication in this organization. Review the appendices of the article to help you think about the communication that occurs in your organization.

Prepare a draft of Parts A–D of your total rewards analysis

Begin by analyzing qualitative and quantitative data for the current system (as identified in the case study and the provided supplements) that will inform your future recommendations and revisions. Once your analysis has been completed, compare and contrast the provided quantitative data regarding the current benefits and compensation system with external benchmarking data from Medtronic, an organization within the same industry. DIFFICULT CONVERSATION ANALYSIS

ASSIGNMENT TWO
Stage 1
AFTER reading Difficult Conversations…

Identify a difficult conversation/conflict that you have recently experienced. If you are uncomfortable using your own experience you may choose a problematic conflict that someone you know has experienced, or use a TV show or movie.

If you choose the latter – you MUST run it by me – before you leave on break. This should be a conflict that you are familiar with and one that you understand and can write about in
great detail. The conflict you choose may be a group or a private dyadic type of conflict in a work, family, or friendship/intimate relationship context—the choice is yours.

Stage 2
Describe the conflict in detail. This might include the topic, the participants and their relationship, what the major concerns are, where the differences or conflict lies, what people have said and or done, and other details that you believe are important for the reader to know. Be as detailed and explicit as possible. Include actual dialogue (this might be spoken words, text message, email messages, etc). Specific context is HELPFUL. (see my notes on page two of this assignment sheet for further thoughts) My experience shows that this dialogue component is imperative for success – it can be included in the text of the analysis or as an addendum (Do NOT consider this dialogue in the overall length of the analysis).

Updated to reflect the reality of global data and internal data exchange via the World Wide Web.

Summary of the main issue- the 1986 act needs to be updated to reflect the reality of global data and internal data exchange via the World Wide Web. Ethical Implication, Remedies and Solutions

The Electronic Communications Privacy Act (ECPA) 1986 deals with three main issues: (1) the protection of communications while in transfer from sender to receiver; (2) the protection of communications held in electronic storage; and (3) the prohibition of devices from recording dialing, routing, addressing, and signaling information without a search warrant. The ECPA makes it a crime to intercept or obtain electronic communications unless otherwise provided for under law or an exception to ECPA.
