Gulf War Syndrome – A military soldier who used lethal violence in self-defense argued that the trauma of serving in Iraq or Afghanistan caused him to overreact to provocation.

Assess where you would place your officer’s view of the situation on the chart: internal/external, stable/unstable, controllable/uncontrollable. Explain why you choose each piece.

Attribution Theory

Scenario- While working the overnight shift, you return a very poor report to an officer for corrections; the officer states, “I didn’t get any sleep yesterday. They were replacing the carpet in the apartment next to mine.” I’m going to sleep at my parent’s house today, so I will be bettcher at my report writing tomorrow.”

Assess where you would place your officer’s view of the situation on the chart: internal/external, stable/unstable, controllable/uncontrollable. Explain why you choose each piece.

Having made your assessment, how will you motivate your officer?

In your responses to your peers, consider their choice and reasoning as to why their solutions are sound. Did you agree with their conclusions? Discuss why or why not? Did you find research that supported or contradicted their conclusions?

Discuss your answers in a well-developed reply

In your initial post, discuss the prevalence of racial disparity within a specific component of the US correctional system (jails, probation, parole, prisons, death penalty, etc.) by referencing at least one scholarly/academic source. Avoid discussing racial disparity for the US correctional system as a whole as this is far too complicated to attempt to do.

Talk about why you selected the topic you did. After identifying the prevalence of disparity for that component, summarize what the research has concluded as the cause(s) (sentencing policy/practices, implicit bias, structural disadvantage, socioeconomic, etc.) and discuss your personal reaction to this.

Lastly, talk about solutions. What does the research say as being a tangible, measurable, and realistic solution to address the disparity within that specific component of the US correction system? Do you agree or disagree?

Reference your source(s) using APA format to include proper in-text citation and a separate reference section at the conclusion of your initial post. Refer to the Module 01 Overview for more information on proper citation practices.

Two Replies to Others:

In your responses to your peers, consider their choice and reasoning as to why their solutions are sound.

  • Did you agree with their conclusions? Discuss why or why not?
  • Did you find research that supported or contradicted their conclusions?
  • What are some other things they could consider in their original post?

Consider the “3CQ” method to help guide your replies:

  • Compliment- provide positive affirmations for something your peer said in their post.
  • Comment- discuss things you agree/disagree with from their post.
  • Connection- discuss other things not mentioned by your peer that they should consider.

Question- ask a question about something from their post or present a question about the subject for future research.

Consider engaging students who may not have been replied to. You have a role in creating an environment where everyone has a voice and is heard. Replying to their posts validates their voice.
