Do you notice anything about the amount of attention each student receives?

Think about a classroom you are familiar with. Could be your observation setting, could be from a movie, could be your child’s classroom, could be from one of the classrooms you grew up with.
Start with defining the setting. zoom, regular, movie; be specific
1. Tell  about the patterns you see regarding how many times teachers call on students from various sub groups. (gender, ethnicity,)
Do you notice anything about the amount of attention each student receives?
2. What about group representation in the classroom? Does one group (boys, whites, native-English speakers etc.) get more than its fair share of teacher attention. If yes, how do you explain it? If it is justified, why?
3.Read (https://www.edutopia.org/article/how-maslow-bloom-all-day-long?fbclid=IwAR3XmrqA9EXakcBm6Gz3RywOjvyJ2g053JvBozt6Nw0kK6d4p2EgSOyOX6g) What strategies mentioned could you see yourself asking your cooperating teacher if you could try with his/ her class?

Write a brief summary of at least three of the theories explored in the three articles.

Required Readings:

  2. “Why you procrastinate (It has nothing to do with self-control)” by Charlotte Lieberman
  3. “New Ways to Think About Procrastination” by Christy Rotman

Address the following prompts:

  1. Write a brief summary of at least three of the theories explored in the three articles.
  2. Consider an example of the last time you procrastinated on a course assignment or

study session through the lens of the three articles you have read. What can you learn about yourself and what you were feeling/thinking? Knowing what you know now, what could you do differently next time?

  1. Now consider a current assignment that you would be tempted to/are procrastinating on right now. What is one skill or strategy mentioned in the articles that you can try to implement to resist the urge to procrastinate?
  2. To end, consider which theory most resonated with you and how it inspires you to take action and make change.materials provided (video, chapter/article, etc…)

Determine the effectiveness of virtual mentoring in fostering relationships and maintaining positive results while using an online platform.

The purpose of this study is to determine the effectiveness of virtual mentoring in fostering relationships and maintaining positive results while using an online platform. The goal of the study is to determine if online virtual mentoring is as effective as in-person mentoring

The methodology sections contain the following sections:
Research Design: What type of research design will you use? Why will you use this research design?
Participants: Who are your participants? How many? Describe their demographics. How were they chosen? Clearly describe all of this.
Procedure: Provide step by step procedures of how you will conduct your study.
Instrument: Describe the instrument(s) you will be using for your study. Why were these chosen? How do they align with your research questions?
Data Analysis: How will you analyze your data? For qualitative, are you looking for themes? Are you identifying common words? For quantitative, are you using a two-tailed test, one-tailed test, t-test, etc?

2.How will the knowledge you gained in this course help you in your future career or in other future roles (parent, teacher, mentor, etc.)? (.5 pages)

3.Read the scenarios below. Choose ONE of the scenarios to address in this section of your paper. Looking at the theoretical frameworks that you have learned about in this class, select one that resonates with you regarding the scenario description.

Define the chosen theory and then apply the theory to explain what is happening with the adolescent. Multiple theories can be used to explain the scenario, so just select the one that you feel you can most confidently write about. If you would like, feel free to list any questions that you have for the student that would help you understand them better from the perspective of your chosen framework.

2. What goals might you want to focus on supporting?

3. How might you support their development towards the focus goal?

Whats your opinion on if it is ever appropriate to use non -offensive ethnic humor in the classroom.

1. What's your opinion on if it is ever appropriate to use non -offensive ethnic humor in the classroom. (laughter can heal, but it can hurt)
For example, are BuzzFeed's captions insulting? Would you use this in a classroom? There is NO right or wrong answer here– and no intent to be offensive. For sure, your response should probably differentiate between age groups.

Actually, it was pretty funny about having to go to Hebrew School, Chinese School because all the childhood that was me, and I'd complain to my parents that no other minority group had to go to another school after school, and my dad would always say that's not true– the Chinese have Chinese school, and we have Hebrew School.. but was that picture offensive to another group? Let's talk about this and come up with guidelines re humor and how it can HELP and how it can hurt, if to use, WHEN to use.
2. Post an experience you remember from your childhood, or that you witnessed, that made it clear your teacher was not a culturally responsive teacher.
3. Your thoughts on Jane Elliot's experiment and classroom use. (https://www.pbs.org/wgbh/frontline/article/an-unfinished-crusade-an-interview-with-jane-elliott/)
