There is information in this week’s reading on each of the court cases in the textbook (Gargiulo, R. M. (2020). Special Education in Contemporary Society: An introduction to Exceptionality) Ch2. explains the court case : Brown v. Board of Education 1954: ”

“Segregation of students by race ruled unconstitutional; children deprived of equal educational opportunity. Ended “separate but equal” schools for white and black pupils. Used as a precedent for arguing that children with disabilities cannot be excluded from public education.”

^That was the only quote given in this weeks reading.  In addition to information in the reading, find one other source that gives some additional information on the case and include that in your summary (remember to cite your source).

In this assignment, you will have an opportunity to put theory into practice by creating examples of various exercises for use in the classroom. In this Individual Project, you will demonstrate a sound understanding of behaviorism and how instructional strategies can be used to enhance instruction and the overall learning process. Knowing and understanding theory allows us to better understand how people learn, which helps drive the decision-making process regarding instructional design, planning, and delivery. Educational professionals can use these frameworks to make more informed decisions about applying the most effective instructional practices.

Part One

Create an example of an exercise that a teacher might carry out during a 20-minute segment of a 7th-grade social studies class. Complete the following:

Begin by writing a terminal performance objective for the segment. Choose your own topic, issue, or opportunity as the basis of your design. The exercise should clearly call for the students and teacher to work in a behaviorist mode. Both learners and the teacher should be active in their participation during the segment. Create an assessment for the exercise.
After you have described the exercise, how it will be conducted, and any materials that would be associated with it, explain how it fits the characteristics of behaviorism and why you think this exercise and this approach would be appropriate for the class.

Part Two

The exercise should clearly use principles of behaviorism as its theoretical structure, and it should illustrate a behaviorist approach in learning and instruction. The exercise should engage both the learners and the instructor in active participation. Create an assessment for the exercise.
Write an explanation of the exercise to discuss the ways in which it illustrates behaviorism, and discuss which behavioral principles or characteristics are used as the basis for design. Explain how the exercise would be appropriate for the topic, need, or opportunity for which it is intended.

Part Three

Discuss the advantages and limitations of the behaviorism approach, and offer at least 1 way in which limitations can be overcome by the learner.
