GUIDELINES:
Step 1
• Review the components of a family handbook found in Lesson 5.
• Review the requirements of O.Reg.137/15:General for: supervision of volunteers and
students (Section 11), forbidden behavior management practices (Section 48), and
emergency management policies and procedures (Section 68).
Step 2
Create a Family Handbook for the following fictitious centre:
Name: Rainbow Children Early Learning Centre
Services: Full day program for children aged 2 ½ to 5 years of age
Hours of Operation: 7 am. To 6 pm, Monday to Friday. Closed statutory holidays.
Fees: $50/day with a minimum enrollment of 2 days
You can use a variety of software programs to create your handbook, but it must be submitted
as a PDF.
Step 3
Add at title page and references (if applicable) to your handbook.
Step 4
Save your completed assignment to a memory stick and submit/upload it to Blackboard.
EVALUATION CRITERIA:
Professional Presentation (title page, spelling, grammar, punctuation,
clear/concise expression of ideas, proper use of A.P.A style references) /4
Contains all 10 components of a family handbook required by O.Reg.137/15:General /20
Contains additional information about “best practices” /6
(e.g. nutrition, Custody and access, inclusion policy, etc.)
Creativity and attractiveness of handbook /10
Total 40 = Value: 20%
