  • Describe several of your online interaction and examples of relationship building.
  • What pros and cons have you encountered while connecting and interacting virtually?
  • What has virtual communication revealed about your personality and learning preferences?

Explain how you feel about networking online and the building of PLNs? From your perspective, what are the benefits and challenges? What concerns you most about privacy and security?

Using technology to network is a way to build connections in online personal learning communities or PLNs.
• In an original post, explain how you feel about networking online and the building of PLNs?
• From your perspective, what are the benefits and challenges?
• What concerns you most about privacy and security?
Comment on the posts of at least two peers. APA citations are required only in the original response.

Describe the specific ways in which you enact change. What model of counseling (or application of theory) best fits the treatment of the issue, based upon your description of pathology?

Write a 5 to 6-page APA style paper describing your current theory of change (papers that exceed the 6-page limit will be subject to a points deduction). Apart from succinctly describing the nature of change in humans, you will choose a counseling theoretical model that most closely fits with their personal style of counseling and preference. You will also describe why they have chosen that particular model and how it fits with them. This paper will fulfill the Graduate Writing Requirement (GWR). Late submissions subject to course policy. Please answer the following prompts in your paper:

    1. What:  What is the problem that someone would bring to you or that you would be seeing in your counseling practice? What is the pathology of the issue? What are the factors contributing to the development of the problem (i.e. mental, behavioral, emotional, physiological, biological, academic, relational, etc.)? The factors that you choose should be connected closely to the theoretical assumptions for what leads to the dysfunction or issue. Take note that most theories and models for change typically address one primary factor when making change. What are healthy/ unhealthy characteristics of those specific factors chosen (ex. What does an unhealthy relationship look like)? What theory of development best aligns with the pathology or can be used to best explain the pathology?
    2. How:  How do you enact or facilitate change?

Describe the specific ways in which you enact change. What model of counseling (or application of theory) best fits the treatment of the issue, based upon your description of pathology? What interventions, from your model, would you use? Describe how change occurs, don’t just give a list of interventions or describe the interventions. NOTE: must go beyond regular core conditions!

  1. Why:  Describe your rationale for choosing the factors of change you focus on. Include any small or brief personal experiences you have had that have contributed to your selection of a model and factors of change. Include any empirical evidence you have come by to support your theory of change.
  2. Who:  Describe the counselors’ role within your particular model. Describe how the specific model fits your counseling style. Describe how you use yourself in counseling. What personal characteristics of yours do you use in your counseling and how does who you are affect change in your clients?

Constructivist theories regard children as active learners or “little scientists”.
Based on your understanding of constructivism, how would you describe active learning?
• What instruction methods support this approach?
• How does this approach support the developmental needs of young children.

The original post must include information from a professional, scholarly source that is outside the course. Cite the source in APA style (author’s last name, year of publication, page number) within the post, and include a complete bibliographic reference in APA style at the end of the post. Note: A Web site can be cited (with a URL) but does not count as the outside article unless it is clearly an entire Web site that uses peer-review. This permits use of an online scholarly journal, for example, that does not have a print version. But a Web site such as Wikipedia would not qualify because, while edited and vetted (to a degree), it is not a refereed source.

Explain your position on using social media in educational contexts. What is appropriate and inappropriate? How much is too much? Critique the latest research on social presence and best practices for connecting engaging, and interacting online with students.

Content on social media and social presence are woven throughout this course. As a final project, you will design a presentation in a format of your choice on these topics.

You will begin your project by conducting a literature review on the social aspects of online learning, including social media, social presence, and best practices for connecting, engaging, and interacting online with students or colleagues

Research the role of active learning in the design of online courses and learning communities. How does active learning promote student engagement? What strategies support active learning?

Active learning is authentic learning. It is achieved through effective instructional design and the use of multiple strategies, including online learning communities.

In the assignment, you will graphically design two learning objects to demonstrate your understanding of active learning and how it is beneficial to student engagement and the building of online learning communities.

  • Create a Word document. Follow the steps to complete the assignment.
  • Use APA format for in-text citations and references.
  • Follow the directions to submit your final products.

Step 1. Research
Research the role of active learning in the design of online courses and learning communities. How does active learning promote student engagement? What strategies support active learning? How can active learning help build successful online learning communities?

Step 2. Introduce
Introduce your two learning objects by describing the role of active learning in online course design and how it can be used to build learner engagement and community.

Step 3. Design
In a graphic organizer of your choice, design a learning object to describe the benefits of designing an online course that promotes active participation by students. List some of the dos and don’ts, and explain why these are critical for student engagement and the building of online community.

Step 4. Design
In a graphic organizer of your choice, design a learning object to suggest strategies for engaging students in online learning communities. What are the benefits of such engagement?

Step 5. Conclude
Conclude your paper by suggesting a potential audience for the implementation of the two learning objects. Who could benefit from having access to this information?
