Training Presentation

According to the Texas Core Competencies for Practitioners and Administrators (2013), advanced practitioners are those who “support early learning and development through leadership in the development of program policy and practice and their ability to enhance the knowledge and skills of others in the profession.”(p.12). As college graduates, you should develop skills to place you in the category of an “advanced practitioner”.

For this assignment therefore you will research and develop a training for early childhood administrators on a particular leadership concept. Your presentation must be aligned with PAS item(s).

What you will submit:
• A training presentation that will contain:

o “Facilitator Guide” (30 points)
▪ The title of the presentation
▪ Target Audience
▪ Objectives (Linked to PAS)
▪ Training Methodologies/Strategies
▪ Sequence of Training
▪ How many people this presentation is designed for
▪ A list of all materials that will be needed
▪ A description of the set up (small group set-up, any displays, etc…)
▪ Slide by Slide Notes (These should clearly indicate interactive components).

o Power Point slides (50 points)
▪ At least 20 slides but not more than 30.
▪ Slides with objectives clearly stated
▪ Engaging and creative slides that are informative
▪ Slides that indicate an activity (at least 2 with brief instructions)
▪ Reference slide at the end

o Participant Handouts (20 points)
▪ One that participants will fill in as “notes” for presentation and for activities
▪ One or more information handouts

Choose a topic or theme that supports the language functions being taught and create the content objectives. Select a song, video, book or poem that supports your topic or theme.

The Unit:

Each group member develops a lesson plan on the subjects he/she chose – use the template provided
Each group member is responsible for his/her part of the lesson – a complete lesson plan with objectives, TEKs and the steps of the lesson, the materials needed and samples of the work and how students will be evaluated (in written docs) – Use the lesson plan template to guide you – You must follow the steps – divide the content areas equally among the group members.
Each group member must cover 1 or 2 core areas (Reading, writing, science, social studies and math) and an elective, depending on the number of members in your group. You may combine Teks of have a Tek for each area
Each group member will create at least 10 slides describing his/her part of the lesson, include artifacts, charts, etc. or use visuals in your PPt
The group is responsible for compiling the slides of all the group members into one PPt
The first slide will be the “title” slide and will have the name of the unit and the group members and the section each completed (the slide numbers of each member).
The unit plan web will be loaded onto the second slide of the PPt – typed

Steps to building a unit:
Choose the language function(s) you need to teach at the language level you choose.
Brainstorm the language forms that fit that function(s) at that level. (These will be in your language objectives)
Choose a topic or theme that supports the language functions being taught and create the content objectives.
Select a song, video, book or poem that supports your topic or theme.
Create a list of verbs, nouns adjectives and/or adverbs that support the theme, function and form. (Part of Building Background)
Gather pictures and activities to support your lesson.
Create a simple pre and post assessment geared toward the unit you will be teaching.
Choose several activities that will promote oral language practice throughout your theme.
Gather a writing project that will support your function, form and theme.
Find a project/activity that fits your topic and language objectives to make in class and send home for practice.
Don’t forget to create an evaluation (how you know the students meet the objectives) and expansion activities.

For your final project, you will write a teaching philosophy that synthesizes all of our learning together this semester.
