Describe at least four techniques that you would use to learn about your audience.

Technical writing is and how it differs from other types of writing, define technical writing and its various uses or applications. Include specific examples to support your definition. Your evidence/examples should include but are not limited to, documents, subject fields, websites, etc.

Just as it’s important to recognize the purpose and methodology of technical writing, understanding the facets of an audience and how to meet its needs is critical for technical writers. For example, writers would develop a technical document much differently for a team of scientists than they would for an audience without a background in the same subject matter. In preparation for your contributions to the course discussion on the audience, read pages 89-108 from Chapter 5. Then, explain why it is important to identify the target audience of a document or presentation. Finally, describe at least four techniques that you would use to learn about your audience.

What role does Rhetoric play in the 21st Century.

Here you will tie everything together from the semester to answer the following question: What role does Rhetoric play in the 21st Century.
Rhetoric and writing have changed so much since the time of Plato. Writing and Rhetoric have even drastically changed in the last few years. Rhetoric itself has been defined in so many ways with so many connotations. This is an open-ended essay where you will ponder the current role it serves. You can think about this in any terms you see fit, ie the current political climate, current digital culture, how it pertains to your own field(s) of study and interests, or how your role exists inside of it. In your analysis as you find your own answer to this question, you will be expected to draw upon the various concepts from throughout the semester. This will be an open book, open note final exam essay. You should spend no more or less than 2 hours writing it. There is no page limit or word count, but you will be expected to explore your ideas in full and take advantage of the full amount of time, so when in doubt, keep writing until you have nothing left to say. The key is depth and reflection.
This is not a list or a summary of the things you’ve learned, but it should instead be treated as a final reflection of how you will bring the things you’ve learned further into your life and studies. The role that rhetoric plays in the 21st century is something you must define and explore in this final essay.

Write a paragraph that agrees or disagrees with Marche’s thesis

Read pages 58-66 in the course readings to learn how to integrate sources into your writing. Integrating sources means referring to someone else’s writing as a way to support or illustrate your point. Paraphrasing and including direct quotations are the primary ways of using sources; the readings offer examples of each, and also a glimpse into how easily one’s misuse of a source can be categorized as plagiarism.

Once again, let’s return to “The Epidemic of Facelessness” by Stephen Marche, pp. 34-37 in the course readings. Write a paragraph that agrees or disagrees with Marche’s thesis. Use paraphrasing and quoting in your response, and correct APA in text and parenthetical citations (see Purdue OWL linked in Week 4 Materials folder).
