What are your impressions of faith development in relation to an individual’s other developmental processes?

Thread: James Fowler was an American theologian who was the professor of Theology and Human Development at Emory University. He has produced several pieces of literature illustrating his theory of faith development.

This week, you will review an article that introduces his stages of faith in relation to the developmental concepts you have learned about in this course. Faith theorists recognize the complex interplay of factors that impact ones faith development.

Development of faith, like other aspects of human development, involves movement from one stage to another and is not always systematic or predictable. Individuals can reach chronologic and biolawhile reflecting structural stages of faith that are more indicative of early or middle childhood or adolescence. Spiritual nurturing and practice, combined with a person’s spiritual aptitude and discipline, impacts the pace and depth of faith development.

After reading and reflecting on the article, develop your thread addressing these questions: Use the questions as headings in your post. Remember to include an introductory paragraph and a conclusion.

What are your impressions of faith development in relation to an individual’s other developmental processes? Do you feel that there is interconnection, or do you oppose the idea that successful faith development requires successful development in other areas? Explain your answer using examples and support from the article and/or other sources of information.

Using your personal experiences, briefly describe some of the most meaningful characteristics of your faith development process. If there were pivotal moments or notable influences, good and bad, mention the significance of those people or events. Only include the most relevant details. Make sure to relate your thread to elements of Fowler’s faith development theory and your specific experiences.

How would more conservation education impact the rest of my map?

You need to fill in two maps and then answer questions below on a separate page. (link attached for maps)

Practice divergent thinking on your own. You will make two (2) mind maps (consult text for the definition of mind map). For the first map, put you in the center and map out, or brainstorm, the issues, topics, and behaviors you are passionate about. On the map, show the connections between the passions. Think about if your passions have connections, or how they may influence one another.

For the second map, pick one of these passions. This passion will now be in the middle. Map out the things that this passion affects. For example, my passions are nature, education, dancing, psychology, reading, and my dog. If I pick nature to map, perhaps nature encompasses environmental issues, flora and fauna, and environmental philosophies like conservation. It also affects the government, my family, and the larger community. From these points, continue to map out other connections. For example, I can further map out conservation to include air pollution, water pollution, landfills, etc. Notice how far your connections go. Can you connect one part of your map to another passion from the first map? I can connect land conservation back to education. How would more education impact conservation? How would more conservation education impact the rest of my map?

Once you have completed both maps, make them into images and imbed them in a discussion post. Explain your maps to your colleagues and discuss the connections you observed while making the maps. Did you observe anything you did not expect?

Does national security justify the transformation into a surveillance society?

Topic: Does national security justify the transformation into a surveillance society? (In the United States)

You’ll want to connect (synthesize) what others have already said about this problem so that your readers will have an in-depth understanding of the different perspectives of this topic. With this background understanding, you can move to define a new term, refute someone’s point, further support a perspective, etc. This is not a summary assignment. You should not summarize each source individually, and each paragraph should not be dedicated to only one source. During the research portion of this assignment, you may wind up summarizing your articles – this will help you identify patterns and connections among your sources. Because you want to provide an in-depth background, you must do deep and careful research using reputable sources – a simple Google search will not be enough. Include in-text citations where you paraphrase or quote directly from the article. Include a Works Cited or Reference page at the end of the paper.
