Describe at least one aspect of the experience that you found especially interesting.

Write a report after you have explored or viewed the online resource.

Your report should include the following information. Include photos or links that help convey the information. As always, be sure to document all sources you consult in preparing your work. This includes any learning resources from the class, or information from the websites that informed you about the particular item you explored.

  • Name and location of the museum, site, or performance event. If there is on-line information about the site or performance, be sure to include a link to it within the text of your essay in an appropriate place.
  • Type of museum, site or event. For example is it a portrait or sculpture museum, a music concert, or dance performance? If you viewed a performance, name the performer or the piece.
  • Briefly describe the general setting by talking a bit about the location (you can research the location online) and the general overall “vibe” of the place.
  • Describe at least one aspect of the experience that you found especially interesting. For example, you might write about a particular work of art, cultural artifact, song, dance section, costumes or lighting, a particular vocalist, etc. Explain what impressed or affected you, and why. Your reaction can be positive or negative, as long as you offer an explanation.
  • Identify and use at least two tools, concepts or methods that you have learned about in this class in the Learning Resources to talk about your viewing. For example, if you do a virtual museum tour, you might point out how color works in one of the paintings, or if you view to a concert, talk about how rhythm works in one of the songs. Make sure you are explicit in identifying the tools/concept/methods you are using and the specific learning resources they come from. Make sure to inform the reader about the tool/concept/method through a quote or paraphrase from the learning resource. Then, make sure to tell the reader how you interpret and/or analyze some elements of what you experience with the tools.

How does Kinneavy’s communication triangle apply to your sample document?

Step 1: Find a technical or professional source to analyze.
* Using the internet or hard copy documents to which you have access, find a technical or professional document to analyze for this assignment.
* Consider using instructions, business letters, brochures, “junk mail” flyers, a bill. Any of these will work.
Step 2: Analyze the document
* Who is the writer?
* Who is the intended audience?
* What are the purposes of the document?
* What form does the document take?
* Are there ethical considerations to think about with your document? (ch2)
* How does Kinneavy’s communication triangle apply to your sample document? (ch1)
* What limitations do you see to the communication triangle as you apply it to your selected document?
* How is the document successful in conveying its “reality” to the reader?
* Choose a new audience for your document. With that new audience in mind, what would need to change in the document for it to continue to be usable?
Step 3: Write your analysis
* In a word processing file, answer the questions above in paragraph form.
* Do not merely number the questions and follow each with an answer.
* Explain the document, where it came from, and your answers to the questions.
* There is no particular format to follow such as font size, spacing, etc., but make sure you include your name on the document.
Step 4: Review/Edit your analysis
* Look for spelling and grammar errors.
* Look for awkwardly structured or poorly worded sentences. Ask yourself, do you words actually say what you mean them to say?
* Consider reviewing the page Writing Resources & Support which includes strategies for editing and proofreading your work.
* Consider reviewing the rubric.
Step 5: Submit the file
* Submit your file as an attachment in .rtf, pdf, .doc, or .docx format by the deadline. Late projects will receive a 20% deduction in points.

What makes diplomacy different from other forms of interrelations between states?

This essay may include your view on the particular event in which diplomacy worked or failed. You can take any case, event, or situation in the history of international relations and explain diplomacy’s workings in that context. The required readings of this week help you to delve deeper into history and theories of diplomacy.
You can pick any recent case in international relations that is relevant. Do you think that diplomacy was the only option in that particular instance? What makes diplomacy different from other forms of interrelations between states? You can also describe how diplomacy failed in that context and thus demonstrate the limits of diplomacy.
It would be interesting to know your perspectives on this matter since you have chosen the diplomacy concentration. Why do you think that diplomacy is the best choice for you now?

Please write two [2] paragraphs using two [2] of the quotes you pulled from your research or the poem. Write a quote integration paragraph for each. As you write, remember the following:
You need to introduce each quote and include parentheticals
You need to explain the value/significance of each quote – not a summary! This should be an answer to the “So What?”/an argument supporting your opinion [think about your thesis]
While this is not a requirement, I strongly suggest including one quote from the poem and one quote from your research. This way, you will get feedback on both styles of quote integrations before you are graded on format in the final essay :)
