Go to pages 79-82 for a practical approach to moral decision-making. USE this approach in your analysis.
Explain why you believe this is the “best” or “right” way to resolve the issue.

How is “good” determined? Explain in one or two sentences what the theory argues is the correct way to determine what is right.

Complete the Ethical Theories Comparison Chart

Over the course of thousands of years, various theories have been offered to explain the best way to determine what is ethical. The search for “good” or correct actions and thoughts has provided several strong approaches that are actively used today. While all of the various ethical theories seek to lead one to be ethical, they differ on how this should be accomplished. Each approach has its own strengths and weaknesses. It is important to understand these differences when analyzing ethical decisions from various perspectives.

For this Assignment, you are to add to the chart you constructed in Units 2, 3, and 5 by adding Ross’ prima facie duties and ethics of care. As with the other chart assignments, you will be providing the following for prima facie duties and ethics of care, using your own words:

How is “good” determined? Explain in one or two sentences what the theory argues is the correct way to determine what is right. This is the main argument of the theory in a nutshell.

For this week’s assignment, you will write a 4- to 6-page reflective paper. You will utilize the results of the five IAT assessments from the Unit 7 learning activity and analyze your own personal, spiritual, cultural influences, personal biases, sexual orientation, and socioeconomic influences. In your analysis, you will examine the results of each of those assessments and formulate a plan addressing potential conflicts in those areas. For example, if you are an advocate for pro-life but work with a pregnant mother who is actively using substances and wants an abortion. How would you ethically resolve this conflict between professional and ethical responsibilities and personal beliefs?

Formulate your personal code of conduct when working with diverse clients based upon the NAADAC principles in the areas of spirituality, cultural influences, personal bias, sexual orientation, and socioeconomic status. Describe how your experiences have influenced your thinking and beliefs in each of these areas.

In the final section of your paper, be sure to address how your personal bias may impact your work with future clients. For example, how might your personal bias influence where you choose to work based on the clientele or how you would work with someone who is different than yourself.

Identify and analyze ethical issues in the policy. Identify the potential ethical implications the public program or policy initiative has or will have on impacted groups, suggest alternatives, and as the public administrator responsible for the policy, recommend a pathway forward.

Capital Punishment

Capital Punishment is the state-sanctioned act of killing someone as punishment for a crime. Capital Punishment otherwise known as the death penalty is used in both the state and federal justice systems. Recently, there has been a renewed effort to ban the death penalty on the federal level after President Joe Biden pledged to “eliminate the death penalty at the federal level, and incentivize states to follow the federal government’s example.” during his presidential campaign. Since taking office in January of 2021 Biden has made no effort to support the abolishment and banning of the death penalty despite the introduction of H.R.97 – the Federal Death Penalty Abolition Act of 2021. Biden’s inaction affects those accused of crimes, those involved with the death process, and taxpayers.

Here are the paper instructions:
For the purposes of this assignment, you should identify and analyze ethical issues in the policy, identify the potential ethical implications the public program or policy initiative has or will have on impacted groups (including their positive and negative outcomes), suggest alternatives, and as the public administrator responsible for the policy, recommend a pathway forward. The most important thing is to be able to discuss the ethical implications of the public policy rather than your opinion regarding the validity of issues presented. For example, you might disagree with the practice of euthanasia; however, you should still be able to discuss potential positive and negative outcomes of it, as well as relevant ethical issues associated with its implementation.

The midterm will be a 6-8 page paper (Times new roman, 12pt double-spaced font and normal margins). It accounts for 20% of your overall course grade. You should demonstrate a solid knowledge of ethics concepts and ethical thinking approaches covered to date in the course, as well as an ability to use the relevant literature for analyzing ethics issues and supporting your statements. The essay will only require knowledge of in-class materials and readings, but you are welcome to conduct additional research and utilize other sources as needed.
