How will your plan improve health through prevention?
Chapter 2 highlights the importance of disease prevention under health care reform. It also underscores the significance of the healthcare industry’s shift from managing acute illness towards the promotion of health and wellness. There are different priorities that promote health and disease prevention. Review them here on the Surgeon
General’s website:
Assignment:
After review of the 6 priorities, select 1 and propose an action, intervention, or program to address it.
The action, intervention or program you recommend can be real or fictitious. In other words, it can be a spin-off of one already in existence, based on evidence-based strategies or something of your own design and creation. If you decide to do a spin-off of one already in existence, be sure to specifically highlight what the current program is and what your change is.
The action, intervention or program that you choose (or create) can be large-scale (e.g. a national program) or small-scale (e.g. a grass-roots program in the community or simple actions in the home).
You must address the following in your proposal:
Which one of the 6 priorities will your plan support?
What is your plan?
How will your plan improve health through prevention?
How would you implement your plan?
To what audience will your plan “speak” to?
What outcomes would you expect?
Feel free to be creative. There are no requirements for how you format your plan.
