Demonstrate professional behaviors necessary for health careers including interpersonal skills and collaboration

This discussion board activity is to get you thinking about how you have met one of the Student Learning Outcomes for the B.S. in Health Sciences through this course and throughout your program.
Student learning Outcomes (#2) for the B.S. in Health Sciences is that students will “demonstrate professional behaviors necessary for health careers including interpersonal skills and collaboration”. In this context:
• Consider this course and at least two other required NIU courses that have impacted your learning about professional behaviors necessary for health careers.
• Identify, summarize, and include a pertinent article or reading supporting/explaining professional behaviors in health career (Note: this could be reading material from a previous course).
• Using the courses you identified in #1, describe and summarize a specific assignment that related to your learning about professional behaviors necessary for health careers. Integrate this and the content from the article or reading assignment identified in #2, to reflections on how this has lead to new learning about professional behaviors as it relates to your current work environment.

Identify which health determinants (BIG GEMS) are responsible for the health problem, and/or make it worse using at least one scientific peer-reviewed journal article (cite article).

you are a public health official at the NJDHHS and you have been asked to come up with an intervention to address a public health issue. In a 4 to 6-page essay paper, apply the P.E.R.I. approach to address the problem. Identify, analyze, and address a public health issue of your choosing. You must provide a reason for choosing this health issue and why it is important to address it. Now, using data from the CDC, peer-reviewed articles, or other credible sources (and cite them), describe the PROBLEM in general (ie. How prevalent is a health issue? What is the incidence? What population(s) are affected? Is one population affected more or at higher risk than others? Are there major consequences of the health issue? (Why is this something public health should address?) Discuss the ETIOLOGY of the health issue (i.e. causes, associations) identify which health determinants (BIG GEMS) are responsible for the health problem, and/or make it worse using at least one scientific peer-reviewed journal article (cite article). Identify at least four scientific peer-reviewed journal articles evaluating a specific intervention/program (i.e. IMPLEMENTATION and EVALUATION) that attempts to fix the health problem using either engineering, enforcement, or education* (cite the articles). Describe the approaches each program uses to reduce the problem. Was it primary, secondary, or tertiary intervention? What were the methods used? What were the populations studied and why were they chosen? What were the outcomes of the interventions (i.e. were they successful)? What did the articles identify as future research, or steps to be taken to address the problem? (Use the suggestions in the articles, but also try to think of additional solutions and questions that need to be answered). Based on your research (eg. etiology, interventions methods, the populations, the outcomes, and the strengths and weaknesses of the studies) how successful do you think these interventions how successful do you think these interventions would be for the populations you are targeting? Using your research as justification (eg. the description of the problem, the etiology, the intervention programs you reviewed taking into consideration the population studied, the outcomes, and the strengths and weaknesses of the studies), make a RECOMMENDATION for a future course of action on how to reduce the health issue in your target population. Describe the type of programming you recommend and why? You must be able to justify your recommendation with your research (*Note: If research is sparse, use, and apply articles about a similar health problem or similar populations. If research is really scarce, you can base your recommendation on ETIOLOGY studies. Regardless, you must be able to justify your recommendation.)

Discuss the routes of transmission of your virus and how it can be controlled.

Objective: This assignment will enable students to understand viral life cycles, treatment, epidemiology by exploring a specific virus. They will be able to apply this specific knowledge to the general concepts of virology.

Sign up for a virus. Using the textbook, internet or other sources, answer the following questions about your specific virus.   Type your answers in a different dark color so they stand out.

Questions:

  1. Virus name:
  2. Virus family:
  3. Is this virus naked or enveloped?
  4. What type of genetic information does this virus carry? (dsDNA, ssDNA, dsRNA, (-)RNA, (+)RNA)
  5. Describe the life cycle of a virus. Include all five steps (you may give the generalized virus life cycle).
  6. Discuss the host range of your virus.
  7. Discuss the routes of transmission of your virus and how it can be controlled.

• Justify the informatics program strategy developed by using at least six scholarly works that demonstrate evidence supporting the development of this strategy.
IDN Scenarios:
Option 3: Palm Healthcare Partners:
• This integrated delivery network is comprised of 10 hospitals, five specialty centers in cardiology and endocrinology, 50 physician practices, 40 senior living communities including five skilled nursing facilities (SNFs), a home health agency, and two insurance plans that cover 5 million covered lives in the Florida Atlantic costal area. Strategic imperatives for this IDN include: 15% operational cost reductions that are sustainable across business units and improved population health initiatives involving co-morbid populations of health plan members including persons with congestive heart failure (CHF) and diabetes and related co-morbidities.
