Managed Care Organizations

ADDRESS EVERY BULLETED POINT IN DIFFERENT SECTIONS AND RESOURCE ATTACHED HAS TO BE USED.

For this discussion forum, you are taking on the role of the human resources director in a large health system. Your CEO is unhappy with the current health insurance company due to their poor member services and claim processes. You are tasked to find another company that provides excellent member services and timely claim processes. Your benefits consultant, who represents several insurance companies, is on Family and Medical Leave (FMLA) for 2 months. You decide to search online and locate a top-rated health insurance company (e.g., UnitedHealth, Aetna, etc.). Using the health insurance company that you found, compile the critical information about what they offer to make an informed choice.

In your initial post,

-Describe the member services of the health insurance company you found online (e.g., UnitedHealth or Aetna).
-Discuss current or upcoming technology that benefits plan members.
-Examine the member’s outreach program and incentives for wellness and prevention.
-Identify its accreditation or certification, and its commitment to excellence and quality.
-Generate at least one suggestion to improve the company’s member services or website.

How is Medicare different from other government sponsored healthcare plans? Are the current projections concerning? What types of medical claims will be affected and how? What can or should we do about it? As a future healthcare administrator, how do you weigh your responsibilities for your patients vs. your responsibilities for your healthcare organization?

Medicare (In)solvency

Medicare is the nation’s health insurance program for persons aged 65 and older and certain disabled persons. Medicare consists of four distinct parts: Part A (Hospital Insurance, or HI); Part B (Supplementary Medical Insurance, or SMI); Part C (Medicare Advantage, or MA); and Part D (the outpatient prescription drug benefit). From its inception, the HI Trust Fund has faced a projected shortfall. The insolvency date has been postponed a number of times, primarily due to legislative changes that have had the effect of restraining growth in program spending. The 2018 Medicare Trustees Report projects that, under intermediate assumptions, the HI Trust Fund will become insolvent in 2026, three years earlier than estimated in the prior year’s report.

After reading the following reports (linked below), discuss historical events leading to the looming insolvency. How is Medicare different from other government sponsored healthcare plans? Are the current projections concerning? What types of medical claims will be affected and how? What can or should we do about it? As a future healthcare administrator, how do you weigh your responsibilities for your patients vs. your responsibilities for your healthcare organization?

Create a detailed outline for your ethical issue presentation. Review the presentation criteria and grading rubric and make sure to cover all major requirements.

Detailed Presentation Outline

Background-

Continue researching your ethical dilemma, and be certain to critically examine ethical considerations, health practice, and policy options. While compiling research, organizing thoughts and sketching out direction is an integral part of the developmental process. Afterall, planning a professional presentation is not much different than planning a comprehensive research paper–it is the delivery of the content that looks different, not so much for the preparation. Supportive Submission #2 requires you to prepare a detailed outline of the anticipated topics you will cover in your Critical Assignment Presentation.

Instructions-

Create a detailed outline for your ethical issue presentation. Review the presentation criteria and grading rubric (provided in Weeks 4 or 8) and make sure to cover all major requirements. INCLUDE 3-5 MAJOR bullet points and several SUPPORTING points with discussion for each major requirement. Your supportive discussions must also integrate and cite your references (at least five beyond your textbook). If there are any areas you are lacking references, you may need to do additional research to ensure you have enough support for each area identified in the rubric. I have included a skeleton outline below that you may use as a starting point upon which to build, filling in with details from your specific topic and research. Alternatively, you may feel free to use an outline of your own making/choosing.

All written submissions should be academically sound and free of typos or grammatical errors. Submissions must follow current APA requirements, with 1-inch margins, typed in 12-point Times New Roman font, double spaced, and include an appropriate title page, running heads, page numbers, correctly formatted in-text citations and references where appropriate, and be uploaded as .doc or .docx documents.

Skeleton Outline:

A. Introduction

1. Thesis statement: (actually write it out)

2. Main issues: (list them)

B. Main Issue 1 (ethical dilemma)

C. Main Issue 2 (ethical dilemma)

D. Ethical Considerations

1. Relevant considerations (justificatory conditions, GMC’s, theories on distributive justice, etc.), and principles related to public health practice and/or policy development for your chosen issue (including social justice and the principles of ethical practice of public health)

How would you work with the patient and family/friends to ensure there are no communication problems? How would you work with her social worker and caregiver to make sure her needs are met and that all of you are utilizing cultural competency skills?

Case Study #4: Aging and Disabilities

Read Chapter 13 case study (pg. 481-482) it may reflect an emerging issue with aging individuals and disabilities.
