Describe the sampling strategy you will use for your interviews and justify your approach. How would you develop a good interview topic guide? What kind of questions are most useful? Briefly describe what is meant by the term “informed consent”, the process of obtaining it from research participants, and the challenges to this process in the conduct of this research.

Principles of Social Research

Question 1
Word limit – Up to 1000 words per whole question (equivalent to approximately 2 pages of single-spaced, typed text, with size 11 Arial font). Global evidence shows that women and girls aged 15 to 49 years are at increased risk of physical, sexual and emotional violence from family members and intimate partners during periods of conflict. An international non-governmental organisation (NGO), working in a refugee camp, wants to improve the way it responds to the health and psychosocial needs of women and girls who experience violence. However, there is very little research evidence on violence response interventions in humanitarian settings. The NGO wants to better understand the needs and priorities of women and girls in the refugee camp to make sure their services are meeting their needs. You are a researcher at a local university. You have been asked to conduct a qualitative study in the refugee camp, to explore women’s and girls’ experiences of violence, attitudes towards seeking help and use of the NGO services.

a) You choose to conduct in-depth interviews. Describe the key features of this method and explain why this is appropriate for your research. What are the advantages of this method over other types of interviews? (20%)

b) Describe the sampling strategy you will use for your interviews and justify your approach. (20%)

Question 2
Word limit – Up to 1000 words per whole question (equivalent to approximately 2 pages of single-spaced, typed text, with size 11 Arial font). You are a researcher employed at a private research firm. You have been tasked with organising a number of focus groups with homeless intravenous drug users, (IDUs), to explore their experiences with, and attitudes to, a recently implemented
needle and syringe exchange programme in their city, to reduce the incidence of HIV among IDUs. A non-governmental organisation (NGO), which provides services to homeless IDUs in the city, will assist with the recruitment of prospective participants.

a) Briefly discuss FIVE key issues you would consider in the planning for the focus group study. Include in your answer some detail on the materials you would develop and prepare for use in the focus group, and other resources and requirements for a successful focus group. (50%)

b) You want to convince the international development agency which funded the research, and other partners, that your research is trustworthy. Describe how you will ensure rigour in the conduct and write up of the study. (30%)

c) Bearing in mind that your findings will inform HIV policy initiatives, briefly describe how you would analyse the data from the focus group interviews. Include in your answer the reasons for your choice of analytic approach, and an outline of the stages of that analytic approach. (20%)

Question 1
Using the case study on the following page, classify the case using Kennedy’s Classification system. Then, provide a drawing/diagram of the design. Finally, in a written discussion, justify your design and choice of components explaining the rationale behind your decisions linking to recognised theory; consider the patient’s concerns wherever possible within the design.

Assume the remaining natural teeth are stable and there is no unusual alveolar ridge resorption.

Use the pictures of the arches for drawing and designing the cases.

You have been provided with an additional document/file containing the picture of the arches for this case.

You may print the picture of the arches for this case, draw on them and then take a photo to upload with your submission.

Alternatively draw directly on to the digital file of the arches using software such as paint, adobe photoshop, etc. and then submit this annotated file.

If you prefer you could use
www.sharplingrpddesign.com to create the designs.
Your designs can be uploaded separately with your submission, or the file/ picture of your designs can be embedded in the document with your design justification.

Case Outline

The patient is a healthy 60 yearold male who is currently wearing an acrylic denture with no clasps. He has been missing the upper 1523 for six years. The existing acrylic partial denture has suffered repeated fracture in recent years. He dislikes the fact that he has full palatal coverage as it can sometimes affect his taste and speech. He is conscious about metal showing in his smile line. Classify the case using Kennedy’s classification system, then propose a suitable framework design justifying your choice of design and components.

Using information from the class, how does the information from this paper impact your perception of Domestic Hunger vs. World Hunger? Provide specific information from class to support your answers from a world hunger standpoint. How does something like the COVID-19 pandemic exacerbate poverty and powerlessness? Feel free to use personal or firsthand experiences.

Nutrition reflection

Provide a reflection statement incorporating the following elements:
1. Using information from the class, how does the information from this paper impact your perception of Domestic Hunger vs. World Hunger? Provide specific information from class to support your answers from a world hunger standpoint.

2. How does something like the COVID-19 pandemic exacerbate poverty and powerlessness? Feel free to use personal or firsthand experiences.

3. Lastly, how does something like COVID-19 or any large scale disaster impact the nutritional status of the individuals, and more specifically, you? Going back to our first very basic lecture on normal human nutrition, think about your diet before and since COVID-19. How has it changed? Do you notice differences in the way you eat, or how you access food? Has the pandemic affected your food security? If you feel that last question is too personal, you may skip it. Use a reflective model of your choice – briefly state your rationale for the chosen model rather than another and state why you found it useful in the context of reflecting on clinical incidents. Discussing the significance of reflecting on incidents can be included in this section.

A Framework to Support Transparency in Practice. based on a NMC hearing incident

Summative Assessment guidance

Part 1: Written reflective report 2000 words (50% weighting)

THIS IS A REFLECTIVE REPORT AND NOT AN ESSAY.

Reflective model;

Use a reflective model of your choice – briefly state your rationale for the chosen model rather than another and state why you found it useful in the context of reflecting on clinical incidents. Discussing the significance of reflecting on incidents can be included in this section.

Using headings of the model may help with the structure your account but this is not mandatory.

Introduction:

The Introduction should present a clear sign post of the issues to be discussed. The chosen incident needs to be clearly identified. Confidentiality needs to be addressed for the client, the Organisation and any members of staff you have made reference to. It is advised that you limit the introduction to about 250 words (word allocations are a guide only).

Main report: allocate 1500 words approximately

If you are looking for further headings to use in your reflective report you could use the following to guide the critical incident analysis.

  • Description of the incident- be succinct
  • Who managed/led the incident? In particular the escalation
  • What were the outcomes of the incident: for the client/baby
  • Client involvement?
  • How has the incident affected your practice: what have you learned?

Most incidents happen for a reason: include in your discussion

  • Can be human failure
  • Systems failure
  • Mitigating circumstances.

How the incident was managed and how was it escalated/reported?

  • Why report incidents & barriers to reporting: blame culture/fair culture
  • Reporting through Risk management discuss and analyse in the context of incidents
  • Were statements requested/the significance of statement writing. Perhaps link to your -contractual/professional responsibility?
  • Was there round table-and root cause analysis: discuss its significance
  • How did you learn from it-was there debriefing, if not why not? Significance of such.
  • Was there an opportunity to discuss with named mentor, -if not why not, if yes, what did you learn from that?

Analysis:

The analysis section is really important to argue your points using words such as however, nevertheless on the other hand and whereas.  Decide what particular points of the incident you will analyse, tell the marker why you have chosen those aspects-might be because it had the greatest impact on clients care and your learning. Support with appropriate references: citing research papers where possible is essential.

Action plan as part of your reflective report:

Your action plan is about what you intend to do in future-verbs should be used, always put a timeframe on when you hope to achieve them and always say how you will evaluate them-perhaps your cohort supervisor in clinical practice may help with evaluation..

Conclusion: allocate 250 words approximately

Ensure you have a conclusion that brings all the points of your reflective account together- relating it to learning and to your practice. Include references in your conclusion. Relate your points to theory and to the reality of practice and always to the client involved in the incident No new material should be introduced in your conclusion.

Referencing

Pay attention to your references- and use the Harvard system- a copy placed beside you as write may be helpful.  Choose up to date references (within ten years). Avoid secondary referencing when possible as you cannot always check the original and are relying on interpretation by others.  Avoid the use of too many direct quotes too as their impact will be reduced. Indicate the relevance of each direct quote if used within the text. Direct quotes should not be a substitute for your own opinion.  Strive to find literature to support your analysis. Please cross check that all your references in your assignment appear here in full.
