Why is capital punishment still practiced in this nation? If other countries had America’s crime rate, would their citizens support capital punishment?

( respond with 2 paragraphs to the below)
Most of the democratic countries of the world have abolished capital punishment. Indeed, it was only recently (2005) that the Supreme Court ruled that it was unconstitutional to sentence a person to death for a crime he or she committed while younger than 18. For older offenders, however, the United States continues to execute convicted criminals. Why is capital punishment still practiced in this nation? If other countries had America’s crime rate, would their citizens support capital punishment? Should we draw the line according to age or severity of the crime?

Consider the works of Martin Luther (“Martin Luther Rebukes the Rebelling Peasants”), Bartolomé de las Casas (“The destruction of the Amerindians”), and Thomas Harriot (“A briefe and true report”). In what ways did Europeans use religion as a means of social control? How did these authors justify committing violent acts in the name of God? Do you think they were sincere in their beliefs that they were carrying out God’s will, or was religion just a convenient excuse for brutality and domination? Be sure to consider both sides of the question and include specific examples and quotations from each text to support your answer. Also, be sure to cite your sources!
