Which question do you fell is a non-brainier, that is, it is a clear issue of responsibility or not.

This discussion board will utilize information from this entire unit. Read through and answer this worksheet (I have attached the worksheet under files), assessing culpability during the Holocaust. Organize your thoughts to communicate in the discussion board. Be sure address the following in your post:

Which question do you fell is a non-brainier, that is, it is a clear issue of responsibility or not.

These would be the ones you ranked the most extreme with a one or a four. Elaborate on why you feel like that one is pretty obvious.

Which question surprised you the most? For example, which one had you not thought about their role until this point.

Elaborate on why it was surprising to you.

Which question do you feel like is the most difficult to discern culpability? Explain why you feel that one is so difficult to assess.

You may use the information from the Milligram and Zimbardo (links below) experiments to support your position.

Identify two or three social, economical, or political elements in the development of the “American” culture between 1500 and 1815. Why were these important/significant?

You need to understand what the ‘American” culture is and then you can describe how it developed. I am looking for your grasp of understanding everything we have covered so far in this course so go back to the beginning and tell me how these elements impacted the creation of the ‘American” culture.

Use the information from your reading and any individual research you may have done. Remember to cite any references used. Your paper should be a minimum of three pages long, double spaced.

examine the causes that contributed to the Confederacy’s doomed effort at independence from the United States.

The decision on the part of the slave owing states to secede from the United States in 1861 was perceived – ironically by the scantly numbered anti-secession elements in that region, led by the editorial staff of the Virginian – as a senseless undertaking whose ultimate corollary would entail defeat and suffering for those responsible for its undertaking. In case of a war, the Virginian aptly lamented, “we should, in all the South, not be able to clothe ourselves; we could not fill our firesides, [nor] plough our field.” To the dismay of the Virginian, “all of these things staring us in the face, we shut our eyes and go in blindfold.” In your answer, examine the causes that contributed to the Confederacy’s doomed effort at independence from the United States. You should compare and contrast the Confederacy (South) with the Union (North).

Use the Contents of Lecture 9 to formulate your answer. Do not use outside sources.

What view of United States history is presented by adding these diverse perspectives?

Throughout the course you have been viewing episodes from a variety of documentaries that present the history of diverse groups for information about their experiences and history, but you have also been assessing each film in your video journals for how they reflect the ways that each minority group faced challenges to their identity, and the strategies they used to protect their identity and use institutions to work towards equal rights in American society.  Now that we have reached the end of the semester and you have watched all the assigned episodes, you will think and reflect on the entirety of the films, intended for a popular audience, and critique how they present the history of identities and institutions in the American past.

In a short reflective essay (1-2 pages) consider the strengths and weaknesses of the documentaries we have viewed.  What view of United States history is presented by adding these diverse perspectives?  Were these films able to balance showing the challenges faced by diverse groups in American history as well as the strategies they used to affirm their identity, ie how should documentaries balance stories of discrimination versus stories of agency?
