Identify the concepts and procedures needed for a food and beverage product recall from a manufacturer and from a retail store. Identify the concepts, procedures and issues to manage food and beverage waste and recycling operations.

W3: RFID and Reverse Logistics

RFID and reverse Logistics

Traceability and food safety is at the frontline of fresh foods and safety and packaging science today, in 2012. Leading food suppliers that are concerned with such traceability issues are Bumble Bee Foods, Kraft Foods, Meijer, SUPERVALU, Tyson, Walmart, just to name a few.

I have included a brief primer on what RFID is all about. Read it and then see what you can find out about one of the above companies or some other company who is or has used RFID technology for fresh food safety and packaging.

Some more hints might be standards in the support of traceability and food safety, or data quality and the importance of that data, and also the ever present barcode as a comparison to RFID.

Utilize quantitative forecasting methods with time series data.

Week 5: Assignment 5: Time Series Data Forecasting

Course Objectives:

  • CO6: Utilize quantitative forecasting methods with time series data.

Prompt:

This week is dedicated to Time-Series Forecasting techniques. Start in the Lessons section of the classroom by completing the reading and viewing assignments. Don’t even think about trying to complete this homework assignment without understanding the concepts involved in Forecasting Time-Series data. Once you have the concepts down in chapter 5, and have completed the Discussion forum, you are ready to start this assignment. Download the Excel Template attached to this assignment onto your computer, open it up, and read through the “Red Snapper Scenario” at the top of the page. All of this week’s assignments focuses on historical Red Snapper Catches for 2015 through 2018 (by Quarter) off the coast of Louisiana. The last four rows of the table are empty as 2019 is what you are going to forecast using the historical data for 2015 through 2018. As you scroll down through the Spreadsheet, you will notice in the far left column, there are five tasks for you to complete this week. Every one of these tasks is mirrored in the three YouTube videos below. Although this project is about Red Snapper Catches (your faithful designer’s favorite fish to catch and eat out of the southern bays of Louisiana) and the videos forecast Car sales, the process for forecasting the future year (in our case 2019) is identical.

You will want to watch these videos as you complete each of the five tasks. Where you want to transition from video 1 to video 2 and from video 2 to video 3 is very easy to see. One easy way to get started is to have a video open on one side of your screen and the excel template on the other.

Present a graduate-level paper that has an introduction, brief description of your social issue including the population impacted and associated disparities compared to other demographic groups. Describe three macro-level or upstream determinants of this issue.

Development of social equity and inequity

Purpose: Rather than solely focusing on individual casual factors, structural, systemic, and community-level factors play a powerful role in the well-being of community members. The purpose of this assignment is to help you consider how myriad upstream factors contribute to the development of social equity and inequity. In this paper, you will need to identify one individual-level social or health inequity and describe how historical, socio-political, features of the built environment, legislative policies, and structural and systemic factors have contributed to this issue. You also need to identify potential evidence-informed and strengths-based strategies for addressing this inequity. These solutions must target at least one root cause contributing to inequity.

Possible topics for investigation include: disparities in African American’s female-identified individuals rates of premature births, LGBTQI individuals experiences of social isolation in older adulthood, or high rates of opioid abuse in low-income individuals in rural communities. This assignment is intended to be a starting place for thinking about the interconnectedness between the structural and the personal and to center the importance of community-level strategies to achieving equity and social justice.

Paper Format: Present a graduate-level paper that has an introduction, brief description of your social issue including the population impacted and associated disparities compared to other demographic groups. In the body of the paper, describe three macro-level or upstream determinants of this issue. This can include social policies, features of the built environment, and community-level factors. DO NOT describe individual-level indicators such as mental health diagnoses or personal health behaviors. In your conclusion, describes tangible evidence-informed strategies to effect change at the community-level and address inequities in health outcomes among your population of interest. It is critical that you connect these strategies to your personal conceptualizations of social justice and the Social Work code of ethics. Throughout the paper, please demonstrate (and reference where appropriate) your knowledge of the required readings, lectures and discussions.

Describe the program/service for which the logic model will be created. What are the primary programmatic elements? In what ways will this program meet the identified needs? What goals is the program trying to achieve?

Based on the findings from your needs assessment (i.e., the identified program or service that you would like to implement), develop a logic model. The “program/service” may be broadly defined. Ideally, this program would be a new element/offering in a larger community-based organization identified in the needs assessment. However, it could also be a new community-based organization meeting a new and distinct need among the recipient population and community (check in with me if you have questions regarding the program’s appropriateness for this assignment).

1. Introduction (at least one citation in addition to the textbook should be provided in this section)
a. Provide a thorough description of a logic model.
b. In what ways do logic models inform social work practice? How are they best used in program evaluation?
c. What are the key limitations of using logic models in social work?

2. Describe the program/service for which the logic model will be created. What are the primary programmatic elements? In what ways will this program meet the identified needs? What goals is the program trying to achieve? It is permissible to use the same program description from the previous assignment.

3. Develop a logic model containing the following elements: input; activities; output; intermediate outcomes; final/long-term outcomes. Provide both a logic model template and a narrative explaining the different components.

You are welcome to use/create any logic model template that, at a minimum, includes inputs, activities, outputs, short-term outcomes, and final outcomes. Each component should be in its own column in the logic model.
A narrative that provides a more detailed description of the information provided in the template. Ensure that you have explained why you chose activities and how they logically lead to outcomes (e.g., your theory of change). Explain why you chose your inputs as it relates to best practices/empirical evidence (citational evidence is appropriate). Ensure that all items identified in the logic model template are clearly defined in the narrative.
Inputs – Input items may be related to clients, staff, material resources, facilities, and needed equipment.
Activities – Identify all services to be provided. List the relevant service tasks and methods of intervention for each service.
Outputs – List and define units of service for each service to be provided.
Short-term Outcomes – List the immediate outcomes for each service being provided.
Final Outcomes – List final outcomes

4. Concluding thoughts about logic modeling and the impact on the program, agency, and
community being served. Include a brief description of how you think the logic model will be used in your forthcoming program evaluation assignment.

The maximum length for this paper is 4 pages; one page will be the logic model template. All aspects of the paper should conform to the 7th edition of the APA manual.

Research online for an authoritative (expert) resource that helps you to answer a very simple question: What are the basic differences between supply-driven and demand-driven forecasting?

W2: What is Demand-Driven Forecasting?

Course Objectives:

CO2: Examine the concept of demand-driven forecasting as compared to supply-driven forecasting

Discussion Prompt:

In addition to reading your assigned resources for week 2, you have some research to complete for this week’s discussion:

  1. Research online for an authoritative (expert) resource that helps you to answer a very simple question: What are the basic differences between supply-driven and demand-driven forecasting.  Before posting, check any other student postings and try to not duplicate the resource they have used.
  2. Start your Discussion by inserting a hyperlink for your resource(Note – To insert a hyperlink, type in a one or two word phrase that introduces the resource, highlight it, then click on the small Chain-link in the navigation panel above and insert a copy of the URL Address for the resource)
  3. Next, directly under the hyperlink, author a paragraph discussing what you learned about the differences between supply- and demand-driven forecasting and any points that may have been either additive to or different from the lesson reading assignments.
  4. The final task for this discussion is to briefly summarize what you have learned that you wish to pass on to the rest of us in the course that identifies the primary difference between supply-driven and demand-driven forecasting.
