1. Leaders who bring empathy or any sense of emotional connection to the internal customers (employees) and the external customers is the key toward higher employee and customer satisfaction.

Integrating empathy when dealing with the customers and employees is highly effective. But, what is empathy, and do all leaders have it and/or more important, apply it? The ability of leaders, managers, and employees to understand, interpret, and respond to the emotions of others is key in serving others.

Are you familiar with emotional intelligence (EI)? In 1995, the concept of emotional intelligence was popularized after the publication of Daniel Goleman’s book “Emotional Intelligence: Why It Can Matter More Than IQ.”

2. It is always fun to find relevant articles to support discussions, especially when I know the author! In Week 3, we shift specifically to customer service and process improvement. Since my background in in the food service industry, I thought this was a great article to share. My affiliation with a state Restaurant Association I was involved with the city water and waste program, specifically eradication of waste, so this topic is not new to me. The estimated economic cost of energy, fuel, water scarcity, labor, commodities, and miscellaneous for food waste is estimated as $2.6 trillion per year (The Food and Agriculture Organization of the United States [FAO], 2014). Approximately 133 billion pounds of food is attributed to the food chain supply, one-third of that waste from restaurants. (Gollnhofer, 2017; Kowalska, 2017; Massow & McAdams, 2015). Granted there are some restaurant concepts that produce more waste than others and what is also important to note here is the type of waste. Grease is the worst! In the study by Blum (2020), the first step is to develop standardize protocols as a way to quantification measures. Specifically, restaurant leaders are encouraged to track and monitor food waste to identify where loss and waste is occurring. Strategies to reduce food waste and costs associated with waste include, but are not limited to, a system of regularly rotating food, using software inventory management, and waste recycling. Strategies to achieve waste reduction include setting measures, monitoring, staff engagement, and reduce overproduction (Blum, 2020). Restaurants are not the only operation that should be conscientious of food waste. What are some of the things that you do in your home to help with the reduction of food waste? Affinity Diagram and Root Cause Analysis

The purpose of this assignment is to identify an organizational problem to solve within your current workplace or industry and use an affinity diagram to brainstorm the root causes of the organizational problem and potential solutions for addressing it. (The organization problem I’d like to use is ineffective leadership) However, I am open to other ideas. :)

For this assignment, the first step is to identify an organizational problem to solve within your current workplace or industry. This is an opportunity for you to apply your learning while addressing a real-world problem. After you have identified a possible organizational problem, complete the “Brainstorming With an Affinity Diagram” resource to help you narrow and specify the root cause for the problem. Completing the affinity diagram will not only help you identify the root causes for the problem but also to determine the scope of influence you can have in reaching a potential solution. Keep in mind that this exercise is meant to identify a viable solution within the scope of influence in which you are directly involved and will ultimately allow you to be an agent of change.

Complete the affinity diagram action steps outlined in the “Brainstorming With an Affinity Diagram” resource, including the Five Whys Root Cause Analysis section. This can be done using online mind mapping resources like those found in the study materials, by using post-it notes, or through the use of Excel or Word documents and tables. When constructing the affinity diagram, be sure to complete all six steps described on the resource. You will reference these root causes again within your final business proposal in Topic 8.

Submit both the affinity diagram and the five whys root cause analysis to your instructor. Evidence of revision from instructor feedback will be assessed on the final business proposal.

In your discussion, compare these countries with what organizations in the United States provide employees.

Topics to include in your comparison will include, but not limited to, health insurance benefits, wages, and paid time off.

When sharing and comparing the countries, make sure you include information as to why. For example, if the income tax rate is extremely high, organizations might tend to offer X benefit.

Next, you want identify what these countries might do better and what might US organization do better.

Finally, make a recommendation as to 1) which country your organization should consider entering and 2) what benefits and wage practices would you recommend and would these benefits be the same as to what you offer employees in the United States.

Keep in mind that what you provide in your paper must support your recommendations. For example, in France, if you take public transportation to and from work, the company must pay 50% of their monthly transportation pass. This is something that might work for your organization here in the United States, especially in larger cities that encourage using mass transit, but you need to make sure you explain why if you did not already share this in the body of your paper.

In one column enter 8 heights for 10 year old boys (inches) and in the second column enter 8 weights for 10 year old boys (pounds). Ten year old boys height ranges from 42 inches to 62 inches while the weight ranges from 60 to 90 pounds. You can make these up as long as they are reasonable if you do not have access to any data. We want to see if there is a correlation.

Select Add Trendline (Note you may need to add Trendline and then click on the line to format Trendline)
The default radio button is linear, keep it checked
Check display equation on chart and click on the display r-squared value
The equation is your least squares line
On the least squares line the slope is in front of the x value. Also, you can look at the slope of the scatter plot to see if the slope is positive. This will let you know whether to make the r value positive or negative when you take the square root of r^2.
If the r^2 value is say .0382 then you will click on an excel cell and type
=.0382^.5

Note the ^ key is above the 6 key

This will be your r value and you will make it negative if your slope is negative otherwise leave it positive.
If you have a different version of excel then you may want to search to see how to form a trendline. These instructions work with Office 365 and Office 2010.
