Explain how the lack of these principles led to poor performance of the group or team.

Read the following articles about building and leading effective teams:

Building and Leading High Performance Teams
Building Effective Teams Isn’t Rocket Science, but It’s Just as Hard (Note: This article can only be accessed a limited number of times.)
Managing groups and teams is an essential element of the leading facet of the P-O-L-C framework. As you read these articles, reflect on your experience working in groups and teams, and then address the following prompts:

Think about a positive experience when you worked in a group or team and identify the principles that were presented in the articles that were exhibited by your group or team. Explain how these principles helped the group or team succeed.
Think about a negative experience when you worked in a group or team and identify which principles from the articles were lacking. Explain how the lack of these principles led to poor performance of the group or team.
If you were the manager of that group or team, how would you correct the issues that caused the poor performance? Consider the material from this module and in the articles.

Identify the key individuals (stakeholder groups) in the unused calculator case, and discuss the extent to which each stakeholder is resistant to change (i.e., is amenable to use of the technology).

Nelsen, B. J., & Valadez, M. S. (2012). Resistance to technological change: The case of the unused calculators. Journal of Case Studies, 30(2), 14-20.

Then, in a well-written 5- to 6-page paper, to include 3 scholarly sources from the required and optional readings list, please respond to the following:

Part One:

Briefly summarize the circumstances confronting Ms. Figueroa in her quest to have the calculators widely used at the American School for the Deaf (ASD).
Part Two:

Identify the key individuals (stakeholder groups) in the unused calculator case, and discuss the extent to which each stakeholder is resistant to change (i.e., is amenable to use of the technology).
How might the different perspectives of each of the major stakeholders, in this case, come together to further increase the overall resistance to change at the ASD?
Part Three: Using the background readings:

What factors—other than the technology itself—do you believe contributed to the resistance to change on the part of each of the major stakeholders you have identified in Item #2 above (mistrust, fear, loss of job security)?
Part Four: Conclude your paper by commenting on the following:

Is it possible that Ms. Figueroa can resolve this situation such that the calculators can be used at the ASD?
Or, is the resistance to change at the ASD now impossible to overcome? Be sure to explain your reasoning.

What does research suggest as a best practice for how much time should be spent in
initiating and planning activities for projects? Do you think that estimate is realistic? Why or why not? How does spending more time on planning help reduce time spent on executing? Give examples of how this has worked on real projects.

Write a summary report detailing the ergonomic approach that would have improved the purchase, installation and ultimate

You are the Safety and Risk Manager for a large distribution warehouse.
The company has recently won two major contracts in succession and with increased production has
been required to employ more staff and change the packaging of goods coming into the warehouse.
Staff on the two new packing lines stand and work at fixed height benches and are cutting open boxes,
removing and packing hand held products into new boxes. The boxes are then are placed onto the
conveyor belt line and two employees take the boxes from the line and stack them onto two pallets on
the ground at the end of the line. The job of pallet stacking is rotated among those working on the line.
Once the pallets have been stacked to a height of around 1.5m a fork lift truck removes them and brings
new pallets to be filled.
You are asked to carry out an ‘ergonomic assessment’ to identify any issues and suggest potential
solutions.
Note You are free to make further assumptions about the design of the packing line and process to
allow discussion of hazards, risks and controls. If applicable, such assumptions should be made known
to the reader.
Part A
Detail what ergonomic assessments you would you carry out noting:
(i) specific tasks you would focus on and why
(ii) suggested ergonomic improvements
Part B
Shortly afterwards you return from annual leave to discover the Production and Facilities Managers
decided unilaterally to order, purchase and install mechanical lifting aids for the end of each line.
They are both unhappy as production seems to have slowed down rather than increased, and the lifting
aids are not always being used. They report to you that a member of staff “pressed the wrong button
and dropped a number of boxes”. Fortunately, they just missed a member of staff’s foot. You are asked
to speak with staff to “fix the problem and get them to use the lifting aides properly”. During initial
discussions, a number of staff say they feel the lifting aide takes longer than manual handling and also
is too complicated to use.
What has gone wrong?
Write a summary report detailing
(i) the ergonomic approach that would have improved the purchase, installation and ultimate
use of the mechanical lifting aid
(ii) any potential breaches of health and safety law that could arise from the way the machinery
has been brought into use

Critically assess to what extent it is actually possible to exert control within a complex project, programme and/or portfolio

Project controls allegedly allow projects to be monitored and controlled, however large, complex and uncertain projects and programmes are often late, over budget, and fail to achieve their original objectives. Critically analyse the interplay between humans and project control systems which contribute to this and critically assess to what extent it is actually possible to exert control within a complex project, programme and/or portfolio. Within your essay critique should be given concerning approaches to control which are referred to in your analysis.
The essay should be 3500 words (maximum 3850 words, minimum 3150 words) in length, (including all quotes and citations but not including references).
