Artistic music of antiquity focused on works for the human voice. It wasn’t until the Renaissance that instrumental music was crafted with the same level of artistry. Of the three possible choices: purely vocal, purely instrumental, or combined voices and instruments, what are the artistic advantages and disadvantages of each?
