Hypertension Discussion

The advanced practice nurse is updating the plan of care of nursing home patients with hypertension.

  1. Briefly describe the therapeutic actions of drugs affecting blood pressure (diuretics, ACE inhibitors, ARBs, CCB, sympathetic nervous system drugs).
  2. What important teaching points should be addressed for patients receiving antihypertensive drugs.
  • should be at least 500 words, formatted and (in-text) cited in current APA style with support from at least 2 academic sources.

In your initial 200–250 word post, describe a recent clinical scenario where you faced a patient problem that required choosing between one intervention and another.

DISCUSSION ESSAY

In your initial 200–250 word post, describe a recent clinical scenario where you faced a patient problem that required choosing between one intervention and another.

For example, an oncology infusion center scenario could generate a clinical decision to choose between narcotics alone or narcotics and music therapy to treat bone pain associated with a bone-marrow stimulating drug. The same scenario generates meaningful issues such as vulnerability, pain, feeling mortal, etc.

Then, respond to at least two of your peers’ posts.

Discussion Prompts

  • Construct a PICO question about effectiveness. In general, what do you need to know?
  • What is the patient experience that you want to understand?
  • What was the most challenging part of writing either type of question?
  • What role do you think questioning plays or will play in your everyday practice?

Provide your peers with specific feedback, constructive criticism, suggestions for improvement, and ideas for resources or support. Comment to a minimum of two peers.

Week 3 Assignment: Historical and Mathematical Perspectives of Inquiry

Compose a focused paper that explains and describes your selected research from the historical and mathematical perspectives of inquiry. (You will cover these two perspectives in one paper.) Address your general topic by forming and answering two levels of research questions for each inquiry. See the Content & Activities section of the course for examples and details.

The paper requirements include:

Title Page in APA Format

Introduction

First paragraph: Thesis statement and background information regarding the problem.
Second paragraph: Information providing the reader a preview of what is presented in the paper itself. For example, “This paper will present the historical and mathematical perspectives related to the thesis. The level one historical question is…”

Body of Paper (4-6 pages)

Use headings in APA format to clearly indicate the perspectives and level one and two questions being discussed in the content of the paper.
Use scholarly research (published within the last five years) to answer the research questions proposed.
Include a minimum of four scholarly sources in total, two of which must be quantitative studies.

Conclusion

Summarize the information presented by reviewing the issues, information, questions//answers, and stating any insights.

References Page in APA Format

Four to six scholarly sources with a minimum of two quantitative studies included
The paper should include four to six pages of content, which does not include the title and references list.

Analyze factors that inform the expression, course, and prevalence of psychopathology. Analyze psychiatric assessment strategies and tools. Apply DSM-5-TR criteria to the assessment and diagnosis of patients with mental disorders across the lifespan.

Case study

By the conclusion of this course, you should be able to:

Analyze factors that inform the expression, course, and prevalence of psychopathology.
Analyze psychiatric assessment strategies and tools.
Apply DSM-5-TR criteria to the assessment and diagnosis of patients with mental disorders across the lifespan.
Apply concepts, theories, and principles related to patient interviewing and diagnostic reasoning.
Document patient information using appropriate formats and methods for advanced practice nurses in mental health settings.

Week 9
Create documentation in the Comprehensive Psychiatric Evaluation Template about the patient you selected. In the Subjective section, provide:

  • Chief complaint
  • History of present illness (HPI)
  • Past psychiatric history
  • Medication trials and current medications
  • Psychotherapy or previous psychiatric diagnosis
  • Pertinent substance use, family psychiatric/substance use, social, and medical history
  • Allergies
  • ROS

The response thoroughly and accurately describes the patient’s subjective complaint, history of present illness, past psychiatric history, medication trials and current medications, psychotherapy or previous psychiatric diagnosis, pertinent histories, allergies, and review of all systems that would inform a differential diagnosis.
The response accurately describes the patient’s subjective complaint, history of present illness, past psychiatric history, medication trials and current medications, psychotherapy or previous psychiatric diagnosis, pertinent histories, allergies, and review of all systems that would inform a differential diagnosis.

The response describes the patient’s subjective complaint, history of present illness, past psychiatric history, medication trials and current medications, psychotherapy or previous psychiatric diagnosis, pertinent histories, allergies, and review of all systems that would inform a differential diagnosis, but is somewhat vague or contains minor inaccuracies.
In the Assessment section, provide: • Results of the mental status examination, presented in paragraph form. • At least three differentials with supporting evidence. List them from top priority to least priority. Compare the DSM-5-TR diagnostic criteria for each differential diagnosis and explain what DSM-5-TR criteria rules out the differential diagnosis to find an accurate diagnosis. Explain the critical-thinking process that led you to the primary diagnosis you selected. Include pertinent positives and pertinent negatives for the specific patient case.
reflect on this case. Discuss what you learned and what you might do differently. Also include in your reflection a discussion related to legal/ethical considerations (demonstrate critical thinking beyond confidentiality and consent for treatment!), social determinates of health, health promotion and disease prevention taking into consideration patient factors (such as age, ethnic group, etc.), PMH, and other risk factors (e.g., socioeconomic, cultural background, etc.).
Provide at least three evidence-based, peer-reviewed journal articles or evidenced-based guidelines that relate to this case to support your diagnostics and differential diagnoses. Be sure they are current (no more than 5 years old).

Written Expression and Formatting—Paragraph development and organization: Paragraphs make clear points that support well-developed ideas, flow logically, and demonstrate continuity of ideas. Sentences are carefully focused—neither long and rambling nor short and lacking substance. A clear and comprehensive purpose statement and introduction are provided that delineate all required criteria.

Mercy Hospital is a faith-based facility organized as a non-profit corporation. Which economic assumption is called into question for this type of organizational status?

DISCUSSION ESSAY

The economic theory of market competition has been at the forefront of many arguments calling for the restructuring of the American healthcare system. Some policy makers claim that a competitive market brings efficiency to a costly system, as well as greater social welfare. Since the 1990’s healthcare reforms show evidence that supports increased competition slows the growth of costs, but less support is available for the efficiency claim. During that same period, uninsured and underinsured were increasing, as were complaints that the corporatization of health care was decreasing the quality of care. Since the enactment of the Affordable Care Act in 2010, the issue with no/low coverage was addressed, however the impact on costs has led to some policy-makers calling for a repeal of the act, replacing it with a yet-to-be-defined alternative. Because economic theory and research help guide policy makers by providing them with supporting information, healthcare economists believe that careful evaluation of the assumptions on which economic theory is based are still valid when discussing healthcare.

Answer the following question. Support your answer from your textbook. Follow the discussion board rubric.

What steps would you recommend to ensure that your peer’s vulnerable group is ethically protected throughout the research as well as the participation element of a community-based participatory research project (that is, shelter services, food banks, case management, support groups, etc.)?

Research project

Reply to at least two of your classmates. When replying to your peers, think about the ethical considerations related to research or working with a vulnerable population. Although the vulnerable share characteristics making them susceptible to health concerns, they remain unique. In the initial post, everyone discussed both strengths and weaknesses inherent to a specific vulnerable population. What steps would you recommend to ensure that your peer’s vulnerable group is ethically protected throughout the research as well as the participation element of a community-based participatory research project (that is, shelter services, food banks, case management, support groups, etc.)? Reply to at least two of your classmates on two separate days (minimum) utilizing at least two scholarly references per peer post.
