Question #3

(a) Describe both the positive and negative influences (family, friends, media, personal challenges, world events, etc.) that have significantly shaped YOUR current body image?

(b) Consider the “Spectrum of Eating Behavior.” Create your “Eating Behavior” profile—list the behavioral characteristics from the list of words in the three columns. No one is ‘perfect.’ We each habitually do things that are not ‘healthy’–especially true as we juggle job, family, and school.

Question #4

People with eating disorders (and others) can be harmed by cyberbullying.

Since social media outlets are sure to increase how, in your opinion, can this area be revised, restructured, even possibly restricted so that we all (and especially children and teenagers) can engage with the world in productive, mutually beneficial ways?

Given that the world has always been dangerous; nothing can be made 100% safe —what are the three to four policies you would establish to regulate social media’s harmful impacts on participants’ self-image—particularly for those younger than 18?

Explain your answer and provide examples/situations from your experiences with social media. 1page needed

What are the policies and projects, if implemented, that could result in a US food supply that REALISTICALLY provides nutritious, safe, abundant, and affordable food for ALL Americans?

You are now the President of the United States.

You ARE now the President of the United States. It’s 2024. It is your first term of office. You were elected with 310 electoral votes and won with 20 million votes over your opponent. Your political party controls both Congress and the Senate with a large majority of votes. Plus, you enjoy wide support from the public.

Your campaign slogan was: “Good Food, Safe & Affordable” because of your deep concerns about the health of all Americans.

Now it’s time to deliver on your campaign promises. Your focus will be on low-income communities because success in these communities will bubble up and improve conditions for the rest of America.

You are shocked and amazed by the current US Obesity Crisis. In 2020, 42% of adults were obese. It is projected that by 2030 half (50%) of adults will be obese whereas 1 in 4 adults will be severely obese. Childhood obesity has become a serious concern.

The goal: A healthy America where its citizens have easy access to good food that is safe and affordable.

You will need to understand WHY the current food and health situations exist before developing policies to achieve your goal. Here are some of the topics to investigate:

• If there is only one human species, why do health disparities exist in (socially categorized) racial groups? What is the origin of the health disparities observed in (socially categorized) racial groups?

• Are health disparities confined to (socially categorized) racial groups? Are there other communities similarly affected?

• Life expectancy of Americans is declining.

• Expensive to treat (yet avoidable) chronic diseases are increasing.

• Composition of the US food supply is shaped by USDA polices and farming subsidies.

• In the US of every dollar spent by consumers on food, only 15 cents go to farmers.

• 10 global food companies dominated the food products found in US grocery stores. Most foods are ultra-processed food products.

• Diets filled with ultra-processed foods are suspected of driving the obesity epidemic.

• 30% of the US food supply is wasted annually. The rotting food contributes to global warming.

• Yet many families in the US are food insecure.

There are other challenges facing America today that have adversely impacted the US food supply. Due to Ukrainian-Russian War food and transportation costs have skyrocketed over 12% since January 2022.

What are the policies and projects, if implemented, that could result in a US food supply that REALISTICALLY provides nutritious, safe, abundant, and affordable food for ALL Americans?

Answer the following items SEPARATELY

(1) What are the 3 to 4 areas that are so important to your success that they must be tackled first? Explain why each area is critical to the overall success of achieving your “Good Food, Safe & Affordable” goal. 1-page will be needed to:

(a) fully describe each individual area and

(b) explain why each is so important to achieving the goal of “Good Food, Safe, and Affordable.”. Provide citations for Item #1.

(2) What can be done REALISTICALLY through local, regional, national policy changes and/or incentives to achieve success in item #1? The food industry may resist changes that appear to adversely impact future profits. Currently ultra-processed foods are highly profitable. Can ultra-processed foods be manufactured that are truly nutritious? [Consider the packaged meals created for the military and astronauts.] 2 pages will be needed to:

(a) fully describe each proposed change,

(b) explain why this change is needed, and (c) describe the expected improvement the change would generate when implemented. Consider why each proposed change will be so important to your success. Provide citations for Item #2.

(3) Briefly summarize your proposed action plan along with the expected outcomes/improvements. 1 page will be needed.

(4) Create a realistic plan to encourage and activate political support for your plan (in Item #3) from the general public (locally, regionally, and nationally)? 2 pages will be needed.

NB– 1 page should exceed 250 words

How do the values from BMI, Waist to Hip Ratio [WHR], and Waist to Height [WtHR] compare? How well do these three methods agree with each other? Given what you have learned about the BMI, WHR, and WtHR methods–determine the healthy weight for you, personally. Explain why or how you decided on that number.

2.2012 Why the Body Mass Index BMI is a Poor Measure of Your Health.pdf

Determine your Waist to Hip Ratio [WHR] Measure your waist-hip ratio. 1. Measure around the waist in the narrowest part, usually just above the belly button. 2. Divide this measurement by the measurement around your hip at its widest part.

Example: If a person’s waist is 28 inches and their hips are 36 inches, they will divide 28 by 36. This will give a waist-hip ratio of 0.77.

Determine your Waist to Height Ratio [WtHR]. To calculate the WtHR, a person should divide their waist size by their height. If the answer is 0.5 or less, the chances are that they have a healthy weight.

Examples: (a) A woman who is 5 feet and 4 inches tall (64 inches or 163 cm), should have a waist measurement BELOW 32 inches (81 cm). (b) A man who is 6 feet tall (72 inches or 183 cm), should have a waist measurement BELOW 36 inches (91 cm). These measurements for (3a) and (3b) will give a WtHR of just under 0.5.

1) List the values of your:

(a) Age- 34

(b) BMI- 32.1

(c) Waist to Hip Ratio [WHR] and- 0.91

(d) Waist to Height Ratio [WtHR]- 0.8

(2) For each method (a), (b), and (c)—what would be the value expected if a healthy person of your gender?

(3) How do the values from BMI, Waist to Hip Ratio [WHR], and Waist to Height [WtHR] compare? How well do these three methods agree with each other? For example: If your BMI number put you in the Obese category—did WHR and/or WtHR values give you a similar interpretation of your health status? Suggestion: take another look at the “Why BMI Is Flawed” article.

(4) Given what you have learned about the BMI, WHR, and WtHR methods–determine the healthy weight for you, personally. Explain why or how you decided on that number

Nourished Kitchen

Medline Checklist was informative and relevant in assessing the health/nutrition content accuracy on the website I chose. In addition, I could locate useful nutrition information on the Nourished Kitchen website. The beauty and medicine of genuine types of food like bone broth, fresh fruits and veggies, herbal remedies, fermented veggies and beverages, sourdough, naturally sweetened desserts, healthy fats, raw milk, and ancient grains are celebrated at Nourished Kitchen. The above checklist also enabled me to judge how reliable the information posted on the webpage is. For instance, the information on Nourishedkitchen.com is written by a professional nutritional therapist, making it not only reliable but accurate. Jenny McGruther, NTP, is a best-selling cookbook author, herbalist,  nutritional therapist, and food educator. She has taught many people both online and in seminars worldwide the culinary expertise and expertise of cooking with natural foods. Jenny is a member of the NTA and a Nutritional Therapy Practitioner, and she helped create and write the culinary wellbeing program. Jenny is also a member of the American Herbalist Guild, having studied at the Herbal Academy.

The checklist also helped me realize the importance of the privacy of personal information on websites. Unfortunately, websites collect personal information all the time. Whenever information regarding someone has been gathered, it may be used, shared, and potentially exploited in infinite ways. It may be used to adapt electronic advertisements to their habits and preferences.   Friends of mutual acquaintances may have access to your online accounts and can learn what you do daily, according to the privacy settings. When people shop in a store, a firm may be able to follow them and utilize this data in ways individuals may not like. A hacker or malicious actor might obtain access to personal information, such as one’s bank account and other financial details.

Consider—how many people are enrolled in this research study described in the abstract?

This is the QUESTION TO ANSWER for (4):
Given how the study was done: Do the results of this study give you as much confidence (believable) when compared with the research from the studies listed in item #2?
Explain why or why not—(1-3 paragraphs)—consider what you learned from epidemiology readings.

READ THE ABSTRACT for the Vinegar Affect on Health Research Report Then answer Item #4
European Journal of Clinical Nutrition (2005) 59, 983–988 & 2005 Nature Publishing Group
Vinegar supplementation lowers glucose and insulin responses and increases satiety after a bread meal in healthy subjects

Objective: To investigate the potential of acetic acid supplementation as a means of lowering the glycaemic index (GI) of a bread meal, and to evaluate the possible dose–response effect on postprandial glycaemia, insulinaemia and satiety.

Subjects and setting: In all, 12 healthy volunteers participated and the tests were performed at Applied Nutrition and Food Chemistry, Lund University, Sweden.

Intervention: Three levels of vinegar (18, 23 and 28mmol acetic acid) were served with a portion of white wheat bread containing 50g available carbohydrates as breakfast in randomized order after an overnight fast. Bread served without vinegar was used as a reference meal. Blood samples were taken during 120min for analysis of glucose and insulin. Satiety was measured with a subjective rating scale.

Results: A significant dose–response relation was seen at 30min for blood glucose and serum insulin responses; the higher the acetic acid level, the lower the metabolic responses. Furthermore, the rating of satiety was directly related to the acetic acid level
