What is the purpose of the control status baseline in operational planning? What specific characteristic of the virtual environment makes it essential that control status is constantly updated?

Principles of CyberSecurity

Answer these seven questions as completely as possible – be specific

Cybersecurity is a process that begins with identification and ends with an explicit set of tangible cybersecurity controls. What are the fundamental stages in that process and why is there a need to do those in the right order?

What differentiates the security of operations phase from the policy/strategy phase? What specific things does an operational plan need to factor in that a strategic plan doesn’t? Explain how tailoring factors in here.

What is the purpose of the control status baseline in operational planning? What specific characteristic of the virtual environment makes it essential that control status is constantly updated?

How does situational awareness/incident reporting shape the operational control response? What would be lacking if that function were not carried out on a persistent and continuous basis?

What is the value of management authorization in long-term control operations? Specifically, what does authorization provide that is often missing from the security operations process .

What general education, training and awareness steps does an organization need to take to become more capable? What is the effect of each step, in terms of improved security functioning?

What is an “acceptable use policy” and why is it so potentially important to ensuring security of information?

Considering the highest priority problem behavior from your last assignment, select a method to conduct the indirect assessment. You can choose from a variety of tools such as the FAST, FAI, QABF, MAS, or the IISCA Open-Ended Interview.

DISCUSSION ESSAY

For this assignment, you will demonstrate the skills needed for conducting an indirect assessment. This generally is how practitioners begin the FBA. Although the indirect assessment does not require you to observe the target behaviors, it is a critical component of the FBA because it allows you to build rapport with the stakeholders. The information gathered in this part of the analysis will also inform your descriptive and/or experimental analysis. Be sure to incorporate values of compassion and cultural humility when conducting the indirect assessment. You can refer to the Capella Compassion Code [DOCX] for more details.

Part 1: Selecting the Tool or Method

Considering the highest priority problem behavior from your last assignment, select a method to conduct the indirect assessment. You can choose from a variety of tools such as the FAST, FAI, QABF, MAS, or the IISCA Open-Ended Interview. If you choose a survey or a checklist, your indirect assessment must also include an interview. Document the advantages and limitations of the selected tool. Provide a rationale for why you have selected this tool for your indirect assessment. Be sure to consider compassionate approaches when selecting your indirect assessment.

Part 2: Gathering and Summarizing Information

If you chose a fellow learner, friend, or family member, summarize the information collected from interviews with stakeholders and/or completed checklists and surveys. If you chose a character from a T.V. show or movie, you will need to infer the information in your summary. Remember the information obtained from the indirect assessment should inform the procedures taken in the experimental analysis in Week 8. In this summary, provide examples of approaches you took from the Capella Compassion Code to demonstrate how you took into consideration compassionate assessment methods while gathering this information. You should also present a visual display of the summarized information. Include the completed checklists or interviews as part of your assignment.

Additional Requirements

Your assignment should meet the following requirements:

Written communication: Should be free of errors that detract from the overall message.

APA formatting: References and citations are formatted according to current APA style guidelines. Review Evidence and APA for more information on how to cite your sources.

Resources: A sufficient number of scholarly or professional resources. Resources should include the course texts, and a combination of seminal works.

Font and font size: Times New Roman, 12-point.

Present ideas in a clear, logical order appropriate to the task. Identify the issue or problem under consideration. State conclusions or solutions clearly and precisely. Identify the problem to be solved.

Project 1: Capture the Flag (CTF) Write-Up

The individual CTF challenge is made up of 100 challenges separated into 10 categories of 10 challenges. You may choose which challenges you want to attempt and may attempt multiple challenges from the same category. Once you have attempted any of the 10 questions out of the 100, proceed to the CTF Challenge Write-Up. For this Project:

Review the Capture the Flag (CTF) Challenges and pick 10 to solve.
You can check your answers with the “CTF Answer Checker” in the quizzes section of the course
You can keep submitting your CTF answers until you get 10 correct
This will not affect your assignment or course grade

When you have attempted 10 challenges:
Follow the instructions in the Capture the Flag (CTF) Write-Up Template to answer follow-up questions on your CTF experience
For the Write-Up, you should list the 10 challenges you attempted and explain at least 2 challenges that you actually solved to complete the assignment
You do not need 10 “correct” solves; rather, focus on what you learned from the challenge(s) you solved and also those you did not solve

How Will My Work Be Evaluated?

A cybersecurity CTF (Capture the Flag) is a competition that tests your ability to apply skills that you have learned in this and other related courses to solve cybersecurity problems. These competitions will allow you to demonstrate your ability to apply your skills and knowledge to real-world problems that you will encounter in your tasks as a cyber analyst.

Employers encourage CTF participation because it will help employees improve their analytical skills. Companies often use these competitions as recruitment events for cyber talent. The ability to solve these types of cyber challenges will directly translate to the ability to perform well on the job. During an interview, you can mention that you have participated in an individual CTF within this course.

The solutions to the CTF questions represent just one aspect of how you will be evaluated. Your written submission, which will discuss the problems solved and the strategies you used to solve them, will not only allow you to present clear ideas and conclusions but will also allow you to reflect on those approaches so that when you are confronted with similar situations in the workplace, you will be able to respond with the benefit of your experience.

The following evaluation criteria aligned to the competencies will be used to grade your assignment:

1.1.3: Present ideas in a clear, logical order appropriate to the task.
2.1.1: Identify the issue or problem under consideration.
2.3.1: State conclusions or solutions clearly and precisely.
10.1.1: Identify the problem to be solved.
12.2.3: Determine the appropriate system category.
13.1.1: Create documentation appropriate to the stakeholder.

Should you do the project based on the NPV analysis? If the project can be sold/abandoned for a resale value of $100 million next year, what is its value in terms of the decision tree analysis (DT)?

DISCUSSION QUESTION

A project has a present value (PV) of $100 million today and a 50% probability to be worth either $130 million or $90 million next year. Assume that the WACC is 10%, the simple annual risk-free rate is 4%, and the project costs $103 million today.

  1. Should you do the project based on the NPV analysis?
  2. If the project can be sold/abandoned for a resale value of $100 million next year, what is its value in terms of the decision tree analysis (DT)?
  3. If the project can be sold/abandoned for a resale value of $100 million next year, what is its value in terms of the real option analysis (ROA)?
  4. Why is the DT value different from the ROA value?

Discuss the representation of race/ethnicity and the city in up to two texts, at least one of which must have been studied on the unit.

 Race/ethnicity and the city

Discuss the representation of race/ethnicity and the city in up to two texts, at least one of which must have been studied on the unit.

Suppose the expected continuously compounded (annual) rate of return on the project is 20%. What is the annualized volatility if the technical experts and management provide only the guessed probability, say 10%, for the PV exceeding $350 million in four years?

ASSIGNMENT

You are a project manager and need the volatility to evaluate a major project for your company. The project has a value of $100 million today.

  1. The technical experts and management believe, with 95% confidence, that the project should be worth $350 million or $50 million in 4 years, what is the annualized volatility?
  2. Will the answer in part 1 overestimate or underestimate the volatility if the experts and management are in fact only 90% confident?
  3. Suppose the expected continuously compounded (annual) rate of return on the project is 20%. What is the annualized volatility if the technical experts and management provide only the guessed probability, say 10%, for the PV exceeding $350 million in four years?

Visit a Fine Arts Museum and review several art works on exhibit. Give a critique of the art works you have selected from your visit.

Event/Museum Presentation

You will visit a Fine Arts Museum and review several art works on exhibit. Some examples of a Fine Arts Museum include: Museum of Fine Arts Houston, The Menil Collection, Bayou Bend Collection, Houston Museum of African American Culture, and The Rothko Chapel. Create a visual presentation (include photos, video clips and/or sound, if possible) of your experience and critical analysis, then post it in the event presentation assignment folder. You will be answering questions from your classmate’s when you present your presentation to the class. Remember this assignment is worth 10 percent of your final grade.

In your presentation, you will give a critique of the art works you have selected from your visit. For our purposes, your critique will be a written presentation used to analyze, describe, and interpret the works of art in your presentation. There are four major areas of art criticism: description, analysis, interpretation, and evaluation. These areas are listed below along with some questions for you to think about before, during and after attending your event. Your critique/presentation should cover each of these areas. Although every question may not pertain to the event you attend, you should use these as a base for your critique. You may feel the need to add questions to each area based on the event you attend.

Explain the test for frustration of contract and provide some examples of how it might arise in the employment setting. What must an employer prove to persuade a court that a contract has been frustrated due to the employee’s illness?

DISCUSSION QUESTIONS

Last year, County Beer Company hired Bridget Dortman as a beer maker after she graduated from college with a diploma in Brewing Sciences. As a beer maker, Bridget learned the formula and process used to make the popular County Beer Ale. One day, Amanda Wellington, the new human resources manager, noticed when going through personnel files that there was no signed employment contract for Bridget. She asked the owners about this, and they told her they must have forgotten to get Bridget to sign. So, Amanda prepared a standard employment contract and presented it to Bridget to sign. Bridget read the contract and noticed a non-competition clause which stated that Bridget could not work for another beer company in Alberta for a year after her employment ended with County Beer. Bridget thought that was unfair, but because Amanda told her that all employees must have a signed contract, she signed the contract. Two years later, Bridget quit County Beer and accepted a job as a beer maker at Northern Brewery, a small micro-brewery located in the north of Alberta, nearly 500 kilometres from County Beer. Assume that County Beer launches a lawsuit against Bridget for breaching the non-competition clause in the employment contract and that Bridget comes to you for legal advice. What would you argue on behalf of Bridgett in her defense?

Explain the test for frustration of contract and provide some examples of how it might arise in the employment setting. What must an employer prove to persuade a court that a contract has been frustrated due to the employee’s illness?

What is the difference between compensatory and aggravated damages? Explain the circumstances under which a court might order aggravated damages in a wrongful dismissal lawsuit and provide some examples.

Which of the following scenarios are examples of direct discrimination, and which are examples of indirect or systemic discrimination? What prohibited ground(s) might apply in each case?

  • A rule requires all employees to stand for their entire seven-hour shift.
  • A women’s prison advertises jobs for “female prison guards.”
  • A bar hires only women to be servers and only men to be kitchen staff.
  • An airline requires pilots to retire at age 60.
  • An employer stipulates that all employees must be able to carry 20-kilogram boxes from one side of the factory to the other several times per day.

What must an employee demonstrate to establish a “prima facie” case of discrimination? If an employee can demonstrate this, does it mean that the employer has violated human rights legislation? What could be an employer’s defense?

Identify, specifically, the strengths of your topic and what some weaknesses are. Drawing on various sources, explain the details of your topic.

Discussion Essay

There are three parts to this requirement.

  1. You will complete an outline for your paper that will serve as your basis for writing your research paper. Be as detailed as possible, using an outline format. Be sure to include references.
  2. You will post your outline in the Week 6 discussion area. Classmates will have the opportunity to review and recommend changes or additions to your outline.
  3. By Sunday, you will consider those suggestions and revise your outline, then submit it to the assignment link.

Instruction

In this course, we look at a variety of different interview techniques and styles. We also look at the different kinds of perspectives on ethical issues and how they fit into properly conducting interviews.

Identify, specifically, the strengths of your topic and what some weaknesses are. Drawing on various sources, explain the details of your topic. Assume I know nothing about this topic and share your research on it with me. Why is it important? What have you learned? What are the Pro’s and Con’s? When would this be used? What is the history on this topic?

Research papers are generally divided into two main categories: informative or argumentative. Informative papers generally demonstrate your understanding of a subject, simply reflecting what information is out there. Or you can choose to write an argumentative paper. You could information, offering commentary and opinions though taking no clear position, or you may offer a solution to a problem or argue that a law is having an unwanted effect.

The more specific you can be the better, and feel free to include examples that will strengthen your account.
