University values diversity

The University values diversity, broadly defined to include a diversity of experiences, perspectives, backgrounds, and talents. Enrolling a diverse community of scholars interested in learning with and from each other fosters discussion and discovery inside and outside of the classroom. Share briefly how you might contribute to, or benefit from, our community of scholars. Why are you interested in ABC University?

Explain why your source is valuable to a student of hospitality and to the final project – and use criteria to evaluate the sources, including objectivity, currency, accuracy, reliability, and relevance – and also be able to identify any issues of concern with that particular source.

Hospitality Career – Industry segments

Instructions
For this assignment, you will be preparing an annotated bibliography that lists four different academic sources from the Trefry online library. The purpose of an annotated bibliography is to help you start researching for your final project early on, to help you get comfortable in the Trefry Library, and to help you learn how to evaluate sources for your academic projects. You will be using the Trefry Library to search and identify four different valid academic resources. You should find resources that will provide a definition of four different hospitality industry segments: Foodservice/Restaurant, Lodging/Hotel, Travel/Tourism, and Event Planning. include an evaluative annotation for each resource. This should give a reason why this particular source is a valid and accurate quality source. The focus of the annotation should be on the description and evaluation of the source. You will need to explain why your source is valuable to a student of hospitality and to the final project – and use criteria to evaluate the sources, including objectivity, currency, accuracy, reliability, and relevance – and also be able to identify any issues of concern with that particular source.

To summarize – you will have four entries for your annotated bibliography – one for each of the four industry segments identified above. Each entry will have a citation, a definition of the industry segment based on the information in the source, and a 100 – 200 word annotation evaluating the source.

MathLab

1.0 Instructions

Write MATLAB code to complete the following assignment. Make sure the code includes all required elements for proper code (e.g., header, problem statement, variable list, housekeeping commands, comments, assumptions).

2.0 Assignment

You have been given cooling data for many different spheres in an Excel workbook named “Cooling Data.xlsx”. The two worksheets are “Information” which contains the material name of the sphere and a formatting code, and “Data” which contains pairs of rows where the first row is the cooling time in minutes [min] and the second row is the difference in temperature between the object and the room in degrees Celsius [°C]. The order of the paired rows of data match the order of the material names in the other worksheet.

You should write a program that will read in the data from the workbook and give the user two options (1) create a summary plot that contains all the experimental data or (2) create a detail plot of an individual data set with the experimental data, theoretical trendline, and trendline equation. At the end of the program, the user should be asked if they want to create a new summary plot, detail plot, or end the program. Details for each of these steps is given below.

2.1 Importing Data. Read both worksheets from the Excel workbook into MATLAB storing the “Information” worksheet as a table, and the numeric data in the “Data” worksheet as a matrix.

2.2 First Choice. The user should be presented with the following dialog box. If the user does not select one of the two options, a warning should appear to tell the user they did not make a valid selection and the dialog box should reappear. This should happen as many times as necessary until a selection is made by the user.

Hint: take a look at the isempty function.

2.3 Summary Plot. If the user selects the summary plot, the program should plot all the data set pairs on a new figure. Plot only the experimental data, do not add trendlines. Each data set should be formatted using the specified format codes listed in the workbook, and a legend should be included to identify all the data sets by their material name. This should work no matter how many data sets are in the workbook so do not hardcode! The figure should include all proper plot elements, including a title. The x axis should be displayed from 0 to 10 minutes and the y axis should be displayed from 0 – 100°C.

2.4 Detail Plot. If the user selects the detail plot, the program should allow the user to select a material corresponding to a data set from a list. If the user does not make a selection, display an error message and terminate the program. Then for material selected by the user, create a new figure and plot the experimental data set using the specified formatting in the workbook, the trendline for that data set, and trendline equation. The color of the trendline and the border color of the equation should match the experimental marker color (Note: color will always be the first letter in the format pair). The figure should include all proper plot elements, including a title which should be the name of the material selected. The x axis should be displayed from 0 to 10 minutes and the y axis should be displayed from 0 – 100°C.

2.5 Choice to Repeat. After the selected plot has been created, the user should be presented with the following dialog box (note that it is different than the original dialog box). If the user does not select one of the three options, a warning should appear to tell the user they did not make a valid selection and the dialog box should reappear. This should happen as many times as necessary until the user makes a selection. If they select Summary or Detail the program should repeat and if they select Stop the program should end

What patterns in the Pascal’s Triangle are discussed in chapter VIII? What are pictograms are illustrated or discussed chapter VIII?

The Genesis of Mathematical Story-telling

Read chapters VIII & IX of God’s Own: The Genesis of Mathematical Story-telling and watch the ACE video on Ndebele Doll Making in the course materials section of Blackboard.

b. What patterns in the Pascal’s Triangle are discussed in chapter VIII? Do not just state, also illustrate. You must give at least two patterns and explain why you chose those patterns instead of others you could choose. The entries in Pascal’s Triangle are the coefficients in a Binomial Probability Distribution, which is a special type discrete probability distribution. They are also combinations in counting the number of arrangements of things were the order is unimportant.

c. What are pictograms are illustrated or discussed chapter VIII? Do not just state, also illustrate. You must give at least two pictograms and explain why you chose those pictograms instead of others you could choose. A pictogram is a graphical presentation that conveys meaning through pictorial resemblance to physical objects.

d. Using the algorithm given in chapter IX for computing the Hidden Passion Number, prove that the Hidden Passion Number (modal number) for God’s Own is 5. (To prove this, you must create a frequency distribution of the different letters in NKECHINYERE MADONNA ADELINE AGWU and show that the #5 has the greatest frequency).

e. Construct an Ndebele Doll of God’s Own decorated with at least two of the pictograms in (c) above, at least two patterns in (b) above, and the Hidden Passion # of 5 in (d) above. Take pictures of your Ndebele Doll to show your pictograms, patterns and Hidden Passion #.

f. Construct a spreadsheet of the materials needed to create an Ndebele doll with unit costs and appropriate NYS state sales tax. Based on the unit cost of materials, NYS sales tax for materials, and the unit cost of labor to create one Ndebele Doll, determine the cost of creating a set of twelve disciples of Ndebele dolls of God’s Own to give as a kwanza gift to twelve orphan children in Jacob’s House in Agbakoli Alayi, Abia State, Nigeria.

g. Create a power-point or video or any type of presentation of b-f above and upload your presentation in the discussion board created for this.

Submit via Blackboard a TYPED, double-spaced, reaction paper. Utilize the introduction paragraph for a brief summary of points covered in the reaction, followed by the reaction section based on your thesis statement.

Female Circumcision

REACTION PAPERS
For articles assigned, students will submit via Blackboard a TYPED, double-spaced, reaction paper. The student will utilize the introduction paragraph for a brief summary of points covered in the reaction, followed by the reaction section based on his/her thesis statement.

A thesis of your reaction paper will be due before the assignment due date. An opinion essay exists to prove your main point – your thesis. Students must include the thesis (main point of their reaction paper) as well as at least 3 points to support their claims. The only source to be used is the assigned reading. NO outside sources should be utilized for reaction papers/thesis statements… The thesis statement need only be your main idea and three bullets (no quotes). No additional material or formatting is necessary.
When constructing the final reaction paper, your thesis should be clearly stated in your opening paragraph. Don’t leave the reader to guess what your position is on the issue – make a clear stand! Next, develop your argument in the body of your essay using the 3 points previously chosen.

The article has been provided for you in the images please DO NOT USE any outside sources.
Thesis statement =Female circumcision should be illegal because it violates women right to choose
1. Female circumcision can be considere a form of child abuse and violence
2. Some centuries in African have medically malpractices procedures by proceeding without anesthetics which can lead to fatal loss or even death
3. Female circumcision can lead to complications like hemorrhage , infections, and excessive amount of pain to women.

Is the evaluation question clearly written and easy to understand? If not, why? Are the methods described in enough detail that someone else performing the work would know exactly what to do? If not, what details are missing?

Peer review

FEEDBACK INSTRUCTIONS

Write brief answers to the following questions about each student’s draft paper:

  1. Is the evaluation question clearly written and easy to understand? If not, why?
  2. Are the methods described in enough detail that someone else performing the work would know exactly what to do? If not, what details are missing?
  3. Would completing the methods described provide a strong, credible answer to the evaluation question? If not, why? For example, is there important evidence (data) that would be missing?
  4. Do the methods seem feasible? For example, is the desired data accessible? Would the author have time to complete the methods?
  5. What argument in section 5 (relevance) will the intended readers find the most persuasive explanation of why the evaluation is needed?
  6. Overall assessment
    • What is the strongest element of the draft?
    • What would be the single most useful revision the author could make?

Do you think that the events that happen in the book could happen? Or are they not likely to happen to that degree? Have they happened? Is it important to deal with? How do we deal with it? Ignore it?

Book burning

Relate to book burning in the past and now compared to in the book and how the writer sends a warning

Here is the assignment:
Option one: You will take this novel and research the banning of books whether current or in the past. Do you think that the events that happen in the book could happen? Or are they not likely to happen to that degree? Have they happened? Is it important to deal with? How do we deal with it? Ignore it? Stand up against book banning? These are some questions to think about as you begin to research your paper.
As you write this paper, remember that you cannot use first person. Use words like people, readers, others, and so on. Think about the books in your life

After watching the films, research one African American actor/actress that has made an impression of you.

African American Film Stars

For this assignment, after watching the films, research one African American actor/actress that has made an impression of you. This person does not have to be well know, can be from film or stage, but is someone you enjoy watching their craft.
