Cloud-based Information Management System

Developing or updating an information system is not only a technical challenge; in fact, it’s also a whole business package. Therefore, it will be advantageous for you to search and evaluate the business, technical, and soft skills (interpersonal and intrapersonal) needed to complete a productive information system. As a part of the course requirements, you will perform a systems analysis and design on a business or operation. You are encouraged to start thinking about your project from the first day of class. Please note that this class is one of the most important classes in the CIS curriculum. Many of the skills that you have acquired thus far will be applied here.

Regardless of your topic, you must complete the first three phases of the system development life cycle (SDLC) process:
1. Analysis of the business case
2. Systems analysis a. Requirements modeling b. Data and procedures modeling c. Object modeling
3. Systems design a. Input design b. Output design c. User interface

Listed below are two possible approaches to the completion of the project. Once you choose an approach for your project, you must send your project choice to the instructor by email no later than Sunday 11:59 PM EST/EDT of Module 1. The project will utilize structure analysis as the preferred methodology. The final outcome is expected to be submitted as a PDF file.

Project 1: Cloud computing has become a viable and competitive option to the client/server networking model due to its lower cost, scalability, and agility. A local business in your town has asked you to develop a full plan, an analysis to determine the requirement and a design to specify the input, output, and processing prerequisites. Since you are a knowledgeable systems analyst, you have decided to take the job. You understand all the benefits that come along with cloud computing. To assure a functional development life cycle, you have also decided to point out any negative issues with cloud computing such as security, untested new technologies, and training requirement. You are aware that it should take no more than seven weeks to complete the first three phases of SDLC.

You describe the system analysis phase activities by:
1. Listing and describing system requirements including inputs, outputs, processes, performance, and controls.
2. Using fact-finding techniques, including: interviews, documentation review, observation, questionnaires, sampling, and research.
3. Defining total cost of ownership (TCO).

Finally, you need to:
1. Design a successful interface design
2. Design effective source documents and forms
3. Describe output and input controls and security Software required to complete the project include MS Word, MS Excel, PowerPoint, Visio (or similar package), MS Project, and a statistical package. You may use trial versions of MS Project and Vizio. When using Visio, MS Project, or similar software, ensure that you publish any work as either an image file (.jpeg, .png, etc.) or a pdf before incorporating it into your course project. This is to ensure that your instructor can view/grade your project.

What is its potential impact on your future workplace? Reflect on the topic’s relevance for you in your future career.

Topic_Option 1

Religious issues in your future career (LO 1.3, 2.1). Do a quick Google search for religious issues in your career (health and wellness). If you’re not sure of your career pathway as yet, search for a religious topic relating to a career that interests you. You can take from popular articles (Time, The New Yorker, The Atlantic, etc.)

Do a brief analysis of the related field (ex. if you plan on being a nurse, your field would be medicine; a social worker would be sociology; business would be economics, etc.), and its relationship to religion. How has your particular field helped contribute to the understanding of religion?
Give a brief summary of the issue.

Develop a web-based project to maintain security groups and their members in order to apply system security policy.

Website Development

Assignment description

Develop a web-based project to maintain security groups and their members in order to apply system security policy. The system user could sign in as an employee, or system administrator.

Phase 1 (GUI)  [30 marks]

At phase 1, develop the client-side interface in such a way that could access the system via web browser while the system administrators should access the system via a java application.  [5 marks]

Ensure that the following tasks are properly provided: [25 marks]

For employee users

  1. After a successful login process the employee should be able to view all his access rights from different groups. The members, groups and associated security rules are, previously saved as JSON file(s) in the server, should be retrieved and displayed.

For system administrators:

  1. After a successful login process, system administrator should be able to view all available security groups.
  2. System administrator should be able to add, delete or modify groups and their members and access rights.
  3. System administrator should be able to search for security rules by resources, access rules, groups, and members.

Hint:Provide the necessary attributes and GUI interfaces and use the necessary communicating protocol.

Phase 2 (Server-side service) [60 marks]

At phase 2, develop web-side services using the JAVA programming languages. For each task required in phase one, you should provide a website service using JAVA and provide the required security for your services to grant access only to authorized users.[each 10 marks]

Here are some details regarding the functionality of some services:

  • View all groups and their members: this service should retrieve groups and their members along with stored rules on the server-side that exists in a file (JSON format).
  • Add a group/member: this service should add a group/member to a file; stored as JSON. If the group/member with the same specifications has been previously added, an error message should be displayed and the new group/member should not be stored.
  • Delete a group/member: this service should update the various associated file(s).
  • Modify a group data: this service should update the corresponding files with the new information received from client side which could be the members of the group or group access rights.
  • Search for security rules: this service should enable the system administrator to search for search for security rules by resources, access rules, groups, and members..
  • View all security rules: this service should retrieve stored rules on the server-side that exists in a file (JSON format).

Hint:Use the appropriate presentation format to save and read the necessary attributes to and from file.

Phase 3 (Using Cloud services) [10 marks]

The system is to be deployed over the Cloud for saving organization the cost of servers and other equipment and make use of remote resources. Answer the following with justification

  1. Which cloud deployment model should be used
  2. Which cloud services should be used

Instructions:

  1. Submit two files
    1. one zip file containing all the project’s folders, assuming that you are using NetBeans to develop your TMA, then you are required to send the whole project folder as a single zip file.

Use the following format to name your zip file:

TM352-TMA-Fall-22_23-Branch-StudentName-ID

  1. Put in a word file
    1. codes of client side, the operations of the web services as well as screenshots after running each service.
    2. needed xml files.
    3. answers of phase 3.

Use the following format to name your word file:

What is the minimum number of equally sized square panels that are required to line the interior of the building? Explain your answer.

Algorithms & Data Structures

Assessed Exercise 2 2

  1. (a) [4]Show that if n divides m where m and n are positive integers greater than 1, then a ≡ b (mod m) implies a ≡ b (mod n) for any positive integers a and b.

(b) [3]Show that a·c ≡ b·c (mod m) with a, b, c and m integers with m≥2 does not imply a ≡ b (mod m).

(c) [3]Using the Euclidean Algorithm, find gcd(3084, 1424). Show your working.

  1. [5]A company has a contract to cover the four walls, ceiling, and floor of a factory building with fire-retardant material. The building is rectangular where of width 280m, length 336m and height 168m. Square panels can be manufactured in any size of whole metres. For safety reasons, the building must be covered in complete panels (i.e. panels cannot be cut). What is the minimum number of equally sized square panels that are required to line the interior of the building? Explain your answer.
  1. [5]Prove that least significant digit of the square of an even integer is either 0, 4, or 6.

Hint: considering splitting into cases where integers are of the form a·k+b or −(a·k+b) for k ∈ N where a and b are fixed for a given case, b varies over the cases and the least significant digit of the integer depends on only b.

Note: the least significant digit of an integer is the digit farthest to the right in a integer. For example, the least significant digits of 1007 and 26 are 7 and 6 respectively.

  1. [5]Use mathematical induction to show that for any n ∈ N, if n ≥ 2, then nY

i=2

1 − 1

i2

= n+1

2·n .

  1. [5]Use mathematical induction to show that 2 divides n2 − n for all n ∈ N.
