Create a 1-2 page single-spaced Analysis of Research abstract published qualitative scholarly article related to your mock main topic/research question from week 1.

Writing Scholarly Abstracts

For this week, focus on writing a scholarly abstract of a qualitative journal. More information about writing an abstract can be found via the web resource “Writing Scholarly Abstracts.”

Create a 1-2 (more is fine) page single-spaced Analysis of Research abstract published qualitative scholarly article related to your mock main topic/research question from week 1.

Brevity and being concise are important as this analysis is intended to be a brief summation of the research.

Each abstract must therefore consist of the following in this order:

Bibliographic Citation – use the correctly formatted APA style citation for the work as the title of your abstract, displaying the full citation in bold font.

Author Qualifications – name and qualification of each author conducting the research

Research Concern – one paragraph summary of the reason for the overall research topic

Research Purpose Statement AND Research Questions or Hypotheses – specific focus of the research

Precedent Literature – key literature used in proposing the needed research (not the full bibliography or reference list)

Research Methodology – description of the population, sample, and data gathering techniques used in the research

Instrumentation – description of the tools used to gather data (surveys, tests, interviews, etc.)

Findings – summation of what the research discovered and the types of analysis that were used to describe the findings (tables, figures, and statistical measures)

In addition to structurally mapping out the genogram, you will write a brief synopsis describing what transactional and generational patterns, behaviors, beliefs and norms you became aware of when analyzing your genogram. How might these family patterns, behaviors, beliefs, norms impact your practice with families today and in the future?

Family Systems: Genogram Project

Using family:

Mothers Father: Richard O’Neil
Mothers Mother: Francina Golden

Fathers Father: Rufus Cavallo
Fathers Mother: Unknown

Mother: Corrine O'Neil
Father: Ralph Cavallo

(Kids in order of oldest to youngest)
Richard (no kids)
Susan (no kids)
Maria (no kids)
Daniel (Rebekah, Cameron)
* Me* Michael (Brian)

Family of Origin Project:

The purpose of this project is to increase self-awareness of the impact of your family of origin on your work with families and to give you experience in using tools from various models to assess and intervene in family dynamics. This project involves doing your family genogram and an eco-map. You will construct a three-generation genogram of your own nuclear family including your grandparents, parents, siblings, their spouses if applicable and children if applicable and your children if applicable.

Your genogram will include a transactional map with a key that diagrams your family’s relational patterns (i.e. patterns of attachment, cut-offs and conflicted relationships, triangles, sub-systems, alliances, etc). In addition to structurally mapping out the genogram, you will write a brief (300 word) synopsis describing what transactional and generational patterns, behaviors, beliefs and norms you became aware of when analyzing your genogram. How might these family patterns, behaviors, beliefs, norms impact your practice with families today and in the future? If you were to intervene in one family transaction identified in your genogram, what would that be? What specific intervention strategy (from course material) might you “prescribe” to modify this dynamic? Provide your rationale for choosing this intervention strategy.

This is a three part assignment worth 100 points of your grade. You will submit a genogram, and eco map, and a 300 word synopsis. Any missing or incomplete parts will negatively impact your grade for this assignment.

This is a great website for eco maps: https://www.canva.com/templates/?query=ecomaps

If you want free software to do your genogram you may go here: https://genopro.com/archives/ , download the most recent version and upon installation tell it you want the free registration key (the first choice when I downloaded it) and the program is valid for 16 days.

When you submit your genpro genogram you MUST convert it to a pdf. This is really easy. Click on File in the very upper left corner of your genpro genogram, choose print, click on name and scroll until you find "microsoft print to pdf", choose that and click OK. You will be prompted to name and save your document as a pdf. This is the pdf you can upload.

Discuss either: why you chose this topic , why you think this subject is significant or important for people to understand, If and how your research topic changed over time and why.

Rural to Urban Migration

For your final assignment, you will make the results of your scholarly and popular research “public” to your classmates by presenting your findings. You will “present” the results of independent research project to the class (as a 3-5 minute video on Flipgrid).

Then, you will provide peer feedback on the work of two of your fellow students.

  1. Post a video to Flipgrid. Create a Flipgrid for our class, which is a site that allows you to post videos for your classmates to see (you used this at the beginning of the semester for your welcome videos).

With Flipgrid, you can either create a video from within their video creator/editor (it has a lot of similar features to Instagram and Snapchat) or you can upload a video you created elsewhere (like on your phone, in iMovie, or a PowerPoint with voiceover).

  1. Give your video a title on Flip grid that gives your classmates an idea what your topic is about.

Required Components:

  1. Tell us your research topic.

What have you been studying?

In addition, discuss at least one of the following:

Why you chose this topic

Why you think this subject is significant or important for people to understand

If and how your research topic changed over time and why
