Briefly describe humanistic-existential psychotherapy and the second approach you selected.  Explain at least three differences between these therapies. Include how these differences might impact your practice as a PMHNP. Focusing on one video you viewed, explain why humanistic-existential psychotherapy was utilized with the patient in the video and why it was the treatment of choice. Describe the expected potential outcome if the second approach had been used with the patient.

Comprehensive Psychiatric Evaluation Note and Patient Case Presentation

Understanding the strengths of each type of therapy and which type of therapy is most appropriate for each patient is an essential skill of the psychiatric-mental health nurse practitioner. In this Assignment, you will compare humanistic-existential therapy to another psychotherapeutic approach. You will identify the strengths and challenges of each approach and describe expected potential outcomes.

To prepare:

  • Review the humanistic-existential psychotherapy videos in this week’s Learning Resources.
  • Reflect on humanistic-existential psychotherapeutic approaches.
  • Then, select another psychotherapeutic approach to compare with humanistic-existential psychotherapy. The approach you choose may be one you previously explored in the course or one you are familiar with and especially interested in.

The Assignment

In a 2- to 3-page paper, address the following:

  • Briefly describe humanistic-existential psychotherapy and the second approach you selected.
  • Explain at least three differences between these therapies. Include how these differences might impact your practice as a PMHNP.
  • Focusing on one video you viewed, explain why humanistic-existential psychotherapy was utilized with the patient in the video and why it was the treatment of choice. Describe the expected potential outcome if the second approach had been used with the patient.
  • Support your response with specific examples from this week’s media and at least three peer-reviewed, evidence-based sources. Explain why each of your supporting sources is considered scholarly. Attach the PDFs of your sources.

Note: The School of Nursing requires that all papers submitted include a title page, introduction, summary, and references. The Sample Paper provided at the Walden Writing Center provides an example of those required elements (available at http://academicguides.waldenu.edu/writingcenter/templates ). All papers submitted must use this formatting.

What challenges are present in the scenario, and what are some steps that can be taken to address them? What is the relationship between ethics and policy? Do they always match up with one another? If individual ethics do not align with organizational policy, what might be the end result? Support your answer with relevant resources.

Him 500

Consider the following scenarios:

Scenario 1: One of the physicians on staff is telling you about a study that he is doing on his patients. He hopes to have the study published and to receive a grant to expand his research. He offers to hire you to help him with the data collection during your off hours. You accept and begin helping him. You start collecting data. When you access the file the next day, you realize that he has removed a number of patients from the study. You suspect that they were removed intentionally, but you cannot be sure. You put your suspicions aside and proceed with your work and add more patients to the database. A few days later, more patients have been removed from the database. When you do some investigation, you discover that the patients who were removed were sicker and/or had a poor outcome. This is a problem and may prevent the rewarding of the grant money to this project.

Scenario 2: You are traveling with your work laptop to a conference and leave it for five minutes at the airport terminal as you go to the bathroom. You asked your colleague to keep an eye on it, but when you return, your colleague has boarded the plane and taken your belongings. As you look through, you realize your laptop is missing. When you confront your colleague, she says it was just there a moment ago and she is certain she brought it on board with her. Your laptop contains secure information regarding your organization and has remote access to your clinical information system. The policy at your organization for a data breach is to call tech support immediately and report the breach. You think it may just be misplaced and begin looking.

Choose one of the scenarios above and answer the following:

-What challenges are present in the scenario, and what are some steps that can be taken to address them?
-What is the relationship between ethics and policy? Do they always match up with one another?
-If individual ethics do not align with organizational policy, what might be the end result?
-Support your answer with relevant resources.

-In response to your peers, provide a pro or con to your peer’s response, supported by research. Discuss how policies could enable proper ethical responses or how ethics could help define proper policies. Finally, illustrate how you would have handled this situation.

Using references from course and or external literature, demonstrate your mastery of course content and readings by discussing the following: Where you believe where the student is operating within Ehri’s framework; Where you believe the student is operating within the phonological hierarchy; Where within a systematic phonics scope and sequence the student is operating in.

Assignment: Phonics and Spelling Analysis

Purpose:

The purpose of this assignment is to learn and practice how to use informal assessments to guide planning for meaningful instruction. The errors that students commit provide valuable information to guide instruction. You will synthesize your previous learnings and apply this information to your student’s data. This is a critical skill for a structured literacy educator and you will develop this skill using varied information.

Description:

You are asked to administer two informal assessments to your student as well as a phonics inventory. You will then analyze the student’s errors to ascertain what phonemic, orthographic, and/or morphological errors the student requires explicit instruction in.
Use the attached template to complete the assignment (see attached assignment). Here is an exemplar paper (see attached assignment example from a previous semester in which the phonics and spelling analyses were two separate assignments.

Be sure that you have viewed the powerpoint (see attached)

Case Study

Download and print the Core Phonics Inventory (see attached). Watch these videos to determine if the student correctly answered the prompts by watching these two videos.

As additional support, you can use the Core Phonics Assessment (see attached) to analyze the student’s errors from the Core Phonics Assessment which lists the errors in IPA notation.

Narrative Analysis (About 2 pages):

Using references from course and or external literature, demonstrate your mastery of course content and readings by discussing the following:
Where you believe where the student is operating within Ehri’s framework;
Where you believe the student is operating within the phonological hierarchy (Phonological Awareness, Basic Phonemic Awareness, Compound phonemic awareness). Reference your students data from the PAST assessment here as well.
Where within a systematic phonics scope and sequence the student is operating in (Appendix A from Moats; Any systematic scope and sequence you have access to e.g. Wilson Reading; Orton Gillingham; etc.
Specify what you would prioritize for instruction and give provide a description of an explicit and direct instructional activity with 10 phoneme and/or grapheme targets to be included in the explicit instruction activity

So far Galileo and Solar Orbiter have been selected. This is a discussion post so formality and strict adherence to APA does not matter.

Describe one ethical dilemma you struggled with in your life. Put your description in a personal and historical context. Analyze the dilemma by using theoretical tools provided by the text, handouts, or lecture slides. E.g., Schools of ethics or Lonergan’s operations of consciousness, etc.

Ethical dilemma

In a three page paper, no more than 1200 words, no less than 950 words, double spaced, size 12 font, one-inch margins, address the following:

1) Describe one ethical dilemma you struggled with in your life. Put your description in a personal and historical context; in other words, use I statements, and locate yourself within place, time, and relationships. Do not spend more than a page and a half on your description.

2) Analyze the dilemma by using theoretical tools provided by the text, handouts, or lecture slides. E.g., Schools of ethics or Lonergan’s operations of consciousness, etc.

Helpful Hints:
1. Have a concise introduction, no more than one paragraph, no less than three sentences.

2. Clearly, and early on, state your dilemma in one sentence. E.g., “My ethical dilemma consisted of whether or not I tell my friend Emma (use pseudonyms) that her partner Elijah is cheating on her,” or “My dilemma was whether I leave my insurance information on the parked car I hit or whether I drive off,” or “The moral conflict I experienced was whether I report the crime I witnesses or whether I remain silent.”

3. Do not include any irrelevant information – there is not enough space in this short paper. E.g., if it is the first dilemma above, I don’t need to know about Emma’s relationship with her mother, or where she works, or Elijah’s preference for partying (unless it is relevant).

4. Since this is YOUR dilemma, you need to carefully state what YOU chose to do and WHY you chose to do it. This will reveal your preferred school of ethics in this instance. E.g., If you worried that Emma could, with continued sexual activity with her cheating partner, acquire an STD, or that Elijah could bring another life into the world causing Emma emotional and financial stress, then you are clearly using consequentialism. If you worry that your source for the information is unreliable and that Emma will drop you as a friend if you tell her, then also consequentialism. If, on the other hand, you were angered at the cheating and subsequent lying (to your friend by their partner) and your anger was located in the ideal of promise-keeping, a value for truth-telling, and relational fidelity, then you are clearly using Virtue Ethics. Make sure you explain the theory (Lonergan or Schools) you are drawing on and how it applies in detail.

5. Based on thousands of past papers I have read, your first sentence is the most likely sentence to have grammatical or stylistic issues, and of all paragraphs, your first one is the most likely be the least readable. Suggestion: write your introductory paragraph LAST.

6. Finally, come up with a concise summary conclusion about whether you would make the same choice knowing what you know now, or something you learned about your self.
