Description: Understanding common social problems found within the human service field is necessary to be effective as a Human Service Professional. Examples of appropriate topics include poverty, homelessness, child abuse, human trafficking, drug abuse, and domestic violence. Choose a topic that is significant to you in some way. You will submit a one paragraph explanation of your chosen topic for your professor. Your professor will grant permission for the topic or make suggestions with regard to your topic. In the final paper, you will focus on communicating the information you have gathered in a clear and organized manner. Your writing should be driven by the information taken from your research. This is not an opinion paper, but a research paper. Therefore, describe what your expert sources are saying with regard to your chosen social problem. Human Service professionals must show the ability to communicate without bias or personal/editorial opinion. Use headings in the paper to keep your writing (and the reader) on track. As each final paper will be unique, no specific headings can be required. However, the types of questions that might be asked of each topic would include:
What is(are) the definition(s) for this problem?
What are the relevant statistics regarding this social problem?
What is the source(s) of the problem? (Why has this become a problem?)
Who is affected by this problem? (Demographics of the problem)
What legislation is related to this problem and how has it helped/exacerbated the problem?
What solutions are being offered by experts in this area?
What does the Bible say with regard to this problem?
Don’t forget to add a conclusion paragraph that highlights the major findings of the entire paper.
1) Estimate the molecular weights (using Rf values) of the three prominent bands you see in your thrombin digest lane.
2) You have been provided with two results of a MALDI-TOF analysis (pp. 102-103 above).

3) In developing this lab, we had to make a decision on what protease to use to separate our protein of interest from the GST tag. We had a number of proteases to choose from. Copy and paste the amino acids sequence provided (GST+ protein X) into the PeptideCutter tool window (http://ca.expasy.org/tools/peptidecutter/) and look at the following enzymes for cleavage patterns: trypsin and thrombin. Print out your results and answer why you think we chose thrombin over trypsin. Also indicate where thrombin cleaves.

RESEARCH PAPER (100 points)
Each student who desires to earn an A for the semester is required to write a research paper over a psalm from the list of the psalms.
That means, this assignment is optional. If you are fine with less than an A for the semester, you don’t have to write a paper.
Choose a psalm you will be working on, build a strong bibliography that reflects the current Psalms studies, and write an Annotated Bibliography before working on your paper.
The length of the paper should be 8 to 10 pages, double-spaced, with footnotes ideally, but for non-Bible majors, parenthetical notes are acceptable as long as both author’s name and page numbers are included.
Your paper should include a brief (1 page long) introduction to the current Psalms studies (keep in mind that your target audience is fellow students who have not done any academic study of the Psalms and thus have no idea what the paradigm shifts in Psalms studies mean), the genre, structure, and plot of your psalm, its theological teaching, and how it functions in the Psalter (at least a page), specifically in the book in which your psalm is placed.
