What subconscious needs or desires among the audience does the ad seem to be playing upon?

Choose an advertisement that contains at least three or four rhetorical devices or fallacies (but more would be better!), from online, a newspaper or a magazine (in which case you should scan the ad, save it as a PDF, and submit it AS AN ATTACHMENT in the “Comments” section of your assignment)or to include a picture of your advertisement with the assignment, use the “Image” tool available in the text submission box. You can also include it as an image in your assignment submission. You CANNOT use video ads for this assignment if you plan to complete the extra credit opportunity associated with this assignment (explained below). So, if you plan to do the extra credit, you must choose an ad that is an image, not a video. The advertisement must be from 1990 or later (no ads produced before 1990).
Analyze the ad for uses of rhetorical devices or fallacies. Explain which devices you see in the ad, making sure to be specific in your analysis. You must clearly identify the specific parts of the advertisement that you find rhetorical or fallacious.
In addition to identifying any rhetorical devices and fallacies, analyze the ad in terms of the following:
Who is targeted in the ad (who is the target audience?)?
What psychological effect does the ad have on the audience?
What subconscious needs or desires among the audience does the ad seem to be playing upon?

Explain why this object does not meet your preconceived notions about art.

The goal of this assignment is to demonstrate that you can use aesthetic principles in your own reasoning, and to look at an object in a new, perhaps more open-minded, way. Ideally you should learn something about what you value, and gain some insight into how others might perceive the world a bit differently.

1. First, find an object THAT YOU HAVE PHYSICALLY ENCOUNTERED (do not use things from online) that you do not normally consider art, or even aesthetically valuable. You may have encountered this item in a normal daily setting, or in a museum, art store, or other venue.
2. Examine the object for a while, and then write out a brief description of the object (if necessary, take a picture of the object and include that with your assignment, pasting the picture into the submission text box.).
3. Second, indicate (in approximately one or two paragraphs) why you normally would not consider the object art or aesthetically valuable. You should include what your original definition of art is (what do you normally consider art, and why), and you should clearly explain why this object does not meet your preconceived notions about art.
4. Next, try to examine the object in a new way, using the principles of aesthetic reasoning (either functionalist or formalist, but not both). Give an argument, which integrates facts about the object and the aesthetic principles, for why someone could consider the object art or aesthetically valuable. The aesthetic principles you use must be true of the object. You must choose to use either functionalist principles or formalism, but NOT BOTH since functionalism and formalism are incompatible. YOU CANNOT USE, OR EVEN MENTION, THE LAST PRINCIPLE ABOUT “NO ARGUMENT CAN BE GIVEN TO ESTABLISH AESTHETIC VALUE” (since the assignment REQUIRES YOU TO PROVIDE AN ARGUMENT, this last principle is not compatible with the assignment).

6. On a scale of 1 to 10 (1 being very weak, 10 being very strong), what numerical value would you assign to the credibility of the website? Briefly explain your answer.
7. Provide a Works Cited area at the bottom of your essay, in MLA format, to indicate where you found the websites, and any other information pertaining to the websites. You must also cite your sources in the text of your essay, in MLA format.
8. One website has to be weak while the other website has to be strong

Elizabeth Johnson provides three reasons why Christians ought to carry out the quest in the first place. What are they? Do you agree with her reasons?

In Chapter 1 of Quest for the Living God, Elizabeth Johnson provides three reasons why Christians ought to carry out the quest in the first place. What are they? Do you agree with her reasons? She also gives three “ground rules for the journey” in that chapter. Now turning to chapters 2, 4, and 5, please explain how she abides by one of those ground rules in each chapter. You must address each of the three ground rules in your essay. This will require three points (You can do it any arrangement you wish. For example, you could do “ground rule 1” and chapter 4, “ground rule 2” and chapter 2, “ground rule 3” and chapter 5, or any other combination you wish).

In a final paragraph, please name the most valuable thing you learned over the course of the semester. This is worth 10 of the 20 points for the exam, and everyone will earn it simply for writing this paragraph.

Discuss his argument and cite where specific premises are taken from.

-Did the student use standard form?
-Is the paper correctly cited?

Explain in your own words why Hume believes that an appraisal of a person as having a particular virtue or a vice is a matter of having certain feelings, or sentiments, concerning that person’s character.

Explain in your own words why Hume believes that an appraisal of a person as having a particular virtue or a vice is a matter of having certain feelings, or sentiments, concerning that person’s character. In explaining, be sure to (a) briefly explain the understanding of appraisals of virtue that Hume is rejecting, and (b) the role sympathy plays in Hume’s account. Be sure to provide evidence from text as to why the view you are attributing to Hume is his position. (c) Kant invites us to think about morality in a way that differs in several respects from that of Hume. Using Kant’s ideas about morality, explain how Kant could analyze the moral objection to willful murder. As part of your explanation, be sure to identify at least two important differences between Hume and Kant concerning how best to understand why willful murder is morally objectionable. (d) Using one of the differences you have identified, explain which approach you find more plausible. Your explanation should focus on why you take the difference you have identified to be important for offering an intuitively persuasive account of the moral objection to willful murder.

How does understanding the connection between philosophical worldview and research methodology assist in your research approach?

Each of us has unique experiences and perceptions that shape what we believe about the world. These beliefs and underlying assumptions affect our natural approach to research. Some philosophical worldviews are more congruent with qualitative research, while others align with quantitative research. Considering the four philosophical worldviews (i.e. positivism, post-positivism, constructionism, pragmatic in ), please respond to the following:

1. Which philosophical worldview most closely aligns with your perspective and the way that you view problems in the world? How so?
2. How does understanding the connection between philosophical worldview and research methodology assist in your research approach?
3. Compare/contrast research philosophical worldview with that of a Christian worldview. Are there any areas that are problematic or do most philosophical worldviews appear to be congruent with a Christian worldview?
