Explain the distinction between sense experience and emotion.

1. Name three of your hinge beliefs — that is, beliefs that are foundational to your understanding of the world, which you consider to be true and yet can give no justification for. For example, the existence of the external world (e.g. that I’m not in the Matrix) is a hinge belief for most people. There’s no solid evidence in its favor, and yet we assume it to be true.

2. Imagine you’re on a jury and you think the defendant is guilty because they just rub you the wrong way. Further, imagine that they are, in fact, guilty. Would you say that you “know” they are guilty? Explain. You might find that answering this question hard because, on one hand, you have a reason and you are right. Yet on the other hand, your reason for thinking the defendant is guilty is a bad one.

3. Explain the distinction between sense experience and emotion. What are three differences between sense experience and emotion? Why is this distinction important?

4. Many animals experience the world very differently from the way we do. Spiders see through compound eyes, while snails only see light/dark and direction (not shape). Do you think that we humans — of all the animals — perceive the world correctly? Does that fact that various animals see differently mean that we should be distrustful of our sense experiences? Explain. (Check out this link for more on snail consciousness: http://schwitzsplinters.blogspot.com/2018/09/are-garden-snails-conscious-yes-no-or.html.)

5. Do you believe that emotions are an important source of knowledge, like Hume or the ancient Chinese philosophy Mencius? Or are emotions are a threat to knowledge, like Kant, Russell, and Freud believe? Explain your answer using ideas from this chapter.

6. Describe a time when you had a disagreement around moral values. How was the conversation? How could the ideas in this chapter help you talk about values in the future?

7. Watch this video. Would you take the red or the blue pill? What does this distinction mean to you? https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zE7PKRjrid4 Chapter 8 – Tools for Critical Thinking about Justification 8.1-8.5 (pp. 215-242) I attached a copy of the book

Write a 3 page paper comparing/contrasting Christianity and Islam.

In light of your reading in Sire, write a 3 page paper comparing/contrasting Christianity and Islam. What are the central assumptions for each worldview/religion? How are they similar? How do they differ? This paper is informal, meaning that it does not require additional sources. ONLY USE ATTACHED SOURCE: The Universe Next Door. James Sire.

What other observational tools would you use to enhance that material already provided in the data and why?

Developmental Summaries
Students will use the individual data profile assigned to them to create a set of
developmental summaries.
Using the developmental domains as a guide the data will be assessed and compiled
into statements identifying the skills and abilities demonstrated by the child. Students
are encouraged to use the outline provided to organize their statements and to ensure
that a thorough assessment has been completed.
Summary statements can be taken from the various observations with a minimum focus
on the checklists. These can be used to fill in any major gaps in the material but can not
be simply replicated in the summaries themselves.
Summary statements must be prepared using the format discussed in the lessons: refer
to PowerPoint provided for information on how to write the various summaries
Developmental Analysis
Developmental analysis allows the educator to determine where the child is at in all
areas of development. This provides the educator with a thorough understanding of the
child and what his/her learning and developmental needs might be for current and future
planning.
For each summary statement you will need to provide root skill(s) that clearly identifies
the development observed, a reference point and statement to demonstrate how the
two pieces of information compare to each other.
Each summary statement needs to be clearly supported with references to reliable
developmental sources for validity.
Inferences need to be formatted according to outline from the template provided and
lessons readings.
Provide a summary of the child’s assessed areas of developmental strength and current
areas of emerging skill and ability. These will be the foundation of your program
planning for the child and will be required for the Individual Program Plan assignment.
Questions
As a part of the assignment students will include a closing paragraph were they will
answer the following questions:
Were the observations provided clear and well written enough to identify the child’s
developmental skills and abilities?
Were there any areas were further data would be required to more fully assess the
child’s current level of development?
What other observational tools would you use to enhance that material already
provided in the data and why?

Research and develop a homework assignment/learning activity for the content area that will engage the family and/or community.
Your homework assignment/learning activity should include:
• A learning objective describing the desired learning outcome of the activity. (For example, “Students will design and implement a composting program in their community that aligns to the United States Environmental Protection Agency composting guidelines.”)
• In 100-250 words, describe the homework assignment/learning activity, and how the assignment/learning activity engages the family and community.
• Detail how family and/or community can be involved in establishing a positive learning environment, describing collaborative strategies.
Part 2: Reflection
In 250-500 words, summarize and reflect on the homework assignment/learning activity that engages family and/or community.
Address the following:
1. Methods to communicate with families and other stakeholders about the needs of students.
2. Challenges teachers face when creating homework, and activities that engage family and/or community.
3. The importance of engaging family and community in students’ education.
4. How you will deal with concerns or issues with parents and the possible solutions to support positive collaboration.
Support your findings with a minimum of three scholarly resources.

Evaluate how the construction of gender impacted your own life in a positive or negative way.

Collaboration is an important practice, both in your academic and professional career. Anthropologists often collaborate with their colleagues, during research studies, at conferences, etc. This collaboration can lead to substantial anthropological advances and serves as an excellent professional development tool. Throughout this course, you will collaborate with your classmates, as you would with colleagues in the field by sharing ideas, resources, interesting connections to the assigned readings, and general revelations.
You will be required to create a digital scrapbook that will be used throughout the course. This scrapbook is a venue for you to share photos, links to articles, videos, and anything else that may be pertinent to the course. Each week the collaboration focus will be on topics that are relevant to different aspects of your final assignment.
Continue using one of the following options for your digital scrapbook:

She lives in a group home for developmentally disabled adults and has steady employment in the kitchen of a large hospital. She has held this job for six years and seems to be well-liked by her employer. She likes the routine of the job and does not have any interest in learning new skills. She is seeking your services because of her frustration with the group home administrators who have restricted her privileges. It has come to their attention that she is sexually active with a number of men (all of whom are also developmentally disabled) and is not using birth control because she wants to have a baby. The group home administrators do not believe she is capable of raising a child and question her ability to comprehend the decisions she is making. They are restricting her from being able to date until she is willing to use birth control. Ms. Figueroa sees this as a restriction of her rights and is extremely angry and upset. She enjoys the friendship with these men and is lonely and depressed at the thought of staying home all the time.●Identify and discuss the ethical dilemma presented for you in this case and your reasons for it being a dilemma (remember ethical dilemmas are based on your struggle with two opposing values).
