Explain the personality of people who seem oriented toward evil rather than positively-oriented growth.

Theoretical Applications I
All assignments MUST be typed and double-spaced, in APA 7 style and must be written at graduate level English. A brief intro and conclusion should be included. The content, conciseness and clarity of your answers will be considered in the evaluation of your work. You must use and integrate the material presented in the course text and cite your work according to APA format. Use of outside resources can be used to enhance the text information, but cannot replace the text.

Respond to each question in approx 1-page per question.
Total assignment should be 4-5 pages total plus a Title and Reference Page

Do not copy the questions in your responses. See APA style on how to create Topic Headings.  Suggested Topic Headings follow each question.  You may use them or create your own.

Question One: The text discusses three main approaches to personality research:  case studies, experimental studies conducted in laboratory settings, and correlational studies.  If you were to conduct a research study today, which approach would you use and why?
Suggested Topic Heading:   Personality Research

Question Two: It has been said that psychoanalytic theory suffers from a number of cultural biases due to the limitations in kinds of patients seen and the Victorian era from which the concepts were originally derived. Which concepts or parts of the theory do you think could become a particular target for arguments of cultural bias?
Suggested Topic Heading:  Cultural Bias in Psychoanalytic Theory

Question Three: As you will see in subsequent chapters, many personality theorists developed ideas that differed markedly from those of Freud and the various neo-Freudian theorists.  What aspects of Freudian theory would you “least want to lose” in such developments – i.e., which features seem so important that they should be taken into account by any other personality theory?
Suggested Topic Heading: Positive Aspects of Freudian Theory
Question Four: Rogers proposed that the fundamental human motive is self-actualization: a positive, growth-oriented human motive.  That sounds like a very nice idea. And it is easy to think of cases in which people seem to be striving toward self-actualization.  But it naturally raises the question of how, in Rogerian theory, one could explain the personality of people who seem oriented toward evil rather than positively-oriented growth.  In other words, what about Hitler?  Mass murderers? Etc. How could one posit a self-actualization theory in the face of such cases?
Suggested Topic Heading:  Self-Actualization and Evil

How does bias play a positive role in a particular AOK or RLE?

Topic: “Avoiding bias seems a commendable goal, but this fails to recognize the positive role that bias can play in the pursuit of knowledge.” Discuss this statement with reference to two areas of knowledge.

Key words and phrases

Avoiding bias – How is bias avoided in different AOKs and RLEs? In some cases, experimental methodology helps reduce bias.  Public debates are a quite different way to possible avoid bias and both sides have an equal opportunity to present their argument. In some cases, bias is not necessarily something that people try to avoid.

Commendable goal – Why in a particular AOK or RLE is a “commendable” to reduce bias?  Does it lead to more accurate knowledge, for example?  Or does it lead to a more neutral understanding of knowledge that has already been produced?

Positive role that bias can play – How does bias play a positive role in a particular AOK or RLE?  For example, a bias against processed / fast foods may lead a person to better health even with brands / foods they have not tried before.  A bias against a news website that has published a number of false new articles in the past is completely justified.  A quick Google search can lead you to a number of different situations where bias plays a positive role.

Pursuit of knowledge – Make sure it is clear in your RLEs exactly where and what the “pursuit of knowledge” is.  It also needs to be perfectly clear how bias has a positive or negative on the pursuit of knowledge in an RLE.

How can the average long-term care manager use this information in day-to-day decision-making?

Locate and post an article from any official, academic source published in the USA during the last 12 months, that discusses a financial issue related to adult day care, assisted living, or home health care financing (NO articles on nursing homes). Try to choose an article that has practical implications.

The article should not be one assigned in the Classe module reading or one chosen by another student. Do not post a link, but attach the article to your response that anyone can use to access. Provide a brief article summary in the begging of the essay and answer each the following questions:

How does this tie in with your research to date?

How can the average long-term care manager use this information in day-to-day decision-making?

What is the “take home” message?

* Be sure to copy and paste the question before each of your answers to add clarity.

List the six steps involved in the scientific method.

Human Sexuality

Written Discussion 2 – Chapter 2

Based on your current understanding of human sexuality, think about an issue or concern that interests you.  Describe the issue or concern and follow the steps in the scientific method (pp. 32-34), by doing the following:

  • List the six steps involved in the scientific method.
  1. Identifythe research question(s) you would ask.
  2. Review the literature.
  3. Formulatea basic hypothesis.
  4. Describethe population you would need for the project. (Operationalizing variables – How are they going to be measured?)
  5. Determinean appropriate method (e.g., survey, case study). (i.e. collect data)
  6. Visualizeand imagine possible conclusions (e.g. based on answers to your research question). Analyze the data to test the hypotheses.

Who are the stakeholders? Who has a stake in the sheriff’s decision?

The small town of Yellow Falls has had a rash of attacks on young children in the last month. After each attack the sheriff department has conducted long and stressful manhunts. Several days into the last manhunt, they announced that they were closing in on the suspect. Unfortunately, the suspect died shortly before the sheriff’s department was able to arrest him. The sheriff department chose not to notify the media of this fact. They continued to quietly hunt down the suspect. The town began to calm down but then another attack occurred.

The sheriff was not sure what to do. His town was understandably upset. Local citizens began to picket the Sheriff’s office and the newspaper ran multiple op-eds expressing their frustration with his department’s inability to protect the innocent children.

A sergeant approached the sheriff and suggested that they pick up the old homeless man who lives outside the city. The sergeant argues that while there is no reason to believe that the homeless man has committed the crimes, if he is arrested and they build a case against him, it is possible that the town will return to normal. Besides, the homeless man has TB and if he is in custody he will receive health care to palliate his disease. It may be possible, he argued, to convince the homeless man to plead guilty in exchange for health care and three meals a day.

Ought the sheriff to agree to arrest the homeless man?

1. Read the case, twice at least. See attached.
2. Respond to each of the writing prompts with complete sentences. Answer each question completely. There is no word count.

1. Is there an ethical issue? If so, identify it here.

2. What else might you want to know about this case?

3. Who are the stakeholders? Who has a stake in the sheriff’s decision? Be as thorough as possible by listing ever possible group of stakeholders you identify.

4. Imagine you are the sheriff. You are up for reelection this year and you are concerned with what is best for you and your career over the long run. This means you are an ethical egoist. Go to the text and follow the steps for resolving this case with ethical egoism.

5. Imagine you are the sheriff. You are up for reelection this year and you are concerned with what is best for your community. This means you are a rule utilitarian. Go to the text and follow the steps for resolving this case with rule utilitarianism.

Identify whether the discrepancy in maintenance needs and the time it takes to resolve issues differs between neighborhoods and whether this difference (if observed) is indicative of inequity in city maintenance.

Your company is a non-profit whose purpose is to advocate for equity in handling and providing long term solutions to city maintenance problems (trash collection, potholes, etc.) in Kansas City, MO.

The goal of this assignment is to identify the areas with a higher number and density of such requests, understand what types of requests are the most common for those areas, and analyze the degree of equity in the way the city addresses the issues in neighborhoods with respect to their socio-economic profiles. To address the latter, your goal is to identify whether the discrepancy in maintenance needs and the time it takes to resolve issues differs between neighborhoods and whether this difference (if observed) is indicative of inequity in city maintenance.

Directions
Use this public dataset on 311 calls: 311 Call Center Service Requests (Links to an external site.). Use appropriate tools (e.g. Python, SAS, Tableau, or a combination of those) to conduct the analysis using the dataset. Once you have identified any areas that have clusters of requests of a certain type, align those areas with the socio-economic profiles of those neighborhoods. To do so you can use any publicly available source (e.g. https://datausa.io/profile/geo/kansas-city-mo/) (Links to an external site.)

Your analysis may combine the use of data analytics tools with manual analysis.

In your report describe the steps you have taken and provide results of your analysis and conclusions on the state of equity in city maintenance.
