Identify a theorist, summarize their theory, and explain the aspects of that theory that relate to the social perspective.
Provide an example of how this social perspective of life-span development applies to your lived experience.
Describe why analyzing the life span from a combined biological, psychological, and social perspective is important.

What thoughts and feelings emerged for you as the interviewer listening to the interviewee discuss their family of origin and childhood experiences? Did this help you to feel closer to the person that you interviewed? Why or why not?

PSY473 Writing Assignment #4

The Adult Attachment Interview (AAI) is a semi-structured interview, used in both clinical and research settings, to determine attachment styles in adulthood based on narratives about childhood experiences. The AAI can be used as a tool in couples’ therapy towards multiple ends: 1) to encourage partners to discuss events about their childhoods which may not have been disclosed before; 2) to assess attachment styles of each partner to better understand relationship issues; 3) to elicit deep emotions in the context of couples therapy and encouraging behaviors to establish each partner as the secure base for the other.

Directions: The goal of the assignment is to experience what it is like to conduct this interview, whether it is with your intimate partner, a close friend or relative, or even a classmate. You may also wish to do this in a “couples’ therapy” format with a couple in your life. The interview typically takes about an hour, but ranges between 45 minutes and an hour and a half. While administering the interview, think about how this could open the door for discussion about important topics in a therapeutic context with intimate partners. Take notes on your “client’s” responses to each question that you can paraphrase later. Once complete, use the scoring guidelines to determine what their attachment style is likely to be. In addition to this, you will construct a narrative discussing what your experience was like as the interviewer, responding to the following prompts:

What thoughts and feelings emerged for you as the interviewer listening to the interviewee discuss their family of origin and childhood experiences? Did this help you to feel closer to the person that you interviewed? Why or why not?
Knowing what you do about attachment styles, the association between adult attachment and maintenance of intimate relationships, and the goals of couples’ therapy, describe how the AAI may help improve relationship dynamics.

This week we are discussing how rambunctious behavior in a child differ from behavior seen in a child with ADHD. I believe that children are naturally rowdy, curious about everything, and rambunctious. They are full of energy and sometimes have trouble staying still for a moment. Playtime and nap time helps mold children and understand there is a time and place for everything. Now other kids can be overly energized, these kids could have behavior issues at school and home. My youngest sister does not have ADHD but she has an intellectual disability. I recall since she was a child that a daycare refused to allow her to return because she would not listen and was causing others to follow too. At home when we tried to teach her things such as the days of the week, she knew better or so she thought. She would throw tantrums, and even ran out of the house before only in her underwear. I think when she was young it seemed like ADHD. “Children with attention deficit hyperactivity disorder have ongoing problems listening to others attending to details in school work and other tasks such as chores and organizing work” (Kearney & Trull, 2018).

I believe she has a mild intellectual disorder. Intellectual disability put you at a “deficit in intellectual functions such as reasoning problem-solving planning abstract thinking judgment academic learning and learning from experience.” (Kearney & Trull, 2018).
I believe early on you can tell that a child is more than just energetic or disobedient. You can definitely notice that something is just not connecting. I do not believe it is ADHD because now she does not have that hyper behavior but she still cannot connect things or have a good understanding. For example, someone says “Hi how are you” My sister: “ I’m okay” and that’s how the conversation ends. Even if you do not care about how the other people are doing. It’s just proper to respond by asking how they are. She also almost got conned out of $10 from a gas station worker. She was going to get quarters to use a vending machine. They said they do not have the change to give her, can she just accept $10 back. She agreed. I had to return to the store to her her $10 back. She did not connect and understand that she was not spending any money there. She was simply changing the money from bills to coins.

Would you punish a misbehaving child who has a developmental disorder such as Asperger’s or autism the same as you would as a “normal” functioning child with misbehavior? As frustrating as it may be dealing with someone who has any disorder I think it would be morally wrong to punish them as you would a normal child. Because for the most part, they do not understand. I think their punishments would always stay at prek level for example: If a child with any disorder is throwing food, no matter the age they would go to bed after dinner no playtime, or no dessert for that day.

In your paper make sure you touch on these principles to help explain this abnormal behavior. Conduct research on it and make sure you include the cover sheet and cited sources pages.

Seven Psychological Perspectives on Abnormal Behavior

Each of the seven major perspectives in psychology emphasizes different factors believed to contribute to abnormal behavior, but in practice they overlap. Consider the phenomenon of compulsive hoarding. Everyone sometimes makes an impulse purchase, and most people are reluctant to discard some possessions that are of questionable value. But when the acquisition of and inability to discard worthless items becomes extreme, it can interfere with basic aspects of living, such as cleaning, cooking, sleeping on a bed, and moving around one’s home. This abnormal behavior is associated with several psychological disorders, but it is most commonly found in people who have obsessive compulsive disorder, or OCD. Review the psychological perspectives below and see how each of the seven major perspectives helps to explain compulsive hoarding.

Sociocultural, Biological, Cognitive, Evolutionary, Behavioral
Psychoanalytic/Psychodynamic And Humanistic

Write down as specifically as you can what your current behavior is and what your desired end goal should be. Do you find that a combination of both intrinsic and extrinsic motives are driving your behavior as you seek to progress from point A to point B? For the goal you’ve selected, do environmental factors outweigh genetic ones in attaining your outcome?

The Major Motives: Food, Love, Sex and Work

Think of something that you’re motivated to accomplish: achieve in school, excel at a sport, improve our love life, change some unhealthy habits. Write down as specifically as you can what your current behavior is and what your desired end goal should be. Do you find that a combination of both intrinsic and extrinsic motives (you must define what they are to be able to answer the question) are driving your behavior as you seek to progress from point A to point B? For the goal you’ve selected, do environmental factors outweigh genetic ones in attaining your outcome? Consult chapter 10 of your etextbook.

If the surviving children were to undergo a psychological evaluation, what factors would be important to consider during the evaluation process? Also discuss risk and resiliency factors. What factors would increase the children’s risk of developing PTSD? And what factors might act as a buffer against the development of PTSD?

Discuss the psychological impact of this tragic event on the surviving children.

Include a discussion of what behavioral indicators and symptoms that you would be looking for to assess PTSD in these children. Keep in mind our discussion of how PTSD presents differently in children than in adults.

How was the self-esteem of the children affected by participating in this study? Why do you think the children’s test scores rose after participating in this experiment? How can you use Piaget’s theory and Kohlberg’s theory to explain the adult and children’s behavior during this study?

A Class Divided: Review

Discuss the stage of Piaget’s development the children in the video are in and provide evidence to support your answer.

Address the following questions in your paper:

How do you see self-fulfilling prophecy and learned helplessness portrayed in this video?

How was the self-esteem of the children affected by participating in this study?
Why do you think the children’s test scores rose after participating in this experiment?

How can you use Piaget’s theory and Kohlberg’s theory to explain the adult and children’s behavior during this study?

Which theory (theories) of personality can help you understand the students’ behavior in this video?

**Find at least one resource to support your answer other than the video.
