Trauma and Stressor-Related Disorders

For this week’s assignment, you will begin by selecting a topic and completing an annotated bibliography. After selecting your topic, identify at least five different scholarly sources that you can use to complete your research paper. Once you’ve identified your sources, you will create an annotated bibliography. An annotated bibliography is a list of the sources you hope to use, followed by a brief (150 words) summary of the content of the source and how you plan to use this for your research.

Describe the ethical issues involved in this situation. Discuss the steps Dr. should take with regard to her discovery of potential ethical concerns. Provide recommendations for the group’s advertising needs that would meet ethical standards.

Ethical issues

Dr. has joined a group practice of psychologists who have asked her to develop her biography to post with her picture on their social media page. They have asked Dr. to reach out to her former clients from her last employer to solicit testimonials. Dr. is very concerned about this request. She was unaware the group practice had a social media page. When she visits the page, she sees several client testimonials for other psychologists in practice, some of which appear to reveal identifying information about the clients.

In 500-750 words:

Describe the ethical issues involved in this situation.

Discuss the steps Dr. should take with regard to her discovery of potential ethical concerns.

Provide recommendations for the group’s advertising needs that would meet ethical standards.

Use two to three scholarly sources to support your claims.

What are some of the obvious ethical problems with Delvin’s study? What are some of the benefits that Delvin will gain in collecting his data this way (think in terms of benefits to society as well as benefits to participants)? Do you feel that the benefits outweigh the risks? Explain.

Ethical Question: The ethical problems with choosing variables?

(taken from Mitchell, Furlong, Lafontana, Jolley, Lovelace & Lovelace (2006). Research, Design and Analysis in Psychology I. Wadsworth; New York, NY.)

Delvin wants to do a study on drug use in college students. He wants to examine whether students are honest in admitting whether or not they do drugs and also if their GPA is affected by their drug use.

To measure drug use, Delvin decides to measure the variable in several different ways. He first asks students in randomly selected courses to fill out a brief questionnaire which asks them questions such as, “Have you ever done drugs?” and “How many drugs do you do in a typical week?” Then, to make sure people are being truthful, he goes to some of the popular raves in the area and inconspicuously observes the number of times a student does drugs. Delvin does the observation over the course of the semester. To measure GPAs, he also asks participants to report on their GPAs, then he verifies whether they are being honest by gaining access to the computer system in the registrar’s office. He wants to see if a student’s GPA decreases after a semester of partying.

Reflection Questions:

1. What are some of the obvious ethical problems with Delvin’s study?

2. What are some of the benefits that Delvin will gain in collecting his data this way (think in terms of benefits to society as well as benefits to participants)?

3. Do you feel that the benefits outweigh the risks? Explain.

What are the strengths and limitations of the program’s processes? Are service users receiving the services they need?

Evaluating Processes and Outputs

Submit a 2-page paper in which you address the following:

Identify the program you selected. With this program in mind, respond to the following questions about effective processes and outputs.

Processes: What are the strengths and limitations of the program’s processes (i.e., the activities that contribute to the objectives or goals of the program)? Examples of processes include how staff communicate with service users and how staff deliver services (e.g., food, housing, mental health/medical care, vocational training, etc.).

Outputs: Are service users receiving the services they need?

Support your Assignment with evidence from the Hart City interface (e.g., community needs assessment, data provided about the program you selected) and with scholarly sources.

Provide a brief outline of your project, Indicate the type of survey you are planning, describe the type of data you will collect and indicate the type of analysis you will undertake. Explain which psychological theories/ models your project relates to.

Survey Project proposal

DE300 Survey Project proposal and Ethical approval form

TMA 03 consists of two parts – a Project proposal and an Ethical approval form – both of which are included in this document. Both parts must be submitted using the eTMA system.

Your tutor will provide feedback on both parts of the assignment and will award a grade for your Project proposal. Your tutor may also require you to make changes to one or both parts of the document before giving approval for you to proceed with your project.

Note that you must obtain your tutor’s signature on the Ethical approval form before you approach participants and/or begin any data collection. Any data collected without approval, will be inadmissible and may lead to you failing DE300. If you make changes to your procedure or sample after obtaining approval, you must consult your tutor, or you will risk losing marks.

You must not collect any data until your tutor has approved your project design.

When you submit your project report as TMA05, you must attach the marked Project proposal and Ethical approval form, approved and signed by your tutor.

Note that while it is essential that you complete your Ethical approval form, it is not graded for assessment purposes.
