Do you believe that women experience pain differently than men? Provide THREE examples in which women experience pain differently than men.

Pain is an unpleasant experience that involves both physical and psychological components. Feeling pain is quite adaptive because it makes us aware of an injury, and it motivates us to remove ourselves from the cause of that injury.

Let’s discuss pain! Do you believe that women experience pain differently than men? Provide THREE examples in which women experience pain differently than men. Were your examples physical examples? Is there a difference between physical pain and emotional pain?

Write a reflection that describes your experience as you take more time for self care. Describe your experience, good times and hard times.

These type of assessments, while not diagnostic in nature, help paint a picture that can aid in identifying ways to take time for yourself.

-Part 1

Reflect on the scoring you gave each category. No need to add up points, this is not a diagnostic tool. It is just a way for you to think about your self care habits. Self care is important not just for clients you may see or work around in the future, it is absolutely important for you as well! Recharging is not just for your phone, you as a human also need to notice when your batteries are running low.

For the reflection portion choose a category of the assessment sheet and write a reflection talking about what you learned about yourself and how you can improve your self care habits.

-Part 2

Use the next month to actually involve yourself in an activity or concept to improve self care. You can chose to download an app that helps you track your chosen activity. At the end of your journey you will write a reflection that describes your experience as you take more time for self care. Describe your experience, good times and hard times.

Examples from previous classes: Drink more water, exercise more, quit smoking, better sleep, meditation/mindfulness.

If you find no aspects of self care that you can improve on then write a reflection describing what that’s like.

-Submission

You will be uploading two files. Part 1 and Part 2, you may choose to submit in the same submission- separate by section.

Note: You should not be submitting this by tomorrow or by the end of the week or even the next. Take the time to read through and really think about the nature of the assignment.

As always everything shared is strictly confidential and will not be shared with anyone outside of you and me.

Determine which skills you would need to lead this process: How would you acquire those skills?

Using your previously identified stakeholders, write a 1-3 page paper in which you address the following:
•Analyze the votes of the stakeholders for or against the change. ◦What were the reasons for taking their particular positions?.
◦What pressures, obligations, or beliefs informed their votes?.
•Describe how you might engage and negotiate with them. ◦What specific advocacy skills would you use and why? Base this part of your discussion on the NASW Code of Ethics and analyze how ethical practice is important and can impact the outcome..
•Determine which skills you would need to lead this process: ◦How would you acquire those skills?.
◦What resources would you use?.

Additional Requirements
•Follow current edition APA style and format throughout, including title and reference pages (not included in page count)..
•Include 3–5 properly cited references from current, scholarly sources..
•Font: Times New Roman, 12 points..

What recommendations would you provide to the researchers for improving the ethical nature of the study if it were replicated in the future?

First, choose a research article that reports the results of an original research study. Choose an article published within the last five years.

What did the research study entail? Provide a brief summary of the purpose of the research, methodology, and results.
How do the ethical standards of Section 8 of the Ethics Code apply to the research you reviewed? Use the following questions as a starting point. Then, examine further the degree to which the researchers addressed these and other aspects of the research in accordance with the ethical standards.
Were humans or animals involved in the study?
What did the informed consent process entail?
Were the participants recorded in any way?
How was the anonymity of participants maintained?
Did the researchers use deception?
Was the study reviewed through an IRB process?
Were participants harmed in any way?
Overall, how ethical would you rate the study?
What recommendations would you provide to the researchers for improving the ethical nature of the study if it were replicated in the future?

Describe what a “cocktail party phenomenon” is, as investigated in the present study.

1.Describe what a “cocktail party phenomenon” is, as investigated in the present study. With regards the three main purposes of this study described towards the end of the Introduction, what is new about this study that was not addressed in the previous studies of the cocktail party phenomenon? (4marks, limit 100words)

2.Summarizethe experimental designin sentences (not bullet points). You must mention: a) the participants, b) what the participants were asked to do (i.e., what was the main experimental task), c) what were the two independent variables (IV)–i.e., what were manipulated -and the levels (conditions) within each IVs, making clearhowthey were manipulated, d) the dependent variable used to measure the cocktail party phenomenon. (4 marks, limit 200words).

3.Describe how the classic cocktail party phenomenon relates to the individual difference in working memory (make clear which graph/table you are referring to, and the statistical support for the relationship). (3 marks, limit 50 words)

4.In addition to the results you described in Q3, the authors also reported an analysis of shadowing errors. Describe the main pattern of results depicted in Figure 1, and

2the authors’ interpretation of what they tell us about the role of the attentional system in the cocktail party phenomenon(4marks, limit 130 words)Note on Bayesian statistics: Bayes factor (BF) is a measure of relative amount of evidence for two mutually exclusive hypotheses. BF10is the ratio of evidence for Hypothesis 1 (H1, alternative hypothesis) against Hypothesis 0 (H0, null hypothesis), and can vary between 0 to infinity. BF10of 1 means equivalent amount of evidence for the two hypotheses, BF10between 1 to 3 is considered to provide anecdotal evidence (not much to write home about) for H1(and against H0); BF10of 10 or more is considered to provide strong evidence for H1(and against H0). BF10= 1/BF01, so BF10of .1 is equivalent to BF01of 10 (i.e., strong evidence for H0and against H1).

Can you think of other psychoanalytic principles that might help to explain Bruce Wayne’s behavior? How might other approaches to personality psychology explain Bruce Wayne’s transformation into Batman?

Week Five Discussion Assignment
1. By the due date, post your response to one of the following three questions on the
discussion page. Please remember to label your initial posting with your name and
the question you are answering (i.e., Dr. Brandhorst – A). This will help organize the
postings for the class and inform your fellow classmates on which question is being
answered.
Video A: A Psychoanalysis of Bruce Wayne (Batman)
Link: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=eRlbV8tNILg
Description: In this clip, Emory psychologist Jared Defife takes a psychoanalytic approach to understanding the fictional character of Batman. He discusses how
traumatic events that Bruce Wayne experienced during his childhood may have
influenced his later development into Batman. He uses psychodynamic principles to
explain how someone’s deepest fears can be transformed into their greatest
strengths.
Questions:
Can you think of other psychoanalytic principles that might help to explain Bruce Wayne’s behavior? How might other approaches to personality psychology
explain Bruce Wayne’s transformation into Batman?
Video B: Hypnosis and Conflict
Link: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=RbJRX0NRIIc
Description: Researchers provide new evidence that hypnosis may actually alter the
brain activity that’s behind certain ingrained mental processes. This ScienCentral
News video has more on the subject.
Questions:
Why do you think some people might be more susceptible to hypnosis than
others? Why do you think hypnosis reduced conflict in this study? Do you think
these findings could be applied to other, more complex kinds of conflict?
Video C: Voting Influence
Link: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=OnUs-bQP_Cg%C2%A0
Description: According to this ScienCentral news video, researchers have
discovered that where you vote can influence how you vote. They found that images
that surround you, what consumer researchers call “cues,” could influence your
decisions.
Questions:
Do you think some people might be more easily influenced by environmental
cues? Who might these people be? What are the implications of these findings
for the voting process or for other social phenomena?
2. Read all the discussion postings. By the due date, respond to at least one
posting for each of the two questions you did not answer. In other words, if you
posted to Question a, then you should respond to some who posted to Question
b and c. Please keep in mind that you still have to do other postings

Describe at least two of their ADHD symptoms, using examples if possible.

In your essay, explain what ADHD is (see p. 181 or use a peer-reviewed academic source). Then, identify an example of someone you know (maybe yourself) who is struggling or has struggled with symptoms of ADHD (use only the person’s first name to protect their identity; see p. 181 for ADHD symptoms or another peer-reviewed source). DO NOT use first person. Describe at least two of their ADHD symptoms, using examples if possible. Last, state the appropriate psychological strategies that they could use to help them overcome each of these symptoms (see p. 182 for general advice on dealing with ADHD or use peer-reviewed web sources such as

Write an essay comparing and contrasting two of the theories from the theorists below

Write an essay comparing and contrasting two of the theories (from the theorists below) you encountered in this lesson:

Alfred Binet
Charles Spearman
Louis Thurstone
Howard Gardner
Robert Sternberg
David Wechsler
Louis Terman
As you create and develop your matrix, each point of comparison can serve as the basis for a paragraph. In this example, Paragraph 1 might focus on the similarities in the context out of which both Gardner’s and Sternberg’s theories emerged. So in Paragraph 1, you would identify and describe the point of comparison (i.e., the context out of which these theories emerged) and then explain the similarities between the two theories based on this point of comparison. As you organize your main points (the body of your essay), group your “similarities” paragraphs together, and group your “differences” paragraphs together. Once you’ve identified the points of comparison and completed the matrix (yours will look different than this one), you can begin writing your essay. Remember to include an introductory paragraph (which you may want to write after you’ve written your body paragraphs) that explains why it might be important to understand these differences/similarities (i.e., your thesis statement) and also a concluding paragraph.

Identify the independent variables. What are they and how you would measure them?

Week 5 – Assignment: Examine the Concepts of Variables and Sampling

Previous Next

Instructions

This week’s task will allow you to demonstrate your understanding of the concepts you have read about this week. Provided below are two hypothetical issues that require your review. After your review, design a mock study to address each issue.

Issue 1: Is praying effective? People tend to pray for people for several reasons, and one of them is that they hope that their prayers will influence various outcomes. For example, athletes often pray before games they play. Using the example of athletes praying before a game, design a study to test the effectiveness of praying.

Issue 2: Do people have extra-sensory perception (ESP)? The concept of ESP is that some people can detect information they should not know. For example, some people say they can see a picture in another room and describe the details without having to be in that room. Design a study that tests whether someone has ESP.

Note: Although these examples may appear unusual, there are many studies (mostly experiments) that have examined both issues in considerable detail. Feel free to access some of these studies to help you create your study.

In both study designs, you MUST include information relating to:

  • Identify the independent variables. What are they and how you would measure them?
  • Identify the dependent variables. What are they and how you would measure them?
  • Explain the procedure for each study.
  • Describe your sampling technique for each study.

Support your assignment with at least five scholarly resources. In addition to these specified resources, other appropriate scholarly resources, including seminal articles, may be included.
Length: 5 pages, not including title and reference pages

Is there any hope; optimism, cause for celebration, or acknowledgement of success or improvement in this? If not, is it appropriate to bring some in to balance your response?

The assignment requires you to write a response of the following news items.

The piece should be written in the style of a response comment piece / editorial for a Psychology bulletin or a national newspaper. You should comment on the article and the broader issues raised by it from a professional psychological perspective.

You should include political, economic and social factors where relevant. It is important to present a balanced argument by discussing all perspectives even if you favour one particular position in your conclusion.

The best pieces of work will integrate psychological theories and perhaps formulations, with relevant Government (or perhaps BPS) policies and may also draw upon personal and/or service user experiential perspectives.

The best pieces of work will demonstrate an awareness of how the issue(s) being discussed affects both individuals, organisations and populations.

You may choose to focus on the psychological impact or take the view of mental health services for example. Forensic students should ensure they discuss the impact in terms of forensic services as well as any other perspective they take on the paper.

Provide a well-reasoned and evidenced piece in a professional style.

This assignment asks you to demonstrate your understanding of important issues in mental health practice; your ability to evaluate different approaches to these, and to present a logical and reasoned argument in relation to one or more of the key issues in a professional / public forum.

Questions to help you think about the article you are reading

Who has written/produced this? And how might the authorship affect the views expressed and the tone?
Is a particular political orientation obvious here? If so, how might this be shaping the piece? What kinds of information might be wittingly or unwittingly censored

Whose voice/voices are missing from this? Why does that matter? How does any of this relate to diversity, equality and democracy?

What sources will you need to research to understand more about this? There may be obvious ones indicated in the article but what about others? More interesting or lateral connections?

If this is a piece about public policy or legislation, how do you think this might affect the health care system/CJS and clinical psychologists/forensic psychologists specifically, in their day to day business? How will you convert lofty political rhetoric into meaningful accounts of people’s lives?

If this is a piece about personal experience how do you think this might be effectively used to effect change? Or to celebrate success? How might you write about this as a professional clinical or forensic psychologist in order to raise awareness further? Whose awareness would you be wanting to raise and why? Which media would you communicate via? Why?

If you’re thinking about financial arguments have you researched properly and thought about the complexities? (I.e. ‘public services need more money’ is too reductionist.) What would you prioritise spending on? Why? What would that mean about areas not prioritised?

How does what you are reading about here relate to the other lecture topics? If you can’t seem to find an obvious link, which strand could you develop with some further research for a more lateral link?

If you have had a strong emotional reaction to what you have read how will you temper that in your communication in order to make sure your passion is communicated effectively rather than potentially embarrassing yourself or bringing disrepute to the profession?

Is there any hope; optimism, cause for celebration, or acknowledgement of success or improvement in this? If not, is it appropriate to bring some in to balance your response?
