Critically discuss the contribution of Cognitive Psychology, Biological Psychology and Neuroscience to Memory – Dementia

Explain your research question, including an argument for why this topic is relevant and deserves to be studied.

This first part of your project proposal will consist of the following sections:

Introduction: (1-2 pages) First, you’ll be picking a topic of interest and turning it into an appropriate research question. You can pick any topic as the basis of your research, as long as it relates to psychology in some way. The first section of your proposal will explain your research question, including an argument for why this topic is relevant and deserves to be studied. You should be spending some time clearly discussing what, exactly, you’d like to learn with your research project, as well as what you already know going into it. You should also be explaining the ideas embedded in your research question–some definitions may be necessary to understand what you’re asking.Article Reviews: (~3 pages per article) Once you have an appropriate question, you’ll then be tracking down at least 2 scholarly, empirical articles that will inform you about the topic and help you to develop a tentative answer to your question–what will ultimately become your hypothesis. For each article you’ll be summarizing the main ideas of the study.

Motivation — Explain the questions and hypotheses that the researchers were trying to evaluate. What did they know going into the study, and what did they want to learn? If they had a specific hypothesis (or hypotheses), you should be able to explain what it was, and why they made that prediction.

Methods — Discuss how they conducted the study. Who were their participants? What variables were they focusing on, and how were these variables measured (or manipulated, if it was an experiment)? The reader should have a pretty good idea what would have happened had they participated in the study.

Findings — State the results that were obtained, and then discuss them: what do they mean, and how do these findings relate to the initial ideas the researchers had–their research questions and hypotheses?

Explain why We should believe EXISTENTIAL THEORY is the best for helping people.

CONVINCE THE READER THAT EXISTENTIAL THEORY is the best theory for therapy in counselling.
1. Which theoretical orientation which do you believe to be the best theory for helping clients? It’s EXISTENTIAL THEORY.
2) Explain why We should believe EXISTENTIAL THEORY is the best for helping people. Convince us that the theory you choose is best for helping people.

Which interventions can increase organ donation, and why?

Examining the most effective behavioural change interventions: Which interventions can increase organ donation, and why?

Critically appraise the range of essential concepts in related Psychodynamic theory.

LO1 Critically appraise the range of essential concepts in related Psychodynamic theory.
From your reading and theoretical seminars in this module, compare and contrast the work, theory and ideas of Melanie Klein and Donald Winnicott. Include reference to the experience of having inner and outer worlds.

What measures and procedures did the researchers use to test their prediction?

The paper will include six paragraphs (no extra space between paragraphs, just regular double space),
matching the six questions below about the article attached “Just think: The challenges of the disengaged mind.” Answer every question and make it clear and explicit which
question you are answering by labeling the paragraph for each question. Do this by either putting the
number of the question at the beginning of the paragraph or by making a heading with the question
before each paragraph. Within your paper, clearly address and answer EACH of the following six
questions:
1. What is the basic question the paper addressed?
2. What did the authors predict?
3. Who were the participants (number, gender, age, ethnicity if given)?
4. What measures and procedures did the researchers use to test their prediction?
5. What were the main results (not every one, but the major ones) and did the results
confirm or disconfirm the prediction?
6. What is one limitation of the study? (e.g., sample was too small, measures were not
reliable or valid, did not consider alternative explanations, etc.)

Briefly give account of the chosen substance and outline it using social, historical, and/or cultural context.

To help you structure your essay you should follow the points below:

  • Select a substance (Alcohol)
  • Briefly give account of the chosen substance and outline it using social, historical, and/or cultural context.
  • Define the different concepts and explanations regarding; use, problem use and dependence for the chosen substance.
  • Discuss national patterns and trends regarding the substance, please use institutional reports to correctly describe the prevalence in the essay (make sure that at level 6 UK prevalence statistic are present in the essay with a little criticism towards the measure used).
  • Choose 3 theories of addiction describe and evaluate them (IMPORTANT: you must use empirical evidence appropriately and support its influence or efficacy in explaining addiction). Thereafter, compare the theories evaluated with the WHO Model of Dependence: Bio-psycho-social model (this will be your third theory in the assignment, make sure you describe what the WHO Biopsychosocial model is, and use it to highlight the complexity of addiction through synergy of the different paradigms discussed).
  • Discuss the implications for practice. If you are unable to apply this to practice due to lack of experience you can discuss what each model adds to understanding of ‘Addiction’ in the field. Furthermore, you may want to highlight the synergy of the theories. This may be used to explain how different models and theories of addiction support and explain different aspects (i.e. they all add to our current understanding of addiction but no particular theory in isolation can comprehensively explain addiction). Please make an appointment to discuss this with the module leader (Dr Luisa Perrino) if you feel it would benefit you.

Critically discuss the key theories, research findings and current trends for the following topic

In your discussion, you must include a critical evaluation. That should address
cross-cultural perspectives and/or methodological issues concerning the
concepts and research in that topic.
You may refer to the relevant lecturer(s) recommended reading, but a thorough
essay would include ideas from research or review papers that you can source
from academic literature searches (see next page) to enhance the discussion.
