Discuss potential relevance and biases with multicultural populations

Conceptualize Angela Evangelista, a transgender character from Netflix Series Pose.

  • Identification of additional data needed by the counselor to plan treatment for the client
  • Identify and thoroughly describe any standardized screening measures appropriate for screening the client.
    • Discuss potential relevance and biases with multicultural populations
    • Support your reason for choosing the screening instruments.
  • Discussion of differential diagnosis: identify the diagnoses that are confirmed and the diagnoses that must be ruled out
  • Discuss if there are co-occurring substance use disorders and medical or psychological disorders and potential impact
  • Identification of stage of change and defenses used by the client, with rationale provided
  • Identification of short-term goals for the client
  • Identification of long-term goals for the client
  • Detailed and specific treatment plan for the client
  • Discussion of ethical, family, and cultural considerations that may influence counseling of the client *this is especially important because she is transgender and has no familial support from her biological family. Her support comes from her boyfriend and tight nit circle of friends*
  • Discussion of potential counselor bias or countertransference issues that might impact the counseling process

Pose

Angel Evangelista

Season 2 (episode 7 and 8)

  • Went to a magazine release party with her boyfriend, Papi. They were invited to the VIP section where they saw people casually snorting cocaine off a table. Angel wanted to try the cocaine (a decision that could derail her career and cause her to be kicked out of her house). Papi tried to talk her out of it but failed. Angel gave into the industry peer pressure.
  • The next day, one of Angel’s roommate catches Angel and Papi with cocaine and tries to warn them, and the two swear that it’s just a one-time thing. But at the end of the episode, Angel arrives at her big shoot two hours late(and visibly exhausted from a night out) and is warned by her modeling agent that she’s playing a dangerous game with her career. And, to Angel’s surprise, the same guy who gave her the drugs is working on the set.
  • If Angel develops an addiction, it could lead to her losing gigs or, even worse, losing her life if she has an accidental overdose. She has worked hard to leave sex work behind and pursue her passion of modeling, so it would be tragic if her journey takes a downward spiral because of drug use.
  • Angel’s roommate eventually tells their house mother that Angel is using cocaine and Angel moves out

Explain how you see the story and how the different media channels cover it differently.

PROMPT: guideline for the length of your post is three paragraphs with at least five sentences in each paragraph.
Throughout this course, you have seen that reality may not be as clear as one would think. An event occurs. Is there one accurate story of what really happened or do the media or storytellers see the story in different ways and ultimately construct more than one reality?
For this week’s discussion board, choose one of the following options:
Option 1) Pay attention to one news story that occurs this week. It can be local, domestic or international. Find two or three different ways the story is covered either on television news, twitter, blogs, hard copy or online newspaper or other source. Explain how you see the story and how the different media channels cover it differently. What was in one story and not in another and why? Did the intended audience have an effect on the storytelling? Why or why not? How does this relate to media psychology?
Option 2) A major natural disaster (earthquake, cyclone, flood, heatwave, etc.) has just hit a neighboring state. Hundreds, perhaps thousands are injured and/or dead. Houses and other buildings have collapsed. Local and national officials, including medical personnel and the armed forces are scrambling to help. Relief flights are beginning to come in to the area. Wear the hat of:
A reporter covering this incident from another country
A reporter covering this incident from your neighboring state
A citizen blogger who is right near the damaged area (and is able to access the internet)
For each hat, describe how you would cover the story differently and why. What would be in one story and not in another and why? Did the intended audience or the background of the reporter have an effect on the construction of reality? How does this relate to media psychology?
If you are feeling creative, you may actually write a brief blog as the citizen blogger and/or create your own video clip of how you might cover the story wearing one of these “hats.” You would then post your blog or video or link to them here in the discussion board.

Reflect on how research methodology can influence conclusions about media violence and pornography.

In this quick two paragraph brainstorm, you will reflect on how research methodology can influence conclusions about media violence and pornography. Chapters 11 and 13 focus on research methods, which you may or may not have studied before. Choose one study and set of data such as Figure 11.1, Trends in Media Violence. Then do the following:
In 5 to 6 sentences (paragraph 1), explain what you learned from that data and how it is or is not difficult to interpret it.
In your next 5-6 sentences (paragraph 2), explain how you might conduct a research study to avoid the ambiguity in results you saw in Chapters 11 and 13.
You may reference a research study on a topic in one of these chapters or another study that you find or have discovered in your other work in this class as long as it connect to media violence and/or pornography. It is understood that you are not specifically studying methodology, so your focus should be on trying to understand the conclusions of a study and how methodology can affect people’s perceptions of the outcome of a research study.

Explain which treatment outcome model you would use to measure the success of the treatment approach, and why.

This week, you research and apply treatment approaches and models to another group, mindful of the unique characteristics and circumstances relevant to that group. When sex offenders are referred to treatment, it is imperative that treatment providers recognize treatment process challenges and their impact on the selection of effective treatment strategies and approaches. Recognizing challenges to successful treatment allows providers to adapt their treatment approaches and the desired treatment outcomes.
To prepare for this Discussion:
Select a treatment approach of particular interest to you for sex offenders.
Conduct an academic search in the Walden Library. Select at least one scholarly article from a peer-reviewed journal that discusses the treatment approach you selected—an approach that demonstrates efficacy in treating sex offender populations.
Reflect on the treatment outcome models as they relate to the research article you selected. Think about how the treatment approach you selected might be evaluated using the treatment outcome models.
Select one treatment outcome model that you think would be most effective for measuring the success of your selected treatment approach, and consider why.
With these thoughts in mind:
By Day 4
Post a brief description of the research article you selected. Include the type of sex offense and the treatment approach used. Then explain which treatment outcome model you would use to measure the success of the treatment approach, and why. Be specific.
Be sure to support your postings and responses with specific references to the resources.

Share two main take aways you gathered from the resource.

you are to focus on one of these areas (difficulties with language, lateralization or split brain). Find an outside resource that presents a case study in relation to one of these areas of difficulty (for instance, you may find a You Tube video about an experience of someone with split brain) and share the findings of this resource as noted below. This resource may be a video, podcast, peer-reviewed journal article, website, book, etc. The posting should be at least 300 words in length. Please make sure to cite any resources that you used in APA format.
you are to include the following:
A summary of the case study and condition.
Share two main take aways you gathered from the resource.
Post any questions that you have after reviewing the case.
Make sure to include a link to your resource within your initial posting.

Compare human beings at different ages. How might age play a part in energy needs and sleep?

The handout below was developed by the authors of your textbook. The handout includes information on sleep duration for humans and a variety of animals. Review the handout and then answer the following questions:
Compare small animals with large animals. Do you notice any difference in sleep patterns?
Compare human beings at different ages. How might age play a part in energy needs and sleep?
What are three biggest takeaways from examining this data?

Post a brief description of the two types of sex offenders you selected and explain at least two similarities and two differences between these two types of sex offenders.

Sex offenders seem to be the most feared and despised offenders in the criminal justice system, yet they are also some of the least understood. Due to the nature of the crimes that sexual offenders commit and the media saturation that can be related to these crimes, American culture has been considerably affected by Megan’s Law. This law includes community notification rights for registered sex offenders and beliefs about sex offender incarceration. Media depictions of the “worst of the worst” sex offenders put all types of sex offenders under one overarching label. Sex offenders, as a forensic population, actually are quite heterogeneous, and there are substantial differences among the types of sex offenders. However, because of media representations and generalizations, it is not apparent in popular discourse how sex offender types differ. Additionally, because of these differences among types of sex offenders, treatment approaches and outcomes differ, too. Power rapists, date rapists, hebephiles, pedophiles, incest offenders, exhibitionists, regressed pedophiles, and sexually abusive individuals are all very different from one another and require different treatment approaches.
When it comes to treatment approaches and outcomes, it is imperative to understand the individual offender as well as the type of sexual deviance. For example, the power rapist who chooses unknown victims usually presents with predatory behavior, which may complicate treatment approaches. Each offender’s offense history and psychology must be evaluated and considered when selecting a treatment approach and ensuing outcome.
To prepare for this Discussion:
Review the website Center for Sex Offender Management: Subtypes and Typologies. Consider similarities and differences among the types of sex offenders.
Review the course media found in this week’s resources and consider the characteristics of sexual offender populations that present challenges to successful treatment. Also, think about the legal challenges related to the successful treatment of sexual offenders.
Then, select two types of sex offenders to compare for this Discussion.
With these thoughts in mind:
By Day 3
Post a brief description of the two types of sex offenders you selected and explain at least two similarities and two differences between these two types of sex offenders. Then explain one challenge related to the treatment of each type of sex offender and why it is a challenge.
Be sure to support your postings and responses with specific references to the resources.

Identify one advocacy action to take to address the target problem at each of the following levels: institutional, community, and public policy levels and further explain why each of these actions might be effective.

You have explored a community problem from the perspective of prevention. Now, you will consider this problem through the lens of advocacy. Are there public policies that could change? Are there resources that could be enlisted? As you address the community problem you have chosen to explore for your social change portfolio, consider how advocacy might, for example, raise awareness or resolve issues.
For this Discussion, you will explore advocacy actions as they relate to the targeted community problem you chose.
To Prepare:
Review the Learning Resources for this week and consider advocacy as it relates to your targeted community problem.
Create a section in your Social Change Portfolio called “Part 5: “Advocacy” and include the following:
According to the last domain of the MSJCC guidelines (i.e., IV. Counseling and Advocacy Interventions), identify barriers to addressing the target problem at institutional, community, and public policy levels.
According to the last domain of the MSJCC guidelines (i.e., IV. Counseling and Advocacy Interventions), identify one advocacy action to take to address the target problem at each of the following levels: institutional, community, and public policy levels and further explain why each of these actions might be effective.
By Day 3
Post a link to your updated Social Change Portfolio and include your completed Part 5: Advocacy.
Be sure to support your postings and responses with specific references to the Learning Resources and identify current relevant literature to support your work.

The areas of the brain affected by Anorexia Nervosa and why,

Please watch the documentary link provided below (NOVA Dying to be Thin) and then write a one-page discussion about:
1). The areas of the brain affected by Anorexia Nervosa and why,
2). The behavioral changes noted,
3). Treatment modalities discussed,
4). One treatment clinic/center/program near you.

Analyze your thinking about human behaviour, apply the fundamental theories of psychology in the aforementioned analysis, and identify and describe each of the theories

GOAL: You will analyze your thinking about human behaviour, apply the fundamental theories of psychology in the aforementioned analysis, and identify and describe each of the theories discussed in this module as the evolution of modern psychology and sub-fields in psychology. The ability to do the above will be measured in the completion of this discussion and an exam.

TASKS:

1. Before going any further, please take a few moments and carefully think about this question:

“Why do people behave as they do?”

Write down your answer that question as your response will become the foundational piece of this discussion post.

2. Please be sure to have completed the History of Psychology Homework page and to have reviewed the PowerPoints contained in Module 2.

3. It is important to recognize that this chapter discusses many theories of human behaviour. The “Research Methods in Psychology” chapter provides a definition of “theory” and it is useful to review that. My preferred definition of a theory is “A plausible explanation of observed phenomena.” This means behaviours that are seen are explained using rational thinking. That is, the explanation is believable and within the realm of reason.

4. Having done the requisite reading, please complete the following discussion post:

a. Briefly summarize how you answered the question in Task 1-an example would help to illustrate your thoughts.

b. Then, which ONE of the psychological theories presented in this chapter most agrees with your thinking? Which ONE theory seems to be the most opposite of your view? Be specific and provide information from the text to support your ideas.

NOTE: You must pick ONLY one theory in answering each of the above questions. While that may be difficult, you must make a choice.

4. A total of five points are available for this discussion.

5. Please be sure to follow all of the directions for discussion posts as contained in that specific Bb folder.
