Explain what you learned from the interview and your opinion about the agency. Explain your responses. Explain what you will do to continue to foster the relationship with the person you interviewed.

Field Experience I / Week 7 – Midterm Project

Midterm Project– Informational Interview Analysis

You will interview someone from an agency you are interested in. You will then write a three-page essay summarizing the results of your interview and include the following.

Summarize your interview in narrative form– Do not simply write your questions and their answers. Do not include quotes of what they said and what you said. Do not copy and paste off of the internet as this is not a research paper, but an interview paper:

Agency Name; the name, contact information, and position of the person that you interviewed; and the date and time of the interview.
Information about the agency and what the agency does including the population they serve, the services they provide, success stories, and challenging experiences.
Explain what you learned from the interview and your opinion about the agency. Explain your responses.
Explain what you will do to continue to foster the relationship with the person you interviewed.

How does this transition affect friendship maintenance and new friendship formation? If you feel comfortable, share a personal experience.

I’ll Be There For You: Adult Friendship Maintenance

Purpose: Students are able to apply the challenges presented by Erikson to relationship maintenance including, social, religious and spiritual relationships.

Overview: Although some people may remain friends for life, in actuality, there is a shifting process in friendship formations that we go through during adult life. The goal of this activity is to investigate the shifting dynamics of friendships during middle adulthood.

For example, two adults who are both married and have small children are more likely to forge relationships and maintain a friendship than an adult with children and a single, childless adult. Likewise, a friendship may be strained if one adult changes a developmental address (gets married) and another does not (stays single).

Post: Discuss the transition between college and early adulthood.

1)How does this transition affect friendship maintenance and new friendship formation?

2) If you feel comfortable, share a personal experience.

3)End your post with a question for the class related to your post.

What did you notice as you were present with the ordinary? In what ways were you able to engage the ordinary intentionally? What might you learn from this?

Finding God in the Ordinary

Purpose: Review and reflect on your practice of presence throughout this course.
Instructions: Throughout this course you have been invited into a practice of presence towards the ordinary and mundane places in your life. Write a 250-500 word essay reflecting on your experience with this practice. The only grading criteria for this assignment will be whether or not you were on topic (i.e. grammar and formatting will not be graded).

Some questions that might help shape your reflections:

• What did you notice as you were present with the ordinary?

• In what ways were you able to engage the ordinary intentionally? What might you learn from this?

• In what ways did you struggle with attending to the ordinary? What might this be teaching you?

• If God often shows up through the ordinary (a baby in a manger, a common table, ordinary bread and wine), what implications does this have for your life?

• Keep in mind that this reflection essay is for your benefit. If you struggled to engage in this practice of presence, that’s okay. Reflect on why that was the case. What might you learn through that struggle?

What is a case formulation and how does it link to treatment planning? How would the development of a case formulation benefit the patient and the clinician?

Week 7 – Developing the Case Formulation

Homework Assignments Content

Now that we’ve gained clinical knowledge on preparing an assessement, the next important step is the development of a case formulation which is critical in the planning of treatment for behavioral health patients.
A case formulation is the primary objective of the clinical assessment. It is a model of the patient and how that patient functions in the world. It provides a hypothesis about the patient’s problems that is based on the theory of psychopathology which guides the clinician’s understanding and treatment of such problems.

1) What is a case formulation and how does it link to treatment planning? (Include key aspects)

2) How would the development of a case formulation benefit the patient and the clinician?

3) Explain the concept of theory-based case forumation and give one example.

4) Briefly explain each step in developing a case formulation.

Write a discussion that addresses how motivational forces, that sometimes conflict, impact behaviors that are relevant to others. During the current pandemic, government officials and others have asked us to change our behaviors to help curtail and change the nature of the spread of the coronavirus.

Public Health

Public health is a challenging topic. On one hand, in individualistic societies such as ours, we value independence and freedom to make whatever choices we wish, even if those choices may not be in our or other people’s best interests. On the other hand, we live in a society in which our behaviors have direct consequences on others and maintaining the health of society in general sometimes necessitates restricting individual choices. I realize this topic, although timely, may also evoke some strong opinions. I encourage everyone to remain respectful of others in the discussion.

In this discussion, you are to integrate the points you learned in Module 7 (Motivation) material (text readings, video content, and other material) with Module 13 (Social Psychology) material (text readings, video content, and other material). I would like you to think about how the material from the modules is relevant to the public health issues we currently face.

Rather than ignore a current controversy, I thought it would be beneficial to apply some of your newfound knowledge to the controversy. Write a discussion that addresses how motivational forces, that sometimes conflict, impact behaviors that are relevant to others. During the current pandemic, government officials and others have asked us to change our behaviors to help curtail and change the nature of the spread of the coronavirus. What do you think motivates most people to adhere to these restrictions? Do you think cultivating intrinsic or extrinsic motivation would better increase compliance with rules such as wearing facemasks and engaging in social distancing? How do you think cultural factors such as individualism and collectivism impact compliance with these health recommendations? If you were a public health official, what steps would you take to increase compliance? Why do you think some people feel so strongly about not complying with these regulations? Are phenomena such as the Bystander Effect and the Fundamental Attribution Error or findings related to research on compliance and obedience relevant to this discussion? How?

What legislation and other protections have been put in place to insure that all individuals have equal chances of success? Do we rely too heavily on test results? Research this issue and share your perspective.

TAP DB4

On page 532 your text states: “On average, African Americans score about 15 points lower than white Americans on standardized IQ tests. This difference equates to approximately one standard deviation.” I want each student to research this issue and post at least one quality site in your post. Arthur Jensen published material that became very controversial. You will want to look over his material since this was the beginning of an ongoing debate. What kind of test bias does this represent? How does test bias negatively impact individuals? What is the best way to correct this situation? What legislation and other protections have been put in place to insure that all individuals have equal chances of success? Do we rely too heavily on test results? Research this issue and share your perspective.

What did you watch? What emotional or moral issues were presented? How did the characters respond? Where the responses and/or consequences realistic?

CP DB4

Many theorists believe that the acquisition of emotional intelligence and moral thinking and/or behaviors are heavily influenced by media portrayals of “appropriate” behaviors. Prior to your participation in this week’s discussion, watch an episode of a TV show or movie that is aimed at children in late childhood. You can access full episodes from the Nickelodeon network at https://www.nick.com/episodes. You can also view many shows via YouTube and social media forums, Netflix, Hulu and cable tv.

After viewing your media of choice and reading pages 497-498 in your text answer the following questions:

  • What did you watch?
  • What emotional or moral issues were presented?
  • How did the characters respond? Where the responses and/or consequences realistic?
  • Based on your reading this week what effect on emotional and moral development do you feel that today’s TV shows, movies and social media have on our tweens(late childhood).
  • What guidelines would you provide to parents whose children fall in this age range on media exposure? What does research suggest?
