What comments can you give them that would help further their development? Any ideas from the readings and resources that might apply?

 Group plan

Create a group plan for one session for a specific population based on your theoretical orientation and demonstrate how you would use it in your profession. Be sure to identify evidenced based practices, cultural awareness, and an integrated approach to group counseling. In your participation posts, respond to other peer group session plans, giving suggestions for improvement or other observations that would be helpful as a group facilitator. What makes diamonds and their cut special in the way that they shine and sparkle? How is light affected as it moves from air through the diamond and back out into the air? If someone submerges their diamond ring in water, will it sparkle more or less or the same, and why?

Why the sky appears blue on a bright and sunny day

A child asks you very politely why the sky appears blue on a bright and sunny day. What would you say to him or her? They then go on to ask about why the sunset appears red when it normally looks white when it is high in the sky. Do your best to explain both of these phenomenon, using physics terms and vocabulary in your explanation.

What was the most interesting and useful thing you learned in lab 17 that helped you understand everyday life better? (i.e. Did you have a “Eureka!” moment while working through the material?)

Develop your own personal integration statement, guided by our course readings.

Personal Integration

The final writing assignment for the course is a summary integration paper. Here, you are asked to develop your own personal integration statement, guided by our course readings. You should to begin with the Johnson chapter on “Integration: the 5 views” and the handout titled, “Integration-worldviews”, adding in any ideas and concepts from our other readings and any scriptural support you wish to cite. Make a clear statement of your personal approach to relating psychology to Christianity. You are strongly encouraged to illustrate your approach by using a contemporary issue in modern psychology. Examples might include humanistic psychology’s claim that human nature is essentially good; evolutionary psychology and the “selfish gene”; clinical psychology and the pursuit of high self-esteem; and so on.

Summarize your findings (6 to 8 pages typed, double-spaced, APA style with references; no title page or abstract needed). Devote most of your effort to a deeper understanding of the relevant issue for your integration position. Write with a clear sense of direction and look to synthesize and critically analyze the issue you choose to illustrate your approach. The best papers will have few (if any) errors in grammar with writing that is well-organized and well-supported with examples/illustrations.

What factors (e.g., genetic, nurturing, etc.) do you believe contribute to cats’ not always friendly behavior?

Extra Credit—Biopsychology

Answer the following question by making use of the content discussed in class throughout the semester. To get the highest possible points, critical thinking will be required. Please make use of your notes, textbook, and/or any other reputable source (not yahoo answers) to support your arguments.

Answering this question may boost up your last discussion score up to 10%. NOT your overall grade. Your answer should be between 700- 1,000 words.

Question

Though millions of people around the world have cats as pets, cats fall short from being called “a man’s/woman’s best friend”. Part of this is due to the fact that cats are considered to be semi-domesticated, whereas dogs are considered to be domesticated. What factors (e.g., genetic, nurturing, etc.) do you believe contribute to cats’ not always friendly behavior?

What are your thoughts about benzodiazepines, who is appropriate for their use, when it is appropriate and how the consumer can be protected?

Week 2A – Benzo/CNS Drugs Discussion Board Post

In the time since they were introduced, a growing body of evidence suggests that benzodiazepines have serious side effects. Some patients taking a benzodiazepine have experienced periods of irritability, rage or outright aggression Further, the duration of action of some benzodiazepines such as alprazolam is so short that there is a danger that the patient will start the benzodiazepine withdrawal syndrome (BWS) before he or she is scheduled to take the next dose. Since anxiety is one of the cardinal symptoms of the BWS, the anxiety that the person experiences when in a state of withdrawal from a short-acting benzodiazepine is resolved with the next dose. This raises the question of whether the patient is experiencing real anxiety, which certainly should be treated, or withdrawal-related anxiety. What are your thoughts about benzodiazepines, who is appropriate for their use, when it is appropriate and how the consumer can be protected?

Watch the clips about benzodiazepines as well the article that shows how often people with opioid addictions are prescribed benzodiazepine and how they can lead to accidental overdose  Benzodiazepines are highly addictive and the withdrawal is very dangerous  The additional clip includes the stories of persons with benzo addiction https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-RcThf6Rs40 https://www.bu.edu/articles/2016/benzos-and-opiates/ .

Finally, this intervention clip shows the experience of someone with a benzodiazepine addiction https://play.aetv.com/shows/intervention/season-11/episode-7  Just be aware that it shows her shooting up drugs which might be very disturbing. Methadone and Ativan/Xanax can mimic the effects of heroin and it’s very dangerous.
