Week 1C – Recovery Groups Discussion Board Post

Go to the link for Zoom recovery meetings for Alcoholics Anonymous, Narcotics Anonymous, Al Anon (for families of addicts) or Gamblers Anonymous and click on OPEN for a meeting. For all of these recovery groups, there are closed and open meetings and closed meetings are for alcoholics, addicts, and gambling addicts alone.

For the Open meeting, you can observe without asking any questions or comments.  Some meetings are better than others, so if the meeting seems like it is too strange or is too religious (they should be spiritual and not religious), you can leave and enter another meeting.

Write a one-page reply about your experience in the meeting and your thoughts and feelings about how the meeting was compared to how you thought it would be.  People with addictions tend to say that AA is better than NA in terms of structure and positive messages.  If you wish, you can attend one of each and compare them.
