Discussion

Complete this week’s Learning Activity to prepare for the Assignment. https://kapextmediassl-a.akamaihd.net/artsSCi/Media/PS521/PS521_1902A/PS521_6_Activity/story_html5.html Read the following Resource: Group Development https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/books/NBK64221/ TIP 41 – https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/books/NBK64214/#A78486 Intensive Outpatient Treatment Services https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/books/NBK64093/

Read the following Scenarios:

Scenario 1 You are running an outpatient treatment group for veterans who have recently been returned to the United States and been discharged from service. Their overseas work has kept them away from friends and family for more than one year. Their adjustment to civilian life has been complicated by substance related disorders and symptoms of PTSD. There are 10 adult males in the group between the ages of 25-40. The scenario provides a basic framework to create your case study and develop your paper. You will need to add details to give specific examples and respond to the required questions.

Scenario 2 You are running a court ordered psychoeducation group for people convicted of driving under the influence (drugs or alcohol). This is a closed group with 12 sessions. Each of the members was arrested with a blood alcohol content more than double the legal limit. There are 10 members of the co-ed group. There are 5 men and 5 women between the ages of 21 – 60. The scenario provides a basic framework to create your case study and develop your paper. You will need to add details to give specific examples and respond to the required questions. Scenario 3 You are running an outpatient treatment group for nurses who have been caught using drugs or alcohol during their shifts. They have been referred by their employer and are at risk for permanently losing their nursing license due to their use of drugs or alcohol on the job. There are 10 women in this group between the ages of 27 – 68. The scenario provides a basic framework to create your case study and develop your paper. You will need to add details to give specific examples and respond to the required questions. Choose one of the above scenarios (A, B, or C). Following the specifics of your group choice, develop the case study of Sam and respond to the following questions. You will also need to identify three reliable references to support your paper. Create Sam’s case study to include age, gender, culture, and the reason for Sam being in the group. You may want to include Sam’s family status (marriage or children), living environment, and employment status as well. Consider what drug(s) and/or alcohol has caused them to seek treatment and why. Sam will be described differently by each student, just be sure to add enough detail to your case study to justify the need for Sam to be a member of your selected group. Identify three strengths and the challenges that you will face leading this group? How will you use your strengths and overcome your identified challenges to work effectively with Sam? Examine four common problems (one problem in each stage) that Sam will surface in the initial, transition, working and final stages of your selected group? How will you address each of those issues to optimize Sam’s treatment? Describe the process of assessing Sam’s progress throughout the group process?

Discuss privacy laws, Tarasoff Laws by state, mandatory reporting laws, age of consent to treatment, and international telehealth laws.

State Regulations Paper

Each student will review the Telemental Health statutes/requirements for two states in which you might consider practicing following graduation. In a minimum of 4-7 pages (in APA format) describe each state’s requirements separately, compare the two, and discuss what you would need to do (training, licensure, supervision, etc.) to gain the competence required to provide Telemental Health services in either state. Also, discuss privacy laws, Tarasoff Laws by state, mandatory reporting laws, age of consent to treatment, and international telehealth laws.

It is recommended that you use the following website as a starting point for your review of different state requirements:

Identify at least one advantage and one disadvantage of using peer-reviewed articles from the University Library, Wikipedia or other wiki sources, or textbooks from former courses, to find literature for your review. What source do you use most often? Why?

Disadvantage of using peer-reviewed articles

Respond to the following in a minimum of 175 words to either prompt 1, 2, or 3:

Prompt 1:

Identify at least one advantage and one disadvantage of using peer-reviewed articles from the University Library, Wikipedia or other wiki sources, or textbooks from former courses, to find literature for your review. What source do you use most often? Why?

Prompt 2:

Describe three key events and the figures associated with them in the development of psychological testing.

Prompt 3:

Discuss one concept or topic from our week’s readings (textbook and/or eResource). What struck you about this concept/topic? What thoughts do you have to share about this?

Choose the research question that you are going to use to develop your experiment. Write your hypothesis and identify the independent and dependent variables.

Literature review

Write the first two steps in what is known as a research proposal. This will be the beginning of the process for designing a complete research experiment. You will not collect any data. Your written paper will include the following steps:

Step 1 – In week 1 you will choose the research question that you are going to use to develop your experiment. Next, you will write your hypothesis and identify the independent and dependent variables. This will be submitted as part of your Week 1 assignment.

Step 2 – You will write the introduction section to set your readers up for what you will be covering within your study. This will be submitted as part of your Week 1 assignment.

Step 3 – Develop an annotated bibliography to gain a deeper understanding of your overall research topic. For this assignment you will need to find 4 peer-reviewed journal articles through Keiser’s online library for your annotated bibliography. You will submit this portion of your project in Week 2. Please see Annotated Bibliography under week 2 for further direction on how to write an annotated bibliography.

Step 4 – You will convert your annotated bibliography into a literature review.

Step 5 – You will write an abstract that will summarize your introduction and your literature review.

Final Project Outline:

I.Title page

II.Abstract

III.Introduction

  1. Literature Review – 2-3 pages introducing your topic and providing an overview of the key variables in your experiment as discovered through the analysis of your articles from your annotated bibliography.

V.Reference page– presented in APA format

IMPORTANT POINTS TO REMEMBER

In your abstract be sure to summarize key points from your introduction and methodology, hypothesis, independent and dependent variables, and treatment conditions.

After your introduction, include a literature review that relates to your procedures. Introduce your research question, hypothesis, independent and dependent variables, and treatment conditions again in the first paragraph. This will be repeated in each section.

APA formatting: Remember that references must match citations.

Explain the concept of rarity assumption as it relates to the discounting of a certain type of information, and provide an example from your everyday life.

Research-Reflection-Synthesis

Answer the following questions and prompts in a 3-4 page narrative that demonstrates a personal understanding of the material. Provide detailed examples from your own experiences that illustrate the concepts; if possible, discuss how this information might be relevant to your future career; whenever possible, define concepts with your own words. Answer EACH of the six questions.

• EXPLAIN the concepts AND then give an example of an additive upward counterfactual, and of a subtractive downward counterfactual from your own life experiences.
• What is ONE function/purpose/use of counterfactual thinking? That is, why do we engage in it? SECONDLY, WHEN do we typically engage in it? (What circumstances trigger this kind of thinking?) Give ONE example from your own life.
• Explain the concept of rarity assumption as it relates to the discounting of a certain type of information, and provide an example from your everyday life.
• According to theories presented in our course, WHAT might be a cognitive explanation for why some people refuse to vaccinate their children (which is the objective/rational thing to do)? Briefly explain your answer. You must provide at LEAST ONE named theory/concept from our course to explain this.
• Explain the “certainty effect” in relation to Superfund environmental clean-up efforts? Is there an example or application of the “certainty effect” at work in your own life? Try to identify one.
• In 3 sentences or fewer, explain the difference between expected value and expected utility theories.
