Read the following Scenarios:
Scenario 1
You are running an outpatient treatment group for veterans who have recently been returned to the United States and been discharged from service. Their overseas work has kept them away from friends and family for more than one year. Their adjustment to civilian life has been complicated by substance related disorders and symptoms of PTSD. There are 10 adult males in the group between the ages of 25-40. The scenario provides a basic framework to create your case study and develop your paper. You will need to add details to give specific examples and respond to the required questions.
Scenario 2
You are running a court ordered psychoeducation group for people convicted of driving under the influence (drugs or alcohol). This is a closed group with 12 sessions. Each of the members was arrested with a blood alcohol content more than double the legal limit.
There are 10 members of the co-ed group. There are 5 men and 5 women between the ages of 21 – 60. The scenario provides a basic framework to create your case study and develop your paper. You will need to add details to give specific examples and respond to the required questions.
Scenario 3
You are running an outpatient treatment group for nurses who have been caught using drugs or alcohol during their shifts. They have been referred by their employer and are at risk for permanently losing their nursing license due to their use of drugs or alcohol on the job. There are 10 women in this group between the ages of 27 – 68. The scenario provides a basic framework to create your case study and develop your paper. You will need to add details to give specific examples and respond to the required questions.
Choose one of the above scenarios (A, B, or C). Following the specifics of your group choice, develop the case study of Sam and respond to the following questions. You will also need to identify three reliable references to support your paper.
Create Sam’s case study to include age, gender, culture, and the reason for Sam being in the group. You may want to include Sam’s family status (marriage or children), living environment, and employment status as well. Consider what drug(s) and/or alcohol has caused them to seek treatment and why. Sam will be described differently by each student, just be sure to add enough detail to your case study to justify the need for Sam to be a member of your selected group.
Identify three strengths and the challenges that you will face leading this group? How will you use your strengths and overcome your identified challenges to work effectively with Sam?
Examine four common problems (one problem in each stage) that Sam will surface in the initial, transition, working and final stages of your selected group? How will you address each of those issues to optimize Sam’s treatment?
Describe the process of assessing Sam’s progress throughout the group process?
The second and longer writing assignment for this class most closely typifies the traditional “Research paper” that students complete while finishing a degree in psychology. Each student will submit a paper of approximately 9 pages in length (double-spaced in American Psychological Association Publication Manual format) on a topic related to the course.
Note: Prior to completing the research, students will need to submit their paper topic to the instructor via email by the end of Module 2.
When developing your topics, identify a very specific area to research, as topics that are very broad do not allow the student ample time to discuss the issue in depth. If there is an area of
the field in which you are interested and are having difficulty developing a research paper topic, discuss the issue with your instructor.
It is expected that this research paper will constitute an original work on your part, using relevant citations from the professional literature, thoughtfully developing a thesis statement, and providing a logical conclusion. As such, this paper should be in such a form as to permit submission to a local, regional, or national psychological conference. If you have questions or concerns about this paper at any time during the course of the semester, consult with your instructor for guidance
Compare and contrast Hume’s empiricist skepticism with Kant’s transcendental idealism by focusing on the single issue of causality. Why does Hume reject real causality? How does Kant answer Hume’s skeptical view of causality? Do you find Kant’s response to Hume adequate? Why or why not?
The final project is a comparison of three theoretical perspectives you have learned in this course. You will examine a mental health disorder, fully identifying the symptoms of that mental health disorder, and a portrayal of a person who may suffer from that disorder. Then you will construct a treatment plan from each of the identified theoretical perspectives. This project is a culmination of the different theories and treatments you have read and studied in the text and is intended to show an application of the concepts to real-world problems. The paper must contain at least 750 words with at least three references. Follow APA style formatting with a 12-point Times New Roman font and double line spacing, a title page, and a reference page.
Please use the book for in text citations
Hooley J., Butcher, J., Nock, M., & Mineka, S. (2020). Abnormal Psychology (18th ed.). Pearson Higher Ed.
Discuss your observations about the foundational principles supporting this theory. Choose one or more of the identified principles and speak about how they do or don’t ‘connect’ or make ‘fit’ for you. (e.g. I appreciate that there are ‘patterns’ – or ways of responding or being in relationship that tend to repeat. I think people can get stuck and need therapy to help them get unstuck)
Discuss the psychopathology of the feminist theory – why people get sick – reflect and note what you think about that and feel free to disagree (e.g. I don’t believe that all our relationship and other problems can be traced back to childhood experiences as the psychodynamic theorists propose, I think a focus on the future makes more sense than a focus on the past, especially as I think about work with children….)
Discuss your thoughts about the therapeutic process from this perspective – including discussion of one or more elements of practice described in your text. (e.g. I don’t like the way a psychodynamic therapist ‘interprets’ everything like a complete expert – as if the client doesn’t know anything. As a counselor I hope to trust my clients to be partners as we work to make their life more the way they want it. APA format

Content requirements:
Watch the movie: Inside-Out
Take notes as you watch the movie regarding Riley’s emotions, memories, problem solving and language skills (this may require you watch it more than once if you haven’t already seen it).
Write a three (3) page or more paper (paper will include all three (3) parts) that utilizes information from Chapters 7-9. Please include the following bold items from your textbook (of course you can choose to use more):
Part I: What was the premise of the movie? Tell Riley’s story in terms of the following: What is Affect? What were Riley’s five emotions?
What were some of Riley’s memories? Were those memories Procedural, Declarative or Flashbulb? Explain What stage of development is Riley in? Would this event and the emotions it brings about have any effect on her development (Think Erikson)? If so, how? How are Riley’s memories connected to her thinking, motivation and emotions? How does Riley express her emotions? What does it look like on the outside? What are Riley’s problem-solving skills? How does she work through her experience of having to move to a new town? Does she take control of her emotions? What decisions does Riley make (good or bad)? Can or does Riley recognize the feelings of her parents? How has her moving affected the relationship with her parents? What is Language? How could Riley problem solve (use the language we use inside our heads) in order to be able to tell her parents what she is experiencing about her emotions and memories? Is Riley afraid she will forget her previous experiences? What does Cognition refer to? Does Riley have any Cognitive Maps? If so, describe one.Using the Behaviorist position of B. F. Skinner, how does Riley’s environment determine her speech and language use? What parts of Riley’s decisions are avoidance and/or acceptance? What is Stress? What demands has Riley’s situation placed on her? What defense mechanisms does Riley use to shield herself from the stress?
Part II: Once you have Riley’s story written, think of your own story. Choose an event of your own that includes all of the above (cognition, development, emotions, memories, problem solving and language skills). Tell your story using the same concepts from the textbook used for Riley’s story.
Part III: Now, think of a scenario within your intended career (if you don’t have one yet, choose something) that would incorporate cognition, development, emotions, memories problem solving and language skills. Explain this scenario in detail using the same concepts from the textbook used for Riley’s story.
Now, I know the questions for Riley’s story are not in any particular order. It was designed that way so you can organize the paper into what best suites your writing style. Please do not simply answer the questions but write the paper in paragraph form
Paper should be three (3) full pages or more in length. This does not include any cover sheet or reference page you add.
Paper should be typed in Times New Roman, 12 point font, double spaced.
Organize this paper just like you would organize a good essay: introduction, body paragraphs, and conclusion.
