For this assignment, you will create a 2–3 page paper that will identify the roles and responsibilities of human services professionals based on their unique strengths and attributes.

Provide your own analysis of the strengths and weaknesses of Recovery Model, how well it integrates into your personal and professional identity as a counselor, and whether or not you think it is a theory that resonates with you for future clinical practice.

Provide a brief review of the theory as part of your reaction/analysis.

Include information such as:

  • Nature of the person, including innate capacities or capabilities, and motivational constructs according to the theory (if applicable).
  • Nature of psychological distress or maladjustment (how do people develop mental illness) according to the theory.

  • Role and activity of the therapist, including:

– Major techniques utilized

– Diagnosis and appraisal techniques

– Evaluation of client progress in therapy

How might you respond/react to a client who presents with liability of emotions and fluctuates between idealizing you and devaluing you within the session? What DBT principles or skills fit with your style/approach and what other interventions or techniques would you want to apply?

Challenges of DBT

One of the challenges of DBT is being able to validate client experiences (acceptance) while also setting limits and holding the client accountable to make changes from maladaptive patterns. This can be especially challenging when we know the client has a history of severe trauma.

How do you balance support while also holding the client accountable for his/her behavior?
Demonstrate your understanding of the application of DBT principles and skills in your response.
How might you respond/react to a client who presents with liability of emotions and fluctuates between idealizing you and devaluing you within the session?
What DBT principles or skills fit with your style/approach and what other interventions or techniques would you want to apply?
Identify a client presenting with alcohol/substance use or a co-occurring disorder and identify potential goals and interventions for treatment using DBT.

Develop an alternative hypothesis and null hypothesis for each of the scenarios. Identify the variables and their attributes. Discuss the results you received whether you reject or fail to reject the null hypotheses and why.

Part 1: Use the “Alcohol and reaction time” data analysis set:

Run the appropriate correlation analysis for each of the following:
– Average units of alcohol with reaction time.
– Mood with reaction time.
– Mood with reaction time, controlling for average units of alcohol.
– Mood with gender.

Then, copy and paste the results into your assignment.  Then . . .
– Develop an alternative hypothesis and null hypothesis for each of the scenarios.
– Identify the variables and their attributes.
– Discuss the results you received whether you reject or fail to reject the null hypotheses and why.

Part 2: Use the “Computer Games” data analyses set:

– Check for normal distribution across hours played on computer games.
– Conduct an independent t-test.

Then copy and paste the results into your assignment.  Then
– Explain the importance of knowing whether or not the data has a normal distribution.
– Develop an alternative hypothesis and null hypothesis for the scenario.
– Identify the variables and their attributes.
– Discuss the results you received whether you reject or fail to reject the null hypotheses and why.

Part 3: Use the “Satisfaction with treatment” data analyses:

– Check for normal distribution at both time points.
– Conduct a related t-test.

Then copy and paste the results into your assignment.  Then
– Explain what the effect size is and why it is important.
– Develop an alternative hypothesis and null hypothesis for the scenario.
– Identify the variables and their attributes.
– Discuss the results you received whether you reject or fail to reject the null hypotheses and why.

Chose a famous person to use in your illustrative biography and described elements of your life and personality. Build on that foundation and connect that story to the theories we have studied in this class. Create an illustrative biography using your chosen person and the theories covered in this course.

Illustrative Biography

In Week 3 you chose a famous person to use in your illustrative biography and described elements of your life and personality. Build on that foundation and connect that story to the theories we have studied in this class.

As a reminder, the purpose of this project is to clearly and concisely create an illustrative biography using your chosen person and the theories covered in this course.

Focus on how the theoretical concepts apply to the one person you are trying to understand. Cite specific details from the biography to support your interpretations

Compare and contrast the characteristics of experimental and nonexperimental quantitative research. State the research question the researchers were trying to answer in the study. Identify the type of quantitative research design that was used in the assigned study.

Discuss and Critique a Quantitative Research Study [WLOs: 3, 4, 5] [CLOs: 2, 4]

Prior to beginning work on this discussion forum, read the instructor guidance, the quantitative section of Chapter 7 and all of Chapter 8 in the Creswell and Creswell text, the chapter by Meltzoff and Cooper titled Chapter 6: Research Designs and Threats to Internal Validity (Links to an external site.), and the article by Henrich et al. titled Most People Are Not WEIRD (Links to an external site.). Also review Standard 8 of the APA Ethical Principles for Psychologists and Code of Conduct (Links to an external site.) from last week.

Your instructor will post an announcement with the reference for the quantitative research study you will discuss and critique in this discussion. The study will be found in the UAGC Library. Refer to the Library resource How Do I Find An Article When I Have A Citation? (Links to an external site.) if you need help finding the article.

In your initial post, consider the following:

Compare and contrast the characteristics of experimental and nonexperimental quantitative research.
State the research question the researchers were trying to answer in the study.
Identify the type of quantitative research design that was used in the assigned study.
Evaluate whether the researchers’ conclusion follows logically from the evidence presented.
Identify threats to internal and external validity that might apply to how this study was conducted.
Determine whether validity threats were addressed by the researchers. If so, describe how this was done.
Summarize ethical considerations that were mentioned in the research report.
Assess what ethical considerations apply to the design of the study but that were not mentioned by the researchers.
Explain how you might do a study on this topic differently and why your approach would be more appropriate than the one used by the researchers.
Evaluate whether a quantitative approach would be useful for the research topic you chose in Week 1.
Describe the actions you would take to ensure that a quantitative study on your topic would be ethical.
Support your evaluation of the study with citations and references of the required readings and other peer-reviewed sources. Refer to the Scholarly, Peer-Reviewed, and Other Credible Sources (Links to an external site.) tip sheet to help determine which sources are appropriate.
